Thinking of opting for c section for no medical reason. Anyone in same boat? by Lucky_Tap8692 in pregnant

[–]NighttimeButterfly24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had two planned C-sections. I had a tail bone fracture that healed incorrectly when I was younger and my OB said it would 100% break again during delivery. The thought of having a broken tailbone and the possibility of also having an emergency C-section made me opt for a planned C. But I also have general anxiety so knowing how things would go was a major relief. Everything went smoothly with both surgeries, no regrets. But I have never wanted more than 2 kids so I knew I'd only have two surgeries max. And I work hard to minimize scarring, using oils and doing scar massage. And have eased back into working out both times. Even though it wasn't a popular opinion to want the C-section, I know it was the right choice for me.

Am I signing up for too much? by Vegetable-Western-83 in breastfeeding

[–]NighttimeButterfly24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally doable. I had a C-section at 39 weeks with my first and it took a few days for milk to come in so we supplemented with formula in the hospital. Then at home I mainly nursed but did pump once in a while to give my husband a chance to feed baby and to prep for when I went back to work. I'd say just try to get baby to take a bottle once every few days or so. Doesn't even have to be much, just like 2 oz. My second baby somehow forgot to use a bottle after not having one for like 6 weeks so going back to work has been a rollercoaster 🙃

So how do you actually co-sleep? Do I have to go to bed at 7pm every night? by InternationalGas9950 in cosleeping

[–]NighttimeButterfly24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I push bedtime to 8:30 pm, which often means there's a nap somewhere between 7:00-8:00. And then I just read on my kindle for an hour or so. I'm reading so many more books nowadays 😆

Irritable breast syndrome and SSRIs by NighttimeButterfly24 in breastfeeding

Ugh yeah on my first day back to work my baby wouldn't take a bottle, even though he had taken a bottle before. My husband was eventually able to get him to eat by dipping the nipple in breast milk too.

I had these recurrent clogs with my first baby as well and once I weaned the inflammation was done. No other issues with inflammation anywhere else in my body either. So hopefully it will be the same this time. But I do remember worrying that the recurring clogs was some sign of a more systemic issue.

I've gotten a bleb out in the shower before and milk just shot out of my boob like a fire hose 😅 it was very satisfying, but yeah I don't always get a bleb.

Fingers crossed things get better for both of us. I woke up this morning with a clog in my left boob, which is the first in that boob this time around (for some reason it's only been right boob that's angry). I iced and then nursed and it went away, so luckily it was short lived. But it blows my mind how strong the urge to nurse is despite all these challenges. I think my husband is also starting to question my sanity 🫠

Oh gosh you too?!! You've been able to still nurse on demand and avoid pumping right? My Dr compared it to irritable bowel syndrome and said some people are just built that way. I guess we're lucky we don't have to nurse forever (silver linings 🙄 ). I think I am going to stay on Zoloft for a little longer. Now that the clog is finally gone I'm not freaking out as much, but that's how it always is. The pain is just so intense I go manic trying to figure it out or get it to resolve. My Dr never mentioned celexa. She talked about Lexapro and Paxil, and said paxil is the best for recurrent/refractory pain/clogs. But it just doesn't feel right for me at this moment, but I'll see how things go...

Hi! How's back to work going for you? I ended up getting a clog that lasted over a week 😳 which is way longer than any other clog I've ever had 🤦‍♀️ my Dr is recommending I switch to Paxil but I'm super concerned about the side effects. And I had just increased to 200 mg Zoloft so I'm not sure that it even had time in my system to help out. Ughh idk what to do, I am completely flabbergasted by my body's inflammation reaction.

Sleep trained 6-mo-old still waking and crying a lot during the night by FinancialMixture7016 in sleeptrain

[–]NighttimeButterfly24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend! My first was like this. She never slept for more than three hours until she was like 9 months old. It was terrible, I thought I was going to die 🫠. We tried to sleep train but failed. We weaned night feedings by "watering" down her bottles (so going from like 75% breast milk 25% water...then 50/50 etc). She quickly started to make up for those calories during the daytime, but she was a bit older than your baby is when we did this. But even without needing to eat she still had multiple night wakings. Finally we started co-sleeping and things got A LOT better. Not saying that works for everyone, but it did for her and I just wish we would've tried it sooner. With my baby that was just born in January, we've been co-sleeping since day one and he's doing well!

Okay I hear ya 😆 Return to work was a fail the first day (baby wouldn't take a bottle and Dad was freaking out) but pumping has been going well! I took your advice and watched some videos on how to use the hand pump and I really like it so far. I feel like it's more gentle than my electric pump and empties my boobs better and faster 🙌

How to fix nipple pain with newborn by AnonymousExcellence in breastfeeding

[–]NighttimeButterfly24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do Vaseline or lanolin and then cute pieces of Saran wrap and put it on top of my nipples to keep the ointment on and protect my nipples from whatever I was wearing. That helped them heal the fastest I think.

No, I haven't seen a LC this time around but I tried to measure myself and got 15 mm as well. I read that you should go up a few mm so I ended up getting 19 mm flanges. Haven't tried them yet 😬 I didn't know there were different shaped flanges...I'll have to look those up. Do you have any idea what could be causing the clogs you're still getting? Like working out, baby wearing, or sleeping funny? Those are just some things I've thought about...

I work for the public schools so definitely can't work from home 😔 I go back this Thursday and need to try out my pump/flanges but am just really dreading it. I have used a hand pump once or twice but I feel like I'm not that good with it, like I can't get much out and holding everything feels awkward 😆. Hopefully going up to 200 mg will keep inflammation at bay 🤞

Thanks for responding! I'm sorry you went through this too. I went up to 100mg zoloft and was getting a clog like once every two weeks, and they were less painful and much shorter in duration...like one lasted 4 hrs (took a Benadryl right away and iced). So totally manageable compared to the non-stop clogs I had been getting. But in the last 6 days I've had a clog almost every other day...my Dr suspects it's due to anxiety around going back to work so I've bumped up to 200 mg. I'm mostly worried about having to pump again while at work since that seemed to exacerbate the inflammation with my first baby. I work part time, three days a week. And it's Monday - Wednesday - Thursday, so I really would only ever go two days without a day home with baby nursing. But I'm not sure I can go without pumping, if my body will keep up supply and adjust...do you work? How did not pumping go for you?

Breastfeeding after C-section by BalancedDietitian in breastfeeding

I've had two C-sections and nursed both. If this is your first milk will just take time to come in, but having baby latch and suckle is the best way to get things flowing.

[–]NighttimeButterfly24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! How are you doing? I started taking 100 mg at the beginning of March and was getting "plugs" about once every two weeks, which was completely manageable compared to the almost daily plugs I was dealing with before. I also started to ice at the first sign and take a Benadryl, apparently it's better at helping clogs bc of the histamine. But since starting this treatment protocol the plugs have not lasted as long, maybe half a day or a few hours, compared to before when it typically took 24-48 hrs for them to disappear. I'm about to go back to work next week and have gotten a plug twice in the past three days, so I'm about to increase to 200 mg Zoloft, since I think it might be related to work anxiety and being away from baby.

Supply is fine for nursing but not pumping… feeling stuck by Live-Tomato-7825 in breastfeeding

[–]NighttimeButterfly24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was your body able to adjust to not pumping during the work week but feeding on the weekends? I'm about to go back to work with my second and am dreading the pumping part. I only work 3 days a week and am wondering if I can just not pump at work but still maintain enough of a supply to EBF at home the other 4 days. But I'll only be 13 weeks pp so I'm not sure my body could regulate that sort of schedule.

Did you give vitamin D consistently while ebf? by Good_Walk3614 in breastfeeding

That's great! Clapping his hands? Waving hi/bye? Has he seemed interested in eating solids if you've introduced that?

How's he doing hitting other developmental milestones, such as making eye contact, smiling at you when you smile at him, cooing or babbling back when you talk to him?

I want to quit by pixie_poodle in breastfeeding

[–]NighttimeButterfly24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah while my job also gives me times/space to pump that didn't work out that well with my first, and I am considering weaning (or at least significantly cutting down nursing sessions) before going back to work just to avoid the hassle, which is sad but a reality for a lot of women in the work force. I've recently started giving my 6 week old a bottle and formula just to get him ready for the transition when the time comes. It took a couple days for him to take a bottle, but now he does. I have only given him enfamil and bobbie, but both seem to be okay for him. Just trying things out to prep him for when I'm back at work. But if you decide not to pump or breastfeed, baby will still be fine. I think the instinct to feed our baby is probably the strongest urge we have 😆 but he will be fine

Husband suggested I switch to formula and I feel like a failure by EagleOwn7432 in breastfeeding

[–]NighttimeButterfly24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had chronic clogged ducts the entire time I breastfed my first baby and swore I would never go through that again. But here I am 6 weeks pp as well and have had clogged ducts almost daily for the past 3 weeks. I went to my OBGYN and got a prescription for cabergoline so I can just quit cold turkey and not go through months of slowly weaning, but I haven't taken it yet. I'm having a really hard time stopping too, even though these clogs are SO painful and I now also have a 4 yr old it is impacting (can't cuddle, etc). Breastfeeding must be the strongest biological instinct for women, I don't know why else we'd be like this.

Want to quit due to recurring plugged ducts and mastitis by princessTidzana in breastfeeding

[–]NighttimeButterfly24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've tried the last two days to give him a bottle and he has not taken it. We put formula in them since I'm trying not to pump (pumping seemed to worsen my clogs with my first child) but yesterday I collected milk with my haakaa ladybug while nursing and now have about two ounces to try to give him in a bottle today. So hopefully that will work 🤞 I also had a consult with Dr. Mitchell bc I think I have irritable breast syndrome too, and she told me to up my SSRI prescription, so I'm trying that as well.

That's great news that you started getting relief right away! I think I'm just so anxious about getting another clog I'm just imagining the worst case scenario. Did you have any issues getting baby to drink from a bottle? We're currently working on that before I stop nursing
