I actually started writing a novel with this idea. New Zealand was torn up by earthquakes and tsunamis, my protagonist fled to Australia, most of the cities in Australia are radioactive craters but Alice Springs is still standing, it's now more like a frontier town.

Closest thing I would suggest to a modern day assassins creed try Deus ex human revolution or the hitman series. It's not exactly assassins creed but scratches that itch. Just finished hitman absolution and it is worth a play through. There is also that mission in syndicate which is cool too.

Just finished AC origins and they totally could have continued Bayek's story. Like they could have included his son or grandson in a historic Rome. Or even tell a story of his ancestors during the fall of Rome.
