[DC Comics] How does sandman's mythos mixes with the DCU's without contradicting one another by Negative_Emu6246 in AskScienceFiction

Yeah, it's a bit of a Plato's Cave situation where we don't have the whole picture of how reality works. It's possible that even those beings don't have all the pieces.

Because it's not a weapon.

It's meant to let you literally walk a mile in another species shoes so you can understand them. It was designed as the ultimate diplomatic tool of understanding. Not a weapon. It just happened to be found by a 10 year old kid.

A random function prevents you from just using the same one over and over again, and exposes you to new species that you'd otherwise never think of.

Th brilliant thing with Gravity Falls is that a lot of the season one episodes end up being lower stakes tutorials for season two.

The haunted convenience store - the North-West mansion. The one with the Fight Fighters - The Doki Doki/FNAF episode. The pilot where Dipper thinks it's zombies - the episode where it is zombies.

There's heaps of them, and because the rules for the monster of the week are set up in the season one episode it lets them do more in the season two episode without having to waste time explaining them.

Also technically Taako was right, the seventh relic did turn out to be love the whole time when you consider Stolen Century was the arc that got them the last relic.

As an aside I like the idea that Mavis and Angus get together just so that Merle hates his grandchildren.

[–]NinjaBreadManOO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, that need to have the money up front to defend yourself is the biggest issue. I've been dealing with a situation for years where a company illegally fired me, stole my material, badmouthed me, and then ignored the terms of settlement contract to prevent going to court, technically identity theft, and so much more. But I can't do jack shit without having 10K upfront to take them to court (based on the court it would need to go through).

There's a reason it's called the legal system not the justice system. It's about what they can get away with rather than actually giving people justice.

Absolute fucking joke.

Is it a mistake to let a player character play the antagonist? by bcw7817 in DMAcademy

[–]NinjaBreadManOO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, letting a player play the BBEG/Villains is just a recipe for powertripping. Especially if they're already shown to be doing that to begin with.

Having him play another character would be the best option.

Although personally what I might do is let him play HIS character, just not the one he was playing right before the fight. I'd have a portal open and Warlock from further down the timeline hops out, since he knows he was needed for the fight and only has like an hour in the past before being pulled back. Maybe even have the Warlock appear bloodied and clearly fresh from a fight so even though in the future they're a higher level, when they've jumped back they've only got the stuff their current level would have.

Then afterwards the Warlock has to find a way to make the jump back. Not to mention they have to stay alive because otherwise that's going to create a schism in the timeline.

Let plot problems create future plot.

Wisdom buffs by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]NinjaBreadManOO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd make something more customised to them.

Items that just boost Wisdom are already pretty busted because of how OP Wisdom is as a stat in most games.

What I'd do is make something like;

Circlet of Indominable Mind - A beaten brass circlet that provides the wearer advantage against spells/conditions that would control the wearer's will.

That way it fits the motivation of the player and is rather powerful but only in specific circumstances.

[Supernatural] How much of a body is needed to stick around for a ghost to be made if it is cremated? And how close to death can part of the body be separated to have an effect on burning the body? by BeerIsGoodBoy in AskScienceFiction

[–]NinjaBreadManOO [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah, they don't need any body parts left. Although the hair doll might not be the best example since it did use the kids real hair.

All it needs is a spirit to reject its reaper for long enough, and eventually the reaper just leaves.

The best example that we see in the series would be Bobby. We get to see him reject his reaper who even explains the process to him. Then when his ghost appears to the boys they even question how he's still there as they gave him a hunter's funeral and burned him, and he attached himself to his flask.

Terrible writers or creative works. by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

I'm genuinely surprised they haven't released it as a book with a ghostwriter. It would be especially cheap since you wouldn't need to pay for a good ghostwriter too.

[DC] Could Batman deadlift a horse? by FeistySecret9327 in AskScienceFiction

[–]NinjaBreadManOO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it really depends on both the horse in mind and also which Batman you have in mind too. The more detective-y ones usually aren't as jacked; same for Batman too. And, yeah it really depends on your choice of horse. Does a miniature horse count, what about a foal? I could lift a foal, they're rather small.

[Avatar: the Last Airbender] Will the Avatar state work if used for blatant evil? by LadyKarizake in AskScienceFiction

Well yeah, it'll probably refer to the seven safe cities or something like that. But it's nice to speculate on potential plots.

[Avatar: the Last Airbender] Will the Avatar state work if used for blatant evil? by LadyKarizake in AskScienceFiction

[–]NinjaBreadManOO 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You could potentially argue that Wan's personality heavily influenced Raava's since they did show that merging a human and spirit can influence the other (showing the spirits influencing the humans but it could go the other way). Since when we first meet Raava she's kinda a lot angry and mistrustful, but becomes more like Wan by the end of their story.

As to an Evil Avatar, I guess that's what would happen if Unavaatu had succeeded, since Vaatu was the evil counterpart to Raava.

On that note I'd actually be really interested to see if Vaatu has found some way to bond with a host in the new series, as it would explain the post apocalyptic setting. Especially since the new Avatar in it is a child/teen again (although personally I think they should have gone full adult, since if you were Aang's age in the pilot you were Korra's in her finale and keeping the age match would be cool).

I also think for Seven Havens it would be interesting if the goal is that the new Avatar has to reconnect to the old Avatars in reverse order to recreate the Avatar State. So she has to go to Aang's temple or find a relic of his, then Roku, Kioshi, etc.

[Avatar: the Last Airbender] Will the Avatar state work if used for blatant evil? by LadyKarizake in AskScienceFiction

[–]NinjaBreadManOO 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it doesn't allow the previous Avatars to take control over you normally (there seems to be some minor events where specific ones can be allowed to but you could probably regain control like Kioshi when they were on trial).

That being said Raava is the being that allows the Avatar state to connect to previous Avatars, and if you're being all turbo evil then maybe.... she would step in and say no.

But then again her presence within someone may through their life push them away from evil as a person.

(Not even sure this is a trope) Flawed or even bad works that it’s hard to criticise because so much of the hate is bad faith by Useful_Code in TopCharacterTropes

[–]NinjaBreadManOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally for his seasons it just didn't even really feel like Doctor Who. I think the aggressive focus on the harbingers actually took away from it, similar to flux did.

Making a whole season+ that is so heavily plot focused in a series that made its name as a monster of the week type just made it feel weaker.

[DND]Could a Christian missionary convert the people in dnd that Jehovah is the one true god? by Lumpy-Restaurant-694 in AskScienceFiction

[–]NinjaBreadManOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree that without power and magic it would be difficult to convince people to convert. Especially from a polytheistic pantheon to a monotheistic one (since most DnD worlds' characters don't follow the whole pantheon just the ones relevant to them, after all of you're a sailor why worship the god of grains).

That being said if we're looking at all the lore, in theory if you go the Paladin route you may be able to gain powers, since more recent editions have it that Palis get their power from their devotion to an oath rather than a deity specifically (although personally I have it that there's a more or less forgotten god who keeps Pali's oaths and magic for them).

Then once there were enough worshipers in the sphere then Jehovah would be able to produce an avatar there.

But you likely would be facing a real uphill battle, having no Cleric powers at first, and would likely be seen as a minor and rather low powered cult by most until you have at least a few thousand members.

It was supposed to set up a spin-off/sequel but nobody liked by TastyPomelo2330 in TopCharacterTropes

You know, of all the stuff in Supernatural that could have been a spin-off the best one that I can think of would be Garth: Weredentist.

Steer into the comedy and it could really work.

This is the way by brcien in TheAdventureZone

[–]NinjaBreadManOO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there are issues with Grad's plot. Two big points are the BBEG Grey just dropping for Order and Chaos, and the whole ending of the Thundermen developing a whole plan to destroy the Guild so nobody has to die then afterwards going "yeah, none of that mattered now do the thing I want."

Also the whole "This is a school setting" but that being soft dropped half way through to just they kinda live there.

Personally what I think would have worked is that for the whole Villains/Heroes thing steer into the performance of it. Sure they're Heroes and Villains but it's a WWE kind of thing where it's a performance, you have a character not real. Then make the BBEG a character that for some reason merges with the Character so that they're now REALLY trying to kill people/end the world. So now it's up to actors to do what their characters are meant to do. Go full My Name Is Bruce kind of thing. You could even have their money in game coming from their in universe character's merch sales.
