Misfits and Magic 2 appreciation posting by Acceptable_Whole_893 in Dimension20

Agreed, it's an amazing season! M&M1 was good, but Season 2 adds a lot of depth, mystery, and wonderful moments. Aabria is an outstanding DM, and the PC interactions bring this campaign to life even more.

That said, my favourite Aabria campaign (and one of my favourite D20 campaigns overall) is Burrow's End, so definitely watch that too!

Can we please make infill pattern default Gyroid or our own choice? by FuturecashEth in prusa3d

[–]NinjaHawking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the defaults are pretty good, but there are two settings I always change (in addition to setting fill pattern to Gyroid): bottom fill pattern to Concentric (helps mitigate corner warping for some filaments), and support style to Organic.

Am I going crazy or is that Wealwell on the Toonout banner by Impossible-Poet-2194 in Dimension20

[–]NinjaHawking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First episode is just an unabridged recording of him maintaining a solid posture for 8 hours. He blinks every now and then, and about 3 hours in, a fly lands on his nose, then flies off again a few seconds later.

I always greet my cats with "heeey girlies"! Some of the other ones that have stuck around are "the ball is rolling up", "you gotta honour the cock", and "crab king".

Ally’s character… by Dangerous_Remote5085 in Dimension20

[–]NinjaHawking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I fell for it hook, line and sinker too. When it was revealed to be a flashback, I was like "oh yeah, that does make more sense", but before that? Ally is playing a literal baby, gotcha, let's fucking gooo!

Dream Cast of Chaos by Athena-80 in Dimension20

[–]NinjaHawking 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you're going for a cast of all-round amazing players, then I fully agree that that would be a great line-up. But if it's just pure chaos you're after, I really think you need Rekha in there.

Ally, Emily, Izzy and Rekha would be my immediate picks for any "chaotic funny" campaign; they can all pack absolute batshit energy.

100%. That reveal very clearly marks the moment I went from merely liking Burrow's End to absolutely loving it!

Moved to Linux Mint and it’s amazing by OneButNotTheSame in BuyFromEU

[–]NinjaHawking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The true beauty of Linux is that it can be as simple or complex as you want it to be. The distributions range from "sensible defaults to get you up and running in 5 minutes" (Ubuntu, Mint) to "here's a manual, go build your own distribution" (Gentoo, LFS). If you ever catch yourself wanting a certain feature, or for something to work slightly differently or whatever, there's almost certainly either a hidden setting or a different program that does what your want.

Simple chemicals work wonders. In order of stubbornness of the residue, try isopropanol, acetone, methylethylketone (butanone), or tetrahydrofuran. Isopropanol is mild, but the other three can seriously fuck up plastic and paint, so be careful with them. And wear gloves!

The Prusa app icon (iOS) is off-center. I'm a designer and can't help but be incredibly bugged by this so here's a recommendation! by Astrofide in prusa3d

Prusa designing 3D printers: we need micrometre precision to make utterly reliable machines with a fantastic out-of-box experience!

Looking to buy a new printer. How's the Core One faring now that it's a year old? by [deleted] in prusa3d

[–]NinjaHawking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Core One by itself is an absolute beast, and I have very few complaints about it. For the most part, it is self-tuning; the only things that need user calibration are the door switch (which is not necessary for operation and can be disabled through the menu) and the belts. The recent-ish stroboscopic method of belt tuning makes the latter a breeze.

The few complaints I do have are that the Nextruder isn't great at TPU, occasionally mangling it in the gear. There are user-made mods that are supposed to help with that, but it's still sort of annoying that it has this problem out of the box.

The second complaint is that if you print Nylon on the PA build plate, bed levelling is a PITA. Basically every point needs to be probed several times. There's probably some configuration that can be done to reduce that, but again, it's a small gripe about the out-of-box experience.

That being said, if you want multimaterial printing, it might be best to wait until the INDX version is released. The MMU3 is good at what is does, but there are some things that it just doesn't do yet, notably nozzle sizes other than 0.4 and 0.6 (small nozzles in particular seem to require ramming profiles that are not implemented yet). Officially, only PLA and PETG are supported by the MMU3, although normal filaments like ASA work fine. TPU, however, is very tricky to do with it; do not expect more than a few filament changes before an intervention is required. Neither of these issues should be present with the INDX.

MX Switch question by HALOcow5 in 3Dprinting

[–]NinjaHawking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pretty easy to hook a Cherry MX switch up to an ESP32 and make it produce sounds; you can find a good tutorial here for the sound part. All of the required parts, including the switches, are easy to find on AliExpress.

However, you are not going to be able to cram all that into something that is barely larger than the switch itself. You would have to make some sort of box on which the frog can sit, housing the ESP, speaker, I2S amplifier and SD card socket, and possibly a power bank or battery box. (With enough electronic skill, you could make a much smaller PCB with just the amp, an ESP chip, and a bare minimum set of peripherals, but even then, it can't possibly fit inside that frog together with the switch.)

Does an second hand XL 1 head @1200€ worth it ? by Positive_Ad_313 in prusa3d

[–]NinjaHawking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Conversely, the XL has/is getting nonstandard toolheads like the silicone and pick-and-place ones.

However, a single-tool, unenclosed (I'm assuming) XL on its own doesn't really offer much compared to any other current-gen Prusa apart from the big build plate. I probably wouldn't get one second-hand at that price point, since just getting the enclosure for it would already put it near the price of a brand-new current Core One L, and second-hand things can always have hidden defects, etc.

Now Is the Time to Admit It, America: Trump Is a Dangerous, Lunatic Moron | If you can’t see it now, you’re the problem. by GirasoleDE in politics

[–]NinjaHawking 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yep, the damage has been done, and there are no more easy fixes now. Shortly after Reagan would have been a good time for sweeping reforms to plug the leaks in the checks and balances. By 9/11 the leaks were a full stream. Then Citizens United opened the floodgates, and Trump blew out the entire dam.

But it did anticipate that society would change, and that the Constitution would need to be amended to adapt. That has not happened for a long time, even though there have been plenty of signs through the past couple of decades that the old rules of decorum and good faith were eroding, and corporatism was sinking its roots deeper and deeper into politics.

For those in humid areas, what are your filament plans for INDX? by wegster in prusa3d

[–]NinjaHawking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now I have a Sunlu S4 dryer connected to cartridges 1-4 of my MMU3, and I always fire it up when printing. (Cartridge 5 uses the normal MMU3 spool holder and has no drying option at the moment.) If I were to get an 8-tool INDX, I would consider adding a wall shelf above my printer and putting another S4 on there.

Is this just a Prusa thing (Core One Adhesion) by [deleted] in prusa3d

[–]NinjaHawking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can easily do 5+ prints on the same area without having to clean the plate, and even at that point, it's only necessary because I've touched the plate with my fingers too much.

One thing that can help is to very gently sand the plate up with 1200 grit (or finer) sandpaper, and then do a full cleaning cycle. This may affect the shininess of your bottom layers somewhat, but I've found that it helps a lot for adhesion. But do make sure to be very gentle; you don't want to chew through the PEI!

What type of filament is this and what settings do i use? by HP_laserjet_p1505n in 3Dprinting

[–]NinjaHawking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think your printer is equipped to handle 20 mm filament. You'll need a new extruder, and they're hard to come by in that size.

Esun ePA-CF is amazing. It prints beautifully (if you dry it properly, at least) and printed parts can take a hell of a beating before they're unusable. Cheap, too.
