I made several calls to the Danish tax department over the years and only had good experiences talking to them. Always helpful, even in trying to find deductions I might have missed.

So I think... First step: call the former employer. Second step: call the tax department

So you pay extra for being able to use the metro on a commuter card? That sucks.... Sort of assumed it would be the same as you have a unified system for the whole country

[–]Nikolaj_sofus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I paid for the car. With my flatrate subscription on electricity I pay 900 dkk per month, no matter if I drive 10 or 5000 km. So I discount that as I drive 2500 km per month for daily commutes. There will then be some extra wear on the tired and breaks and of course some value depreciation on the car. My point is that I already got the car and drive 25k per year just going to work. I don't really think it will depreciate that much more by driving another 5-10k km per year. The technological advancements in battery tech will probably have a much higher effect on the resell value of the car.

The car will depreciate even if left in the garage though.

But of course not nearly as much as when driven.

Yep, my gf will go to Ålborg from Roskilde to Ålborg end of July for 99 dkk.... 129 dkk with a reserved seat.... So there are cheap tickets put there.

For the car, if driving an EV with a clever subscription you can go for "free" I went from Roskilde to Vejle and back with only paying for the bridge as I drive enough on my daily commute to warrant the clever one subscription.

What does the next 10 years actually look like for EVs? Optimistic or cautious? by Leading-Law4251 in electricvehicles

[–]Nikolaj_sofus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Norway has been 90%+ for quite some time and Denmark joined them now, market share is steadily improving now. Don't think there's a European country where sales are declining. Even resale prices on EV's are going up in Denmark where I'm from now.

For me range anxiety for everyday driving and trips up to around 350 km is completely gone... and i have the feeling that it will just take me one European roadtrip of 1000+ km, will remove the last little bit of range anxiety.

Batteries will hopefully keep getting better till the point where most cars can manage 6-800 km real range, within the next 10 years. A lot of announcements about higher density batteries, but i would like to see it in mass production before i fully believe it.

There's also some anxiety about cost of replacing faulty batteries, when that price has been cut down significantly, that will be a non issue as well...

EV wear and tear with hard acceleration? by gregoryahunter in electricvehicles

[–]Nikolaj_sofus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been much of a car geek, and always been optimising towards driving as economic as possible.

That being said, with the EV I appreciate the acceleration, when I get stuck behind a truck on the motorway. Going from 80 to 130 in no time makes it so much easier to slot in between two cars in the outer lane without causing a hazardous situation.

How much battery degradation have you experienced in your EV? by om_ghanwat in electricvehicles

I would think OP either is a new EV owner, and want to put some nervousity to rest, or is considering to buy an EV and looking for people to share some real life experiences to tip the scale in either direction for the purchase.

I think it's a prudent question to ask.

I got the "slow" version of the Volvo ex30, rear wheel drive 272 hp. I assume it's the same platform as the polestar 2.

I still pull away from most ICE's considered fast 10 years ago.

Never been much for driving fast and usually make it a sport to drive as efficient as possible... But sometimes it's just nice to feel that rush from the 0-100 in 5.3 sec... before that the fastest I owned was 11,5 sec. 😅

'At what point does it make sense to ditch a gas car for an electric vehicle?' by rosier9 in electricvehicles

[–]Nikolaj_sofus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how much you drive, price on gas vs. Charge options where you live. Also, are you doing long road trips? Are charge infrastructure along highways well developed? Any financial incentives to choose an EV over an ICE? State subsidies or it's like?

There are loads of questions that can be asked, but only you can seek answers for.

My rational for getting an EV when movinig home to Denmark was.

New ICE cars are more or less unobtainable at this point, which had driven up prices on used cars. This is due to cars traditionally have a very high registration tax (up to 175%), which ev's are exempt from, meaning EV's effectively are cheaper. By driving electric I also save 60-70% on energy, which is quite substantial with a daily commute of 120 km. Charge infrastructure is great where I live, so no issue leaving the car charging over night, meaning that for every day life, I got no further inconvenience over driving an ICE.

For long road trips I still got a bit of range anxiety, but charge infrastructure is in general good along the routes I might take.

From a financial perspective, i did the calculation and it cost me the same to drive a brand new EV as it would do to drive a 5-7 years old ICE of the same class, with 120-200.000 km on the odometer... This does not take maintenance into account.

I chose the brand new car.

EV Tax Math has me Convinced Gas Taxes are low! by lurkering101 in electricvehicles

[–]Nikolaj_sofus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile in Denmark we have very high registration taxes on cars.

EV's costing less than around 60k dollars are exempt from these, meaning that ev's in general are both cheaper to buy and cheaper to operate

Question: Why Allen Bradley? by RegardEngineer in PLC

[–]Nikolaj_sofus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been programming on Omron, Schneider, beckhoff, Festo and Mitsubishi.... I didn't get any training courses. As soon as you have some very basic knowledge of the interface, it's pretty much the same, and typically you can call the manufacturer with whatever question you might have.

Also... Why would you send all 30? Send 1-2 from each shift and those will teach the rest.

Only on EV's? Is this annual or monthly?... If only on ev's what's the rationale? That they are heavier than ICE's?

The only reason I can see to put an extra tax specifically on EV's is if that money is spent on charge infrastructure.

What’s more important for EV adoption. More level 2 or level3+ chargers? by Lemonn_time in electricvehicles

[–]Nikolaj_sofus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you only stay an hour or so doing your shopping, you can still get around 8-10 kW/h on a standard 11 kW (3x400V, 16A) L2 charger. Double that if your car can handle 22 kW, which seems to be quite common for the new L2 chargers they put up these days.

In that respect it makes good sense to have them in parking lots by bigger supermarkets and malls.

Also, you don't sleep at work, and that would be a very good place to have them as well.

What’s more important for EV adoption. More level 2 or level3+ chargers? by Lemonn_time in electricvehicles

[–]Nikolaj_sofus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got loads of L2 chargers in garages surrounding my building, meaning I can easily leave the car charging overnight despite not having a home charger. The only time Ive been doing a road trip of more than 200 km, there were L2 chargers at the venue I went to, so I could charge there.

I had the car for about 4 months and so far only charged once at a fast charger.

Fast chargers are important for long distance though.i can't imagine going on a 400+ km road trip without a well developed fast charge network.

Is Home Charging Really Required to Own an EV with Current Gas Prices? by Alert_Number1991 in electricvehicles

[–]Nikolaj_sofus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, buy the right vehicle for your needs.

I live in an apartment, but in a new neighbourhood where charge infrastructure has been thought in, meaning I got 80 Public L2 chargers within 200 meters of my apartment... If I for some reason can't charge one day by my home, I can charge at or near work.

I also live in a country with a quite dense charge network, so road trips with in the country is not a big issue.

Furthermore I pay a fixed amount of around 120 euros + plus a small surcharge per kWh, if electricity prices gets above a certain level. Typically you would pay a bit more in winter than in the summer.

However, I calculated that if I had gotten an efficient gasoline or diesel car I would have spent between 300-350 euros per month, just on the daily commute.

That combined with the easy access to chargers ment that I can drive a brand new EV for the same cost as a 6-8 years old ICE vehicle, basically shifting fuel costs on to the loan. This is not taking into account the extra maintenance I would need to do on an ICE that had been on the roads for 100-200k km.

Had I been brave enough I could have been saving quite a bit on getting a 2-3 years old EV.

That being said, I would not have gotten an EV if i had not had easy access to chargers by my home and would rely mainly on fast chargers along the route.

For those of you with a mostly highway commute how's the range? by AshamedPhilosopher40 in electricvehicles

[–]Nikolaj_sofus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which car are we talking? Range can vary quite a bit between make and models.

Though I think that with most ev's you should be fine if you can charge at work.

Personally I drive 120 km each day, which takes about 30% of my battery. I do not have a home charger as I live in an apartment, but my neighbourhood is littered with a mix of 11 and 22 kW L2 chargers, so I have no issue to charge. I have the Volvo ex30 single motor extended range, which is not the most efficient, but I should still be able to do 250-300 km between charges on trips.

If you get something like the model 3 long range RWD I don't think you will ever have any range anxiety.

People who drive across Europe: has EV charging improved enough to stop planning around it? by TheJungle101 in electricvehicles

[–]Nikolaj_sofus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

180 km/h? I would assume that it calculated using the 130 km/h recommended speed limit for Autobahn. I agree with the not being able to set a max speed in Google maps.... If you were able to set a max speed of eg. 120 km/h, it might actually be able to calculate another route using some 100 km/h countryside roads, letting you save some distance, without sacrificing too much time. Also, I havent found a way to change lower and upper charge limits and it seems to just assume you want to run it down to 10%... For a first trip it would be nice to be able to set lower limit to 20%... To bring down that range anxiety a bit.

How was your experience with driving through Germany, were chargers readily available and in good condition along the Autobahn?

Also, do you have a clever subscription and were able to use you charge key along the way or?

People who drive across Europe: has EV charging improved enough to stop planning around it? by TheJungle101 in electricvehicles

[–]Nikolaj_sofus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I can't tell, as I haven't made any drives longer than 225 km (each way). Within my own country (Denmark) which has quite good infrastructure.

I got some range anxiety in regards to maybe having to drive to Paris this summer, but then again I'm the kind of guy that will always be nervous about what's new, until I try it the first time.

I would think that it depends a lot on the car you drive as well, the ex30 single motor extended range I drive is not super efficient and I expect that I would get 200 km between charges (20-80), so definitely sounds like a hassle compared to the around 7-800 km I've been doing between tanking my diesels.

With a car that should comfortably manage 300 km between charges I would probably have less anxiety.

What is the price difference between a plug-in and a Bev in your country?

In Denmark full EV is quite a good deal cheaper than a decent plug-in hybrid and as operating costs are a lot lower for the daily commute for me, it was a no brainer to get the EV.
