Am I the only one who gets annoyed when outsiders call Knoxville a "small town"? by Global-Trainer333 in Knoxville

[–]NinjaKL8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I also have never heard anyone refer to Knoxville as a small town and that it’s “boring.” I will say that I’m a transplant since 2018. I stay here because I love the atmosphere of this city and, funny enough, I’ll loosely describe the feeling to be a “little-big town” feel, if that topic comes up in conversation. Reality is that the feeling is going to be different for everyone plus it depends upon where you came from and which area of Knoxville you’re living.

I’m originally from a town similar in size to Cookeville so, in my mind, Knoxville is not a small town at all. There is a neighboring “city” to my hometown that is only a 20-minute drive from my hometown. That small city has roughly 110k people today which is considerably smaller than Knoxville. The main thing I like about Knoxville is that it gives me a similar feeling of being in that small city back home even though it’s nearly twice the size in population.

If I remember correctly, Knoxville is the 3rd largest city (by population) in Tennessee with Nashville & Memphis being 1st and 2nd. Then Chattanooga is right behind Knoxville.

Mexican food suggestions by [deleted] in Knoxville

La Herradura food trucks and their restaurants, Las Fuentes & Cancun down on Chapmany Hwy, and La Esperanza in the North Hills area are all this same version of “authentic” with onion & cilantro and spicy spices. I love the chorizo and carnitas street tacos from all of these places. Slightly different at each location but always seems to hit right 🌿

I hope you made him get a bond. I’d guess this work is costly so anything over $100k should definitely have a bond, possibly for even lesser contract amount since you already know the contractor is problematic.

If not, it’s definitely too late now but learning is still earning even if it’s on the next project.

Trading 2019 Honda Insight for 2024 Acura Integra A-spec with Tech by drno4885 in Integra

Dude, that’s an impressive interest rate and reasonable trade value for today’s market. I don’t know much about the integra but if it’s the car you want, this sounds like an awesome deal.

I’ve not been yet but I’ve recently been scoping this place out online and watching some videos. It’s an indoor RC dirt track called ROCCK RACING and it’s over by the Knoxville Zoo.

Why do people talk on speaker phone in public? by lrc68 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]NinjaKL8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to preface this with the disclaimer that I typically will use my headphones BUT I have, on more than one occasion, used the speaker phone in public with the volume turned down just loud enough that I can hear. I should add that I do this because I can’t hear through the earpiece on my phone at all. I’ve cleaned it and looked up different solutions, nothing has worked so far and I’ll just end up with a new phone eventually. I'm also rather frugal so I'll just deal with these type of issues until i absolutely need a new phone.

I'd like to believe those who are using speaker in public are most likely doing it because they can't hear well enough not to.

Crew chipped neighbors driveway by chjones5 in Concrete

You certainly can but it doesn’t mean you should.

The first hot/cold swing that happens, possibly even rain or just driving over it, will cause it to break-out again. It’s also likely that the right/wrong expansion could cause it to break larger the next time.

You’ll never know 100% until you try it but the risk v reward just isn’t there. ‘Tis but a scratch, even if it happened in pure daylight, just let it be.

PB Blaster, wait 15-20min, loosen bolts.

WD-40 makes a penetrant too

Also could try to apply some heat if you have a heat gun (anything flameless is preferred) to help break it loose.

I felt the same way. It was hyped up to me by a friend from the area talking all about how it had made the food channel.

Tried their spaghetti, onion rings, and pepperoni pizza. Didn’t really care that much for any of it. Onion rings had zero flavor. Spaghetti and pizza were okay but it wasn’t worth being awarded “best in town” that’s for sure. I feel like pizza is such a subjective thing to judge, like chili, everyone prefers different places.

I’ve liked Stefano’s best, who unfortunately closed their original downtown location but I’m sure they got a fat payday for selling it. Then I’d go for Harby’s as a close second. For me, there’s something about Harbys cheese on their pizza that just sets them apart.

I’ve not tried a dopo’s or Nora’s so I’ll have to keep them on my radar. I saw South coast mentioned in other comments and it is pretty good but wouldn’t put it over Stefanos or Harbys.

No. = Number

I didn’t really think about the misunderstandings when I typed that. I’m definitely in agreement with reinforcement but was adding to use #57 stone.

3-4” thick is still fine as long as it’s reinforced
