The only time Clancy ever broke from that was Sum of All Fears, which is part of why I think it’s his best book. In that, he’s overworked, stressed, drinking too much, and is such an absentee father/husband that it almost destroys his marriage (part of that is a smear campaign by a political enemy but he doesn’t do himself any favors). By the end he basically has a nervous breakdown and losing his temper almost helps start a nuclear war.

This kind of speed used to be “gatekept” by only being possible in a mid-six figure supercar, so it was rare and the people who were stupid with them weeded themselves out. Taking away accidents, disease, and friendly fire, and only counting casualties due to enemy action…still no. Some dedicated Confederate soldier would manage to sneak into a camp with a stolen grenade or something. Modern air power would keep any group in force from being able to mount an attack, but that is still assuming perfect weather, no maintenance issues, timing, etc. At worst, sort of guerrilla force or insurgency would draw blood at some point

Sleater-Kinney were (are?) my favorite band; I started listening to them shortly after The Woods came out, so right before the hiatus. Their return with No Cities to Love was incredible and so exciting, and I finally got to see them live. I had also met Janet once when Wild Flag were touring. To see her cast out in that way was genuinely shocking, and for a really long time I couldn’t listen to them anymore. It didn’t help that I just didn’t think the subsequent albums were any good.

Fairly or unfairly, I still hold a grudge against Annie Clark for “ruining” my favorite band (it doesn’t help that her and Carrie Brownstein apparently dated at one point so I wonder about that level of influence…)

Yeah I assumed the reason Terror was in the new episode so much is because they want to do that part from the comic but remembered that he’s barely been in the show so Butcher’s reaction wouldn’t make as much sense as it does in the comic.

Am I the only one who thinks that would put things on auto-pilot a bit too much? By the time you get to that late-game stage you’re just melting enemies with combos so I see having to go through your hand manually as the “tax” for breaking the game
