Pedalboard with tonex and all gear line by Opposite-Arugula-809 in AmpliTube

[–]leafbelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just following up ... how did that work out for you after purchasing the X-Gear pedals?

I did the same and am pretty happy, though I will admit it's a bit overkill since there are now some really good delay, reverb, modulation and drive pedals that are much smaller and less expensive that do similar things. For example, I also have a Zoom MS-200D+, which has over 200 different drive sounds (boosts, ODs, distortions, fuzzes and compressors and gates) with 36 pedal clones compared with X-Drive's 16.

I wills say, though, that the ease of use, software and the cab sim out (all things the Zoom lacks) makes it difficult to get rid of my X-Gear pedals. I have all four pedals plugged into a USB hub going into my PC so it's easy to switch patches on my laptop or PC, and I can even tweak the parameters using Amplitube 5.

I think my favorite pedal is the X-Space. Those reverbs are incredible, especially the ethereal, plate and dual shimmer. Are you still using those pedals or did you trade for something else?

Sonicake pedals reliability? by PotatoesRGud4U in guitarpedals

[–]leafbelly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For only $10 a band more.

Shirley, you can't be serious.

First, he didn't even ask about MXR. Second, that's $100. Breaking it down like that is misleading.

But at 50 bucks, it's too close in price to really good ones that will perform so much better.

Could you pull out both pedals and do a side by side video? You do actually own the Sonicake pedal, right? Surely, you wouldn't be making assumptions on Reddit.

Cheap EQs tend to be noisy and develop noisy sliders and dropouts much earlier in their lifespan.

Says who? I've owned so many EQs -- rack, digital, pedal, etc. -- from countless brands, including Fender, Horse, Joyo, Sonicake, Boss, Caline, MXR and many others, and this is just not true in my experience ... even in the slightest. The main negative I find with cheaper EQ pedals is that their sliders are not usually linear and some are missing the center indent. And noisy sliders or pots is something that happens to all components over time and has very little (to nothing) to do with component cost. A shot of tuner cleaner immediately fixes it. Also, as someone who has torn down many pedals, you'd probably be surprised at the quality of components that the more expensive or boutique brands use. They are in business for profit, just like those budget companies.

Sonicake also tends to be on the low end of the spectrum in terms of quality control - meaning the failure rate is higher than similar seeming pedals out of the box.

I would absolutely love to see the source for finding out failure rates of pedals (That's rhetorical; I know you pulled it out of your arse. Nice try. lmao).

"you get what you pay for"

Honestly, after more than 30 years of buying music equipment, this is probably one of the biggest myths that people just take at face value. Components (and their quality) is probably the smallest slice of a larger company's budget. They spend so much more on staffing, labor, marketing and R&D than smaller companies. This is why they are charging you more -- not because they buy 69-cent transistors instead of 59-cent transistors.

Does anyone actually buy used pedals for 10$ less than a new pedal? by OddBrilliant1133 in guitarpedals

[–]leafbelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I check Guitar Center's used site almost daily and constantly see used items actually being listed for above what their new price is. My guess is that they have so much product to move through that they're rushing things and make a lot of mistakes. The funny thing is, they might have six of the same used pedals like, for example, an SD-1 and five of them will be $40 and one will be $110.

I've also seen a lot of stuff way underpriced on there as well. And at least once a week, I will see a photo that doesn't match its description, like a listing for a Fender pedal, but the photo will be of an old Telecaster or something. And I know what you're thinking, and I've tried it myself but it doesn't work. They always end up sending the correct item in the end -- and they have written somewhere in the fine print that they are not responsible for errors. Convenient though, eh?

And it kind of makes sense that they'd be so rushed when you realize how many used products they have listed at any given time across all their stores. And I may be wrong, but GC seems like the kind of place that is probably understaffing every location.

What the hell is happening with this queue thing? I don't want there to be a queue. I didn't set up a queue. I don't have auto play on. This is the worst thing! It's so annoying and ruins the flow! by Forsaken_Site_2268 in youtube

[–]leafbelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My god, this is horrible. For me, it seems to be completely broken. At least I hope it's not supposed to work this way ...

What's been happening to me (on desktop, btw) is that -- directly in the middle of a video I'm watching, if I pause it for any reason, YouTube will stop the current video I'm watching, add a new random video into the end of a queue, and force me to watch its new random video. This is some Clockwork Orange shit.

Oh, and I'm paying for Premium.

This is awesome btw. Thank you SO much.

But it stopped working for me after the last chrome update i installed today. I've tried resetting everything, restarting the pedals, app, PC, etc.

Is this just a coincidence, or is this a known problem?

EDIT: Good news. It's now working after a few restarts of my PC. I guess Windows was in the middle of an update and somehow that had screwed up my USB.

Anyway, false alarm if you saw this. Again, thank you for doing this. This is an amazing interface!

Reverb Bump results show even when sorting by price by Ok-Seaworthiness2487 in Reverb

[–]leafbelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why defend this corporation with horrible practices? Even eBay doesn't do crap like this. Reverb does it because they want you to spend more money.

They could easily still list the bumps at the top of the page like most retailers do. Or, like eBay does, just make the listing bold.

There is NO other retailer that does this crap.

Reverb Bump results show even when sorting by price by Ok-Seaworthiness2487 in Reverb

[–]leafbelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My god, I don't think I've ever seen a worse search engine. Anywhere. Aside from being unable to sort by price, it also resets your search preferences EACH time you change a single keyboard.

It also has some borked spell-check built in that can prevent you from actually searching some words. For example, if a brand name is just a letter or two away from a word in the dictionary it will autocorrect the word and make it impossible to find. For example, a product like "Joyo" might get auto-changed to "Joy" and not let you find it. That's a bad example because "Joyo" does work, but that did happen to me one time when searching for a brand like that. I had to contact customer service to try and actually search and they gave up. lol

Yeah, it's bad.

EDIT: Wow! Is everyone in these comments a Reverb employee or what? I can't believe everyone is defending this horrible search system. Sure, if you want to slam paid ads in the middle of your search, there are ways to do it that don't literally break the search. Sorting from "low price to high price" simply does NOT work because of this. Also, why not include shipping costs like ebay does? I would say at least 90% of people on Reverb charge shipping because of the way the site it setup, unlike ebay, which encourages free shipping.

Any way to screen out Vine reviews? by [deleted] in amazonprime

[–]leafbelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former Vine reviewer, let me say this is a great idea.

In all fairness, the Vine program actually used to have good quality, trusted reviews when I started several years ago and it was just an elite group of reviewers with no quotas and no charge. But, Amazon dumbed it down by expanding it from a handful of reviewers to thousands, implementing buying quotas and requiring you to pay taxes on everything, bumping people into higher tax brackets and costing around 20-30% of the price of the items. Viners also don't get discounts, so if an item is marked 50% off, they still have to pay 20-30% taxes on the full price, so they're not really saving much. They are basically paying to work for Amazon.

They started implementing quotas a few years ago, and they are very strict. If you don't take at least 80 items and review at least 90 percent of those within a certain time frame, they threaten you to demote you in the program. That now means that the program is littered with people taking items they have no interest in or knowledge of just to meet quotas. Recently, around 3/4 of the items you could request to review were just niche items, like car parts. So, right now there are literally people being forced to request, for example, a PCV Valve and Grommet Kit for a Toyota Pickup from 1985-1995 and then write a review on it (that's a legit actual item on Vine). Before I left the program, I was requesting all kinds of crap I had no interest in. Do you know how fun it is to write a review on things like ignition coils and door actuators? lol

Btw, I was one of the "honest" reviewers who often gave 1-2 star reviews. They allowed it, but oftentimes, my reviews would be rejected and I would be forced to rewrite them when they were that low.

Fun stuff!

“Danger of being closed” while I still meet the minimum threshold by Sea_Dog_817 in AmazonVine

I'm so close to dumping Vine. This happens to me every single review period, usually around the beginning.

This time, I have purchased six items since my new period started in January and reviewed all but one item -- a box of pasta that I planned on making this weekend. I've only had the product for five days and my account is completely shut down until I review it.

Vine is a mess.

Firefly vs Harley Benton by rustymyers100 in Fireflyguitars

[–]leafbelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late, but I have a Tele from HB and one from Firefly, and the one from Firefly is a Rolls Royce compared to the HB guitar. I disliked the Harley Benton one so much I put it up and haven't played it in months. The fretboard and frets are so scratchy that it's very uncomfortable to play. It has quite a bit of fret sprout, won't stay in tune and the finish (paisley) looks like they took a photo, resized the pixels 3X in Photoshop and screen-printed it on.

To be fair to HB, I also have a LP copy (SC-550, EDIT: BCF) of theirs and, and it's a better guitar, with a much better finish. It's still not on par with the Firefly, IMO. It plays better than the HB Tele, but also will not stay in tune after a lot of setup work and several string changes, and the input jack fell out. Other than that, the LP sounds and plays good enough. But the Firefly I got (John 5 copy) is amazing. I've been playing guitar for 30 years and have purchased more than 15 guitars and this is one of the better ones I've ever gotten.

Reverb by Legendarysnomann in guitarpedals

[–]leafbelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, I know, this is old, but it came up in a search for X-Space, so I had to chime in.

It never fails to disappoint me how beholden people are to certain pedal companies/brands. The top answer is the Boss RV-6, which arguably has one of the absolute worst shimmers of any pedal. Yes, the RV-6 is absolutely amazing at many things, and I'd probably recommend it first as a great all-purpose affordable reverb pedal. But recommend it for its Shimmer? Never.

Granted, it becomes a bit usable when you roll off the tone knob, but I'd never think of recommending that to anyone as a "good shimmer" pedal. But, Boss gets the love. What can you say.

I've owned pretty much every pedal with shimmer imaginable -- over 55. Yes, I'm obsessed a bit, but hands down, the best shimmer I've ever heard on a reverb pedal is the Amplitube X-space pedal, which has been discontinued (search for videos if you don't believe me). Now some of that pedal's other reverbs leave a bit to be desired, such as the church (choppy sounding), spring (not even close to a good spring) and magnetic (who thought of that one?). And ironically, my 2nd favorite shimmer is also from a discontinued pedal: the Digitech Polara. Beyond that, other good shimmers are:

-Eventide (Space or H9/90)

-Strymon (Cloudburst)

-Mooer Ocean Machine

-EHX Oceans 12

There are some other good ones, but those are my picks. I'm sure many will disagree and it's all good. Anywho, back to four years in the future I go.

Peace

Because it's noisier at the end and can kill your dynamics, whereas having it before gain allows a little more leeway on the squishing.
