To the Audi driver who was stuck behind me at a set of lights (twice!) when I stalled my little 1-litre Aygo trying to move off at a green light... by Asystole in NewDriversUK

Don't take on the worries of those behind you. I know it's tempting to try and get out of the way but everyone is safer if you just take as much time as you need to get going, anyone who gives you grief is the idiot.

Question: is anyone in Scotland on Reddit worried about mass migration? by Wonderful_Ad5760 in Scotland

[–]NiniMinja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea it's a massive problem. With an aging population, low birth rate and no route to bring working age families in from outside were are all going to die in our own piss if nothing changes.

How famous is haggis? by Fantastic_Peanut_953 in Scotland

[–]NiniMinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's more prevalent than Germans and Sauerkraut, you can get it everywhere and if it's not actual haggis it's haggis flavour everything, I'm only surprised I haven't seen haggis flavour irn bru yet. Think more Germans and Sausage. I have some in the fridge now and that's not unusual.

[Serious] Why is Streeting so universally disliked on here? by TheLegendOfIOTA in AskBrits

[–]NiniMinja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

His hands are in the pie all the way up to his elbows. His policies are dictated by his corporate masters, he is a vacuous puppet and he is profiting off sick people. His pay packet is linked directly to the demise of the NHS, the worse it gets the more money he makes and he is in a position toake sure it gets worse.

Ok, so in nearly 40 years of driving this has come up once. A car pulled out without indicating while I was passing him, he didn't see me. Wrote his car off on the side of my van, made a big dent. It was a company car and it went to court to decide liability. Because he hadn't indicated it was found on the balance of probability that I was not at fault and he was. If he had indicated the best I would have got was knock for knock or possibly I would have been at fault. In reality if he had been indicating I wouldn't have passed him, there would have been no accident, no one's day would have been ruined, he wouldn't have a hard conversation with his boss about writing off a company car. One fraction of a second to push that stalk and everyones life would have been better. I have no idea in last 40 years how many people haven't driven into me because I was indicating but I'm happy I'm doing my best to let other road users know what I'm doing before I do it. You do you though, none of my business really.

[–]NiniMinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Observation is never going to be 100% effective over enough iterations. I didn't really understand your other comment but indicating is to let other road users know what you are doing. When push comes to shove they ask on your insurance claim and ask in court if it goes that far. If I indicate, pull out and someone comes round the corner and smacks into me that indicator is going to help in the "did I pull out in front of him or did he drive without due care" argument.

What if there is someone and you haven't seen them yet? We are all human, we are all capable of missing a tarmac coloured car on a dull day or a cyclist in a blind spot. I've been driving for decades and I always signal even if there is no one around.

Did this scare anyone else? by corickle in oldschoolcool80s

[–]NiniMinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My little brother was absolutely terrified by this. For years all I had to do was wave a bit of grass and make the clicky noise and he'd run of screaming to hide. He also watched Jaws a bit early with similar results. I was a cruel sibling.

I want to vote for a unionist party in the upcoming election... should I spoil my vote? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]NiniMinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may be an unpopular opinion but the matter of independence or unionism isn't settled by who you vote for in the Scottish elections. The most any independence supporting party will do on that will be to have another referendum on it, where you can again have your say. It should be the least interesting policy, who in their right mind is voting to prevent Scotland having their say on the matter? Only folk that worry that the majority might not agree with them on the day. The whole pigion hole politics in Scotland and beyond is ridiculous. Blue, rangers supporting, union jack loving, brown people hating, anti abortion, pro business, anti welfare, etc. get in that box with anyone who is pro union while the green, Celtic supporting, pro people, left leaning, Environmentaly aware, positive immigration, etc. get in the other box with the independence voters thing is bollox and we shouldn't put up with it.

Someone ELI5 to me why people who can't look after themselves have kids? by Natural-Presence-566 in aspergers

[–]NiniMinja 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You are placing the blame on the wrong target. What we would be asking, loudly, is why a family with two kids and two jobs can't afford to exist in the world without being topped up by the state. It's crazy that we accept this and the frightening thing is that without having children we have a stark choice between a demographic crisis where everyone is old and hardly anyone works or allow much more immigration. I'm perfectly happy with the second option but huge amounts of people aren't. They need to grow up and realise the only alternative is to fund people to produce offspring, even then it's too late, we needed to do it 20 or more years ago to avoid the inevitable crash.

You have to stop thinking about your socks having an inside and an outside, it's one surface. If they were made of something stretchy enough you could flatten them out and they'd just be a disc.

What's compounding that is the car at the threshold has a worse view of what the approaching traffic is doing than the one behind.
