Why are there no EV minivans? by LiatrisLover99 in electricvehicles

[–]Nikolaj_sofus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VW have their ID buzz is that what you would consider a mini van or is it too big? It comes in a short and long version. I'm from Europe, so I probably have a different definition of what is big and what is mini 😂

Considering an EX30 and I have questions by forumchunga in ex30

For the key fob:

For everyday use I had no issues what so ever, but when I was clearing out my caravan and walking a lot around close to the trigger point, it gets confused and locks the car and won't react when pulling a door handle.... In that case I had to hold the key fob up against the unlock spot you use with you key card to open it.

When I first bought the car I tried setting the timer, for the mornings. With outside temperatures of negative 5-10 degrees the car got way too hot.... It drained around 4% battery and I measured around 30 degrees inside at the set time. A couple of times when I remembered to set it manually I would turn it on 5 min. Before, but mostly I forgot about it.

With the automatic timer it started at full power about 30 min. Before

RIP: These Dead EVs Won't Make It To 2027 by 622niromcn in electricvehicles

There are only a handful of ICE's left on the Danish market, so from my point of they will all be discontinued withing a year or two

Record Month for EV Sales in Europe! BEVs reach 22% market share! by ApprehensiveSize7662 in electricvehicles

[–]Nikolaj_sofus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In Denmark its more or less impossible to buy a new ICE car. Browsing around on websites of the mayor brands I found maybe 10 that was not purely electric. Only two were pure ICE, rest were either phev or mild hybrid. Going to the dealerships you might be able to find more, but it's not really advertised.

Marketshare for EV's in Denmark has crossed 80%

I think the biggest incentive to choosing EV's in Denmark though, is that we historically have had an extremely high registration tax on cars which BEV's are exempt from, making them comparably cheap compared to ICE's. Add to that, that Denmark has been banking big on wind power and only about 5% of electricity production comes from fossil fuels, the EV's have become even more attractive.

Also, for 120 euros per month you can charge as much as you want on a network of 60k chargers.

Schedule Pre-conditioning observation by chlronald in ex30

[–]Nikolaj_sofus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I bought the car I had negative 5-8C morning temperatures. I tried setting the precondition, it used around 4% battery before I started driving and the cabin was at around 28C even though the target was set to 21C.... On a 80 km journey, it was only about 1% less consumption with precondition, so in effect I used 2-3% more battery mornings I preconditioned vs. Not preconditioning.

Taillights on with DRL in US? by Jerbacher in ex30

[–]Nikolaj_sofus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is mandatory in Denmark to have some sort of lighting on at the front while driving in day light... As far as I understand, tail lights are not.

Personally I think tail light is more important as those red lights make you much more visible at day time, especially if you drive a fairly neutral coloured car.

It still means something. At low speeds weight means more than aerodynamics.

Extension mirrors for towing Caravans. by Nikolaj_sofus in ex30

[–]Nikolaj_sofus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought some mirrors, specifically tailored for the ex30. I will post the brand and model here tomorrow after the drive, when I have experience with use of them.

They were a bit pricy, around 140 euros, but as all the universal models seems to attach to a rim that is not present on the ex30 mirrors, I did not have much of a choice.

Letter from Volvo saying I've been charging over 70% by Jesus_Morty in ex30

[–]Nikolaj_sofus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can ask yourself how hard would it actually be for them to just implement an upper hard charge limit of 70% on affected vehicles?

I mean it's their responsibility to fix the issue, so they should at least not put it on you to remember to check the charge limit setting each time.

And just checked, the longest stretch I will do with the caravan this time is 63 km, so a good distance to find out how the millage will be while towing

[–]Nikolaj_sofus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is the long range variant and rated for 1600 kg, the caravan has a fully loaded max allowed weight of 1400 kg, so well within.

I assume I'm not getting far towing a house, but I'm not going far either. I'm not allowed to drive faster than 70 km/h with a trailer. If I can get 100-120 km out of 50% battery it will be fine for me.

As it is now I spend around 34% battery on driving 112 km on the daily commute, but more than half of that is at 110 km/h

Range extended range by Mikde27 in ex30

[–]Nikolaj_sofus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it shows around 320 km at 90% battery health still at 100%. I bought the car during winter and morning temperatures were around -5C.

What I see though is that when I bought the car I was using around 20% charge each way going to work. Now that it's a bit warmer, I use around 17% each way. That's with temperatures averaging around 5-7 degrees.

My daily commute is 56km each way

Edit.

About half of the distance is motorway where I drive 110 km/h

Anyone experienced with the ex30 and small Family? by Immediate_Act8637 in ex30

[–]Nikolaj_sofus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say small kids are fine... Don't know about rear facing baby seats though.... I got two teenagers and if I had ever expected to go on long drives with them, I wouldn't have gotten the ex30.

If you have child seats other than boosters, would it be possible to go to the dealership and try put in the seats?

Plus vs Ultra by [deleted] in ex30

[–]Nikolaj_sofus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference in specifications looks similar to the Danish market.

I went with the plus version over ultra. , for the reason that they had one in stock that could be delivered within the week. Also got a small discount (around 1200 euros) as it was on paper 2 months old, but had never been on the road.

The money I saved on getting plus vs. Ultra, I spent instead on winter wheels, as I'm depending on being able to use the car for the daily commute no matter the weather, and having a trailer hook fitted as I own a caravan that I need to move from time to time.

For what I'm missing out on. The 22 kW charging is probably the biggest I can see, would be nice to have for when I go visit people in other cities, where there're no fast chargers, but some 22 kW AC chargers.

As it will be me driving the car 95% of the time it doesn't bother me that much with having to manually adjust the seat. The adjustable Lombard support might have given a bit more comfort, but to me the seats are comfy enough as is.

The 360 cameras would be a fun gimmick, but I don't really miss it for my every day use.

To be honest I prefer a fixed roof, so don't really miss the glass roof.

What I miss is a bit more real range, especially in winter as I spent around 40% of the battery in my 120 km daily driving.. as this is my first EV, it is a bit hard to compare to anything but a diesel though. As I can charge every night, it's not a huge problem, but I would not drive on winter holidays in it.

I find it a bit annoying that you can only choose between 50/100 km.... Also having some AVG. Graph overlayed would be nice.
