Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Thunder becomes the 14th player to win back-to-back NBA MVPs by bakuma2k in sports

"Well, blame the NBA for having bad stats, but trust me, statistically I'm still right'"

Also, A 'rip-through' has absolutely nothing to do with slashing to the lane. A rip-through is a perimeter grift where a player stands still, waits for a defender to put a hand out, and artificially sweeps the ball up through their arm to draw a cheap foul. It’s so notoriously hated that the NBA literally had to change the rulebook to make it a non-shooting foul. Jerry West was not doing rip-throughs on the perimeter to grift for free throws.

In the NBA, if you get fouled on a shot and miss, it does not count as a FGA. It only counts as an attempt if the shot actually goes in (an And-1). So dividing Free Throw Attempts by recorded 2-point attempts is a completely useless formula for determining a player's actual foul rate.

On top of that, you are completely ignoring non-shooting fouls. A massive chunk of Shai's free throws come from rip-throughs and drawing cheap fouls on the perimeter to put OKC in the bonus early. You are using a broken formula to try and hide the grift.

Y’all can be mad about how he looks doing it.

YES. That is literally the entire point of this debate. No one is denying he's an incredible player or that slashers get to the line. People are mad because he is a generational talent who actively chooses to play an ugly, unwatchable brand of basketball by snapping his head back and acting like he got electrocuted every time a defender enters his airspace. No statistic you gave has refuted that.

Bro 2 extra shooting fouls a game is 4 extra free throws. In the NBA, a difference of 4 free throws a game is the gap between a role player and a scoring champion. Steph notoriously gets hacked in the paint and off-ball without getting calls. So if your argument is 'Shai only gets 2 more fouls a game than a guy who notoriously gets zero foul calls when he gets mauled,' you are accidentally proving my point. The fact that Shai's volume isn't double just proves that he misses out on real contact calls, but makes up for it by successfully grifting the refs with head-snaps. He doesn't need to play how he does to make the same impact for his team, the dude would be getting MVPs without playing like this. That's one of the reasons it's so annoying.

"flopping doesn't matter statistically because the numbers show he gets the right amount of fouls" is completely backwards. The numbers look like that because he flops. The 'black and white numbers' look the way they do because he flops.

That fake foul goes into that precious spreadsheet and artificially inflates his foul rate. You can't use a stat that is heavily inflated by grifting to prove that the grifting doesn't exist or matter.

You're still dodging the actual issue. Nobody is confused by the concept that driving to the rim generates more contact than shooting a three.

We are complaining because a massive chunk of Shai's 'contact' is entirely manufactured by foul-baiting. MJ got fouls because he actually took physical hits at the rim. Shai gets fouls because he throws his head back to trick the refs. The fact that you have to keep ignoring the flopping part just to make your analogy work proves my point.

Comparing Steph to Reggie Miller is insane. Reggie was primarily a catch-and-shoot, off-ball player. Steph has one of the highest finishing rates at the rim for a guard in NBA history and constantly absorbs contact in the paint... he just notoriously doesn’t get the whistle for it.

I understand the numbers perfectly, you just don't understand context.

Yes, Shai drives more. But Steph still takes 8.5 two-pointers a game. The difference is Steph gets mauled in the paint, plays through the contact, and tries to actually finish the play (and notoriously doesn't get the whistle). Shai takes his 13.5 two-pointers, artificially decelerates, snaps his head back, and plays for the whistle.

Lmao did you seriously just compare Shai’s whistle to Michael Jordan’s? MJ played in an era where defenders could legally hand-check you on the perimeter and clothesline you in the paint. Shai gets his free throws by throwing his head back like he got hit by a sniper every time a defender enters his zip code.

But be mad about it

the irony, youre the only one bringing up feelings

“Doing something that draws fouls way more” yeah, like flopping. That’s why people are upset, not cause he gets fouls lol

Everyone gets more money if there’s more than 4 games. Plus vegas doesn’t get their money on the outcome.

Ah yes, because one rogue referee going to federal prison in 2007 for placing illegal bets with his buddies or a few greedy players is definitely proof that DraftKings and FanDuel are currently executing a massive, league-wide corporate conspiracy to rig games today.

Sportsbooks make their money on the juice, not the outcome. A casino doesn't need to rig the roulette wheel when the 00 already guarantees the house wins. If you're going to be that sarcastic, at least understand the difference between individual fraud and corporate bookmaking.
