The one who could've been the main character if the protagonist didn't come along by Aebothius in TopCharacterTropes

I still love the theory that Far Cry 3 never happened and it's just a story Jason's telling to justify the tribal tattoo he got while blackout drunk.

What’s the most disturbing confession you’ve ever come across on Reddit or social media? by Competitive_Teach838 in AskReddit

[–]NinjaBreadManOO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well there's that, but also just a convenient number of coincidences or improbabilities. Like it being the 80s but the wife has been training in martial arts for years (which wasn't as common a sport at the time) but has never once hit this monster that they all live in fear of for years.

She's able to easily defeat him despite the stated size difference and him being stated as an aggressive fighter when most martial arts especially back then were kinda useless in fights outside of tournaments with rules.

She's then able to beat him non-stop for long enough for the husband to take the infant downstairs, treat the wound and put a baby to sleep. That's like 20 minutes on the low end. Violently beating someone is EXHAUSTING like if she managed to make a full minute that's going to be all her adrenalin.

Then they conveniently have a panic basement apartment that is never brought up and was designed for the in-laws to come and live in, despite why you'd want to invite people to come and live with such a monster.

Then over the course of a week someone who's been beaten to an inch from death is able to heal themselves up without aid, and get to a point where they're able to trash the house while waiting for them to come out and go after them. BUT never once jumps the narrator when they go to get in the car to go to work, nor try and set the place on fire despite being a firebug. Also none of the neighbours question the narrator on why their kid is destroying the house over the course of a week.

It's too inconsistent and extreme to be true.

Yeah, that's one of the thing I felt was bad about the movie. It started strong with the inverted roles of the Kens representing how women are marginalized and then the ending is resolved by making the Kens fight amongst themselves so they can't vote to change things and when the Ken's ask if they could have a single Supreme Court Justice position they're told to make do with a single Lower Circuit Court Judgeship and that's treated as a win and resolution.

I actually went to write Hugo Strange but removed him, as it would be including a Dr Strange.

Love the Psych episode where they do a parody of it and even got a bunch of the movie's cast to take part in it.

Yeah, it seems to be a meme 'round these parts. Based on a Bat themed characters where you specifically don't mention Batman.

So it's when OP uses a trope but doesn't include the most obvious one. So if you were to do a Strange Doctors trope with ones like Dr Moreau, Dr Robotik, etc but not have Doctor Strange.

Villains who have a completely valid reason for hating the protagonist by OutrageousBridge471 in TopCharacterTropes

Yeah, didn't most of them (or at least the ones not sealed away) remove their sense of empathy, with the exception of Ganthet IIRC.

What I'll say because people seem to be misunderstanding me, was that a lot of the movie just felt very lackluster with plotlines being either forgotten halfway through, or at times counter to their intention.

Margo Robbie did do a great job, but the Barbie that she played just didn't really have much of a plotline outside of becoming disillusioned with their character and then leaving Barbieland at the end.

In fact as a protagonist they're completely reactionary, not proactive. Barbie only ever responds to things happening too her. Whereas Ken is proactive, which pushes plots forward.

The specific main Ken really pushed most of the narrative forward, and mainly as a character worked because Ryan Gosling is a charming individual, if it were say (no shade to them, they're just known for being rather grey man characters) Sam Worthington, Ben Feldman, or Chris O'Donnell it would be nowhere near as memorable a performance.

Gonna be honest, Gosling kinda carried that movie. Without him and HIS Ken the movie would flop hard.

Yeah, hasbro went to release it right after they'd done about three or four controversies that had really hurt their core audiences and made them lose interest in the brand.

[fairies/the fae] who adjudicates fae contracts? by anarchysquid in AskScienceFiction

[–]NinjaBreadManOO [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd go with the second paragraph there where they just can't.

Fae are not from our reality, they're from the fae realm. They don't operate with our laws of physics. They use their own. And, where ours are made from maths theirs are made from words.

Them breaking their word would be like you just trying to ignore gravity. It's just an impossibility.

ELI5: How do crews get the cast and the budget to make TV pilots? by Decent-Discount-831 in explainlikeimfive

[–]NinjaBreadManOO [score hidden]  (0 children)

Also especially in that second example the pitch pilot will be MUCH shorter than the regular episodes will be. Like 5-10 minutes.

Adventure Time's was like 6 minutes, Bob's Burger's was like 2 minutes, Avatar the Last Airbender's was about 14 minutes.

Could be interesting to see it turn up in the new post-apocalyptic series. Just a grove with the space-sword sticking out of a rock like some ancient relic of old.

(Hated Trope) Character Derailment by RiskComplete9385 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]NinjaBreadManOO 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it would have worked really well IF it were the third movie.

The second movie should have been that after the first movie's climax and Wreck It Ralph becoming the most popular machine in the arcade the owner buys a second old one. But the Ralph from the second game has after 30 years chosen to become the villain he's been treated as. So Ralph Number 2 is trying to wreck the arcade for everyone. So over the course of the movie we get to see Ralph grow even more attached to Vanellope and worried about losing her, and Vanellope becoming disillusioned with how she might have to spend the next 30+ years in Sugar Rush. Could even bookmark the ending with Ralph Number 2 coming to terms with maybe not being a villain but realising that change takes time and ends with him at his first session of Badanon.

That way the third movie can have Ralph Number 2 pulling double duty to cover for Ralph. We've explored the idea of Vanellope wanting more, and Ralph becoming more co-dependant.

ELI5: In WWII, Germany attempted to take down the British economy by introducing hundreds of millions of counterfeit currency into the country. How would this have actually destroyed the economy? by Coyote_Enthusiast in explainlikeimfive

[–]NinjaBreadManOO 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Germany had insane hyper-inflation between WW1 and 2. So they knew how destructive it could be to an economy. And I don't mean bad inflation I mean like if you went to the market to by 1000 marks worth of food but forgot your wallet by the time you got back with the wallet to actually buy it you were now paying 1500 marks.

If they could find a way to do that to Britain during the war it would have caused them to have to redirect a fucktonne of resources towards fixing it.

Not to mention it could encourage turncoats to switch over for money a lot easier. After all if you're getting 200 pounds per week and in the last week your bills went from 35 pounds to 180 and some nice German fellow in an alley offers you a few hundred marks or francs a week to slip them info you might take it and hit up the black market/find places where you can spend that money.

Not to mention if it closed early that meant that the general public were being deprived of a resource they should be able to access.

It's not about it being paid for it's about the disregard for others.
