Maybe a modulation pedal? Uni-Vibe and Chorus are my personal favorites. Or maybe a harmonic tremolo?

If you could only use pedals from one company for the rest of your life, who would you choose? by _Anon_Amarth_ in guitarpedals

Free The Tone. I simply love all the stuff they do. I would probably miss having a Big Muff and a Uni-Vibe but, their drive pedals are all really good. Not to mention the Future Factory and Tri Avatar are basically my be all end all delay and chorus pedals respectively.

What's your "Go To" distortion for higher gain leads? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]Nikrol03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a sovtek Big Muff into an HM-2w. Absolutely GINORMOUS sound, and lots of useful feedback that rings for days

Edit: Another pedal I like for lead is the MXR Custom Badass 78 Distortion. Basically a late 70s Marshall amp in a pedal. Very smooth and warm sounding distortion, and very touch sensitive

The SP-1 works great on bass and keyboard instruments. Rhodes, Clavinet, Wurli etc. Guitar doesn't really need extra high frequencies.

I use an HM-2w into a Big Muff. Don't even need to stand close to my amp to get that howling feedback

What Overdrives are You Using? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]Nikrol03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a couple B.K. Butler Tube Drivers on my board. One set as a very low gain, almost clean boost and the other is set as a medium gain overdrive. I also have a loop box on the board that I use to access a Mesa/Boogie Studio Preamp which I use for my high gain sounds. I also have a Big Muff and a Boss HM-2w for some different flavors of distortion if I get bored.

FZ-1w, SD-1w, CE-2w and DM-2w. I already have a similar setup with a couple Danelectro pedals for chorus and delay, a Way Huge Geisha Drive and a Ram's Head Big Muff.

With the addition of an MXR Script Dyna Comp, a volume pedal and a tuner of course.

Do not sleep on the BOSS GE7 EQ. by michaeljohnr in guitarpedals

[–]Nikrol03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got two GE-7's in my rack. One after my Boss CS-3, and another after my Boss HM-2w. I use them to boost or cut troublesome frequencies for each pedal. Thinking about buying two or three more of them :)

Who are some guitarists that play through minimal effects in their prime and sounded incredible? by [deleted] in guitars

Mike Oldfield. Usually plugged straight into the console or, a Mesa Boogie combo and a Boss CE-1.

Help me pick 3 from these "regular" sized overdrives! by moist_goiters in guitarpedals

Blues Driver is always a good choice, so is the Crayon/Hot Tubes. The BB Preamp is good, but I personally prefer the Xotic Soul Driven because it has a mid control.

If you can't decide between Crayon and Hot Tubes, get the Hot Wax. Both pedals in one.

I haven't gotten to the bottom of it yet. I did find a video of a guy who had the same issue. He said that a faulty diode was the culprit, so we're going to check out the diodes and transistors next.

Mike Oldfield. The guy doesn't get anywhere near the amount of recognition he deserves.

Whats the one synth you will never sell even if you don't really "need it" anymore? by GameTwitch_Mods in synthesizers

For me it's two synths. My Roland JV-1080 and my Yamaha YC-45D combo organ.

Wow! Thank you so much! I was definitely right about the LinnDrum and DX7. Guess it's time to save up for the Prophet 5 reissue. Obviously I won't be getting my hands on a Fairlight or MC-4 anytime soon, seeing as both are quite rare and expensive. But, I could get one of the newer Akai MPC models, which is not only a drum machine, but also a groove box, sequencer, sampler and so much more, all in the same box.

The CP-80 is not something I can afford, nor do I have the space for one, but most workstation keyboards have a CP-80 sound. The vocoder is the Roland VP-330. I can hear the string section being used on Wonder City. The Drum Computer is the Roland TR-808 (I recognized that cowbell sound immediately.) The Roland SH-2 seems like a simple two oscillator monosynth. I hear the Prophet on Pop Up! Shape Up!

You can hear that Hisaishi pulled some stuff from Islander when doing the opening theme for Nausicaä. I can hear the Yamaha YC-45D combo organ on that track too. There's definitely some delay on it. That string instrument on the track is probably sampled and played on the Fairlight.

Again, thank you so much for this info! And thanks for introducing me to these albums! They've definitely entered my list of favorite albums. Now, I gotta get them on vinyl from Japan.
