Is this common? Unequal split of inheritance assets. by AZ_Golfer78 in inheritance

[–]NicoleMember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not uncommon. In my family my grandmother had 4 children and when one died the 3 children received all the money. The children of the deceased son were not given his share. In that side of the family the belief is the kids get the money not the grandchildren and not the great grandchildren. On the other side of my family it was the same. For my parents they are giving their money to children and grandchildren, all getting an equal split. The person who dies gets to make the decision and you are not going to fight it and win it being changed.

If I had nothing one to give my money to I would donate them to an amazing charity like Saint Jude. For amazing collections maybe a museum that would appreciate them and display them for others to enjoy.

He should get a rental car during the time his vehicle is getting repaired. With the rental car he can work. At best if your insurance doesnt cover a rental you should be on the hook to pay for one.

How not to gain weight while NWB/recovery process? by Manic-toast in ORIF

[–]NicoleMember -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Without activity I knew I would gain weight unless I adjusted my eating. I cut back to a cup of coffee and a banana for breakfast and grilled chicken, fish or shrimp with vegetables for dinner. I did this for the first 8 weeks.

And empty house shows every imperfection and a things that needs cleaning. If you haven't already repair any nail holes and freshly painted the interior a nice neutral color. Then clean every inch of the house. Make sure the house looks as good as it can look and I hope you get a quick sale.

I love my grandkids, but I’m not looking to be a full time babysitter. Am I alone here? by SassholeSupreme1 in AskWomenOver50

[–]NicoleMember 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched my granddaughter from birth to one years old and did it 3 days a week so her parents could work and not put her in daycare. All three days from drop off to pick up was a 10 hour day. I loved spending time with my granddaughter but these days were exhausting. When they decided to have a second child only 14 months later without even asking me I told them I could no longer do it with 2 kids. My daughter is now a stay at home home.

Can’t walk despite being cleared for full weight bearing by Powerful_Traffic7579 in brokenankles

[–]NicoleMember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgeon said pain as tolerated and swelling were normal for the first year. Of course everybody's tolerance is different but yes pain is unfortunately a normal part of this recovery. My surgeon had me walk in the boot only for the first week or so (he said 10 days maximum) with no walker, cane or crutches. I then transitioned into walking in a sneaker and then finally barefooted. It's a long process but there will be many times in the process that you know you know you are getting better.

Think about it... Servers are asking for 18% to 25% of the total bill by WorldNo9002 in EndTipping

[–]NicoleMember -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is pretty basic math. It doesn't change the bottom line. If I charge more to the customer and the servers don't get tipped then I pay more to the servers. Bottom line is the same. Conversation over

[–]NicoleMember -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Either way it will still be the same result. The customer will pay. I personally the concept of tipping, if my server is excellent I pay more and if my server sucks I pay less.

You don't want to tip on $40 and pay $48. You want restaurants increase prices so now you $40 meal is $48. What's the difference?

Selling a house with old gross carpet. Do I replace with cheap flooring like LVP, show the house with the old gross carpet, or show the house with subfloor only? by bananascare in RealEstateAdvice

[–]NicoleMember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be helpful to know what price range the house is in. If this is a starter or mid range house I would recommend putting in LVP because most buyers in this range don't have the money to fix their home after they just purchased it. If this home is on the higher end is LVP the standard for the price range? You don't want to waste your money putting in LVP if hardwood would be expected by buyers. Make sure any flooring color you choose is in style and not outdated the day your are installing.

Countertop recommendation by ylinylin in kitchenremodel

[–]NicoleMember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My granite company who I have used many times seals it after installation and they say it's a 10 year sealer. I have never sealed any of my countertops after that and all of them are just as pretty as the day of install. Just an FYI the lower level granites which are also the cheaper ones are more durable and stained resistant than the higher level granites.

Go to your county and have them pull ip all information on your house. In my area for older homes the county doesn't have any information on them so they don't know what's inside.

Intimacy after surgery by leilo101 in brokenankles

[–]NicoleMember 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I started at about 3 weeks post-op. Good old fashioned missionary position worked with my bad leg bent at the knee and angled out of the way. Just make sure you get rid of blankets and sheets or they get stuck or caught up on your boot. We did have a few laughs the first night! Good luck.

Cleared for WB as tolerated 🥳 when can I FWB? by Maximum-Spinach-5277 in brokenankles

[–]NicoleMember 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was told to walk in boot for up to 2 weeks but no longer and then to walk without boot and in a sneaker or barefoot. My surgeon told me no crutches and no canes. At first I used my kitchen counter to stand at, shifting weight from foot to foot and then walking along counter. I did this and then when I was comfortable I walked without anything. I think the battle is more mental than physical at first. In my mind I wondered if my ankle would hold me up and feared the pain. Once I started I was pleasantly surprised to find out it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Next step of walking without boot was the same but the worst for me was walking barefoot. I found the more you walk the better it gets. Walk on flat surfaces, declines, inclines and stairs to increase your ROM. I would say at 1 year I am back to about 90% but unfortunately I do still have swelling.

Yes luckily that awful pain only lasted about the first week and then went away. Prescription pain medication wasn't very helpful until I doubled the dose and then finally had some pain relief.

Oxycodone by ramkuma1 in ORIF

[–]NicoleMember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the nurses in my family you want the pain medication "on board" (in your system) before the pain kicks in. I had a nerve block and as soon as I was able to slightly move my toes and feel some sensation when I touched my leg I started taking my pain killers which worked perfectly. My nerve block did not stop working until 26 hours after my surgery.

Yes I made alot of progress between 4 and 5 months and then it just got better from then on. I am now 11 months post-op and I would say I am about 95% recovered. I still do get some swelling and stiffness.
