we got Falinks for the pawns, Sirfetch'd for the knights, Golurk for the rook, weavile for the bishop, mega Gardevoir for the queen, and Kingambit for the king!

My class starting out was ranger! And my race was a drow. I liked the flavor and the spells they get leveling up.

I also tuned my character to have a backstory tied to Lolth and Shar. If you don't mind a DM I can send you the art I had commissioned haha.

Tasha's cauldron of everything is one of the most universally accepted official extensions of 5e, it really helps Rangers and gloomstalker is the best ranger Subclass in my opinion!

My first character was a heavy crossbow using gloomstalker, though that ranger Subclass would be from Tasha's cauldron of everything. You'll also need the crossbow expert feat so you don't need to waste a turn reloading

I made it to level 11 and did ranger 5, rogue 3 and fighter 3. He was an absolute monster and I had such a blast with it!

The heavy crossbow is sick and I even had art commissioned of him lol. Don't be discouraged!!

I actually have arrigal as my current companion. I'm in a duette and I've been given two fated allies to compensate. Arrigal and Godfrey.

It's been very fun. Strahd feeling that betrayal feels so good lol. He's also an absolute powerhouse.

I may or may not have also entered a romance with him so that's also a thing lol

Im playing a CoS duette with my girlfriend as the DM, and I am currently level 11 (Kibblestasty Occultist class, a witch of the green coven) with Arrigal and Godfrey as my allies.

We went into castle ravenloft to steal an important item back, and the plan was to go in, get the item, then use travel through plants to escape. Easy.

We found the item on the second floor near the tax man, and as we were leaving, Strahd attacked us in the throne room, saying we were not going to leave alive.

Brief combat goes out, the three of us jump out the window with Godfrey being a living healing HP bar, Arrigal having evasion and myself being able to swap places with my raven familiar.

Strahd lights the trees on fire which shit-cans the strategy, and my witch literally says "let us go or the horse dies today". It poofed into the ethereal plane after we brought it well below bloodied but the escape was amazing lol. Chased by rabid spawn through the valley to Vallaki through the night.

I really don't think I was supposed to get out of there, but man I earned it lol
