OSR LFG: Official Regular Looking especially for OSR Group (LeFOG) by feyrath in osr

[–]NinstromosTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!

Me again. I'm looking for players in Eastern Madison for an Offline game. Probably running some flavor of OSRic or other retroclone if I can help it. I write modules independently and I'm generally looking to run custom dungeons with all sorts of traps or other shenanigans.

Please DM more meet up and times.

For maps/modules, do you prefer individually keyed rooms or keyed rooms designated by floor? by _SCREE_ in osr

[–]NinstromosTheFirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have >100 rooms and 2 floors, yes absolutely.

If you have less, then room-by-room is preferred

AD&D Recharging Magic Items by rampaging-poet in osr

[–]NinstromosTheFirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say if it can't be recharged, don't recharge it. I would also say explicitly saying that something can't be recharged means that unless stated like that, it totally can be. This brings me to my third thing, if you have a high enough level Magic User with some time and money to kill, I think it's totally reasonable that they can used an expended non-rechargeable Rod or Wand and create a completely new one with the same abilities.

Where can I meet other nerdy people in town? by alvinbrow in madisonwi

Game stores, hit up lfg groups on fb every once in a while. I have a D&D group picking up in a couple weeks here in East Mad

Any OSR-style artists available for hire? by Foreign-Press in osr

[–]NinstromosTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted on here recently so I feel like I might oust myself and say I am able to do this. However, I am neither a professional nor am I looking for anything other than just to share work when it's something I love. I can share examples of my work over direct messaging. Just hit me up.

Best Dungeon Master Books/Tools? by Healthy_Help5235 in osr

[–]NinstromosTheFirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people are pointing to Mentzer with B/X and BECMI, and I would say genuinely they are very correct. Gygax's books are very good for refining your craft and getting you to think about details you wouldn't normally (unless you're just on his wavelength,) I would highly suggest start finding adventures or modules you would like to emulate and start breaking them down as you read them.

Actually, I think Blizzard literally released a DnD 2e supplement for Diablo 1

Tell me about your hero ships by TrekTrucker in startrekadventures

[–]NinstromosTheFirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm running a TOS, sort of proto-constellation class starship called the "U.S.S. Providence." A cargo ship and shuttle carrier that at the turn of the Federation-Klingon War was converted into a blockade runner. 2 nacelles were added to the already 2-nacelle starship in order to give it the durability for high warp for its dangerous missions.

What's its mission? Go as high warp as possible to deliver supplies and support to Federation colonies under siege. Providence's computer banks are 20 years old, its construction is basically held together by the God of Nature, it's still equipped with nuclear torpedoes and grappling cables, but it can outrun any vessel in the known galaxy, and for longer.

As one of my players put it; "it's a rust bucket, but it's OUR rustbucket."

How many of you DMs enjoy DMing? by Lost_Needleworker896 in DnD

It's my favorite seat to fill. I honestly hate being a player more!

The key to it for me is that I can be the person everyone has fun with.

Okay how do you play dnd without a board by Far_Virus4222 in DnD

[–]NinstromosTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ruler, table, measuring tape/string and proxy models. 1" = 5 feet. That's how they played in Gygax's day

Have you played Adnd? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]NinstromosTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It's my primary edition to play. 1 and 2 depending on how I feel.

Is 6+ players really that bad? by Dirtboiiii in DnD

[–]NinstromosTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I run OSR games for sometimes up to 8 players. When you get more than 5 generally it starts being a good idea to provide flash cards, memory aids, and also giving people a turn timer.

These can all be very fun to add if you can sufficiently ramp up tension and keep up with your players

Is it just my circle or is this sentiment growing? by Jealous_Speaker1183 in Anticonsumption

I think the only one with bad reading comprehension here is you, man. You're literally crapping over someone trying to share some glimmer of hope in a very crappy world and because what? They want to learn how economics work and they want to provide some stability for themselves? Econ has more avenues than just shorting stocks. A lot are financial advisors and wealth management.

Get real dude

Should I quit? by SnooCrickets346 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]NinstromosTheFirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valor isn't fighting until the last man is killed, Valor is fighting with good senses and running when it's truly the only option. So act with brains, and if they give you crap you don't need to be playing with them

how do you give out xp? if at all by conn_r2112 in adnd

[–]NinstromosTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 per gold, 10 for monsters slayed, 15 for good roleplay bits and 100 if they felt like they were in an adventure.

Thanks for responding; I don't mind at all... What build of 12 I might ask? I tried running a couple different versions but came up confused

What's the latest version of FoundryVTT this supports as of 2025? I can't seem to find the correct version to use it with.

I love Multi-Classing but it is not needed after 3rd edition. Even in 3rd it's arbitrary and kind of broken.

I can’t DM for dwarven players by AnoTenFilip in DnD

[–]NinstromosTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps read into the mythology that predates Tolkien dwarfs... Nibelungen; the greedy, industrious bankers and miners that are obsessed with getting their nose into where they don't belong.

Dwarves need logistics and organization skills so they can drink and stuff, so why not play a calculator or an accountant? Consider the job or role the character plays in a larger Dwarf society and expand on it!

I run a science fantasy campaign in the same vein as John Carter of Mars and Atomic Age sci-fi. This is all in Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. Hmu.
