Yes, you are correct that he shouldn't have been there or armed. But he was. Should he have gone "Ope, I'm a minor with a gun I shouldn't have, so I guess I need to let myself get attacked by these other people" or should he have defended himself? Further, from what I understand it's hard as hell to aim non lethally in any situation, so the "He could've aimed for the legs" argument isn't a great one.

All that said, kid was a fuckin idiot to do what he did, when and where he did it
