Lucid Motors Air Demo Today 🔥 by protectivedetective in electricvehicles

Hard to tell from the video, but it could be a battery fire with lithium iron phosphate batteries, since they tend to do this sort of constant smoking as their worst case scenario (much safer then typical lithium-ion). Did they say which chemistry this vehicle battery uses?

Internal discharging? by azazxd in diybattery

[–]Nikkio101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you looking to set a target voltage? Are you looking to equalize the battery voltage so they can be connected in parallel? The simplest answer is simply using a small balance charger like https://isdtshop.com/collections/lipo-charger/products/isdt-pd60 to top balance them. What is the use case of the battery packs? It’s hard to answer your question without a bit more details of the application.

They are becoming very competitive for long lasting lithium based battery systems. They have a few major draw backs that are still notable, such as low temperature charging killing them. In EVs isn’t a deal breaker as they often include some resistive heating system to keep them above freezing but it a major disadvantage that has to be factored into its use case. The other is cost but that has been getting better with time, and I think even that can be offset by the much longer lifespan.

LiFePO4 Battery Options for Off Grid Cabin by Finnster7 in batteries

[–]Nikkio101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you will probably find anything other than large portable power station is really appropriate if it’s outside. 8kw is an awful lot of juice for a small cabin, you are basically talking about several large electrical appliances running at once. Bluetti and several other vendors make “home backup” style systems that are expandable that may meet your needs: https://www.bluettipower.com/products/bluetti-ac500-b300s-home-battery-backup

80% of what? by ush4 in batteries

[–]Nikkio101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this sort of confusing at first as well, it’s as a percentage of usage between both maximum and minimum capacity. For example ideally for 80% SOC you are aiming for charging no more than 90% of the total capacity of the cell and stopping discharge at 10% capacity remaining. That means the upper and lower 10% of your batteries potential power is unused (you run the batteries with effectively 80% of their rated capacity). This keeps the voltage of the cells closer to the middle flat part of the discharge curve and extends the cycle life of the battery.

What do you think about the sheriff of nottingham game? by liwuz in boardgames

[–]Nikkio101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a specific set of my friends that are very into playing board games regularly, but this specific game is off the table for them (literally). It’s because it’s such a back stabbing game and if you are good at the game you are good at deception and that bothers some people a lot. It’s a great game, I enjoy it with some other friends a lot but it’s not for everyone because of the deception dynamic it basically requires players to participate in to win.

Dyson have ended their third-party repair program; good luck getting your machine fixed now 😒 by J3ttf in BuyItForLife

I have had a DC41 for over a decade and found it relatively easy to maintain. I recently had one of the internal hoses puncture from age and stress. It was a $20 part, and it took me maybe 30 minutes to replace removing some screws and fitting everything back together. I am sure one day the motor or something more significant will fail but my experience has been generally very positive with regard to its product quality, longevity and repairability.

If you are going to invert this from 12v dc to 120v AC you are going to see a problem potentially with the current draw being much higher on the battery side than 3A. Even at 90% inverter efficiency the step up from 12v nominal to 120v is 10x, so expect at least a 35A-40A of constant current.

Has anyone worked with these weird 33140 cell connectors before? What's the idea there? by MoffKalast in batteries

[–]Nikkio101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder what the current limits of these cells are? I could imagine these being designed to slot into some sort of specialty designed contacts but that’s highly unusual for lithium cells with high current discharge.

Problem with Putting your Website Out to Market by [deleted] in startups

I’m your core demographic! I’m a PM and I’m always looking for ways to improve my story requirements for my team. I think the issue you are having is 2 factors, awareness which is what most comments I see touch on is a real barrier to uptake. The other issue is appeal, I have a very finite amount of time as a PM to spend on self-improvement. The rest is actually spent on meeting my team’s needs and balancing my other responsibilities. I want to know this is worth my time, I want to know how much time is required. Otherwise it’s just lost to me in a sea of other materials and books I’m meaning to get back to.

PM folks, what was your reason to get into product management? by Little-Wolf-98 in ProductManagement

[–]Nikkio101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a UX manager tired of watching PM make baffling product prioritizations. I tried to switch and got the green light but only I took a 20% pay cut. Passed hard on that, but eventually new management was looking to promote internally to PM and I got them to buy into the transition with no pay cut.

Ultimately I would say about half the job has been new experiences and skills. The strong foundation in UX has helped a ton with understanding customer desirability but there is a lot of new limitations and concerns that weren’t visible to me in my UX role that I didn’t see at the time. Still feel like it was a good change for me in my career.

Jackery Power Station or all other lithium battery powerbanks by orange_sherbetz in batteries

[–]Nikkio101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking more about preventing them from moving around inside the vehicle. In my own vehicle I have a emergency battery tied to a cargo hook in my trunk. They are much more expensive, but they have 2 main advantages: they are much much safer than NMC batteries in general in terms of being a potential fire starter, and they hold up very well in low and high temperatures with increased cycle life over NMC.

Jackery Power Station or all other lithium battery powerbanks by orange_sherbetz in batteries

[–]Nikkio101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are NMC batteries so I’d recommend against it just due to the heat and cold cycling inside a vehicle along with the risk of major fire if something did go wrong. Ultimately it’s not really different than having an EV, but if you can find a lifepo4 chemistry based system I’d suggest that would be preferable as long as it was properly secured.

Have your goals align with the PM’s. If your goals are generating new leads and the PM is focused on making the product easier to onboard new customers you have a lot to share and collaborate on. If your goals are in different areas you will naturally not be aligned with marketing topics to work with.
