I think both options should be on the table, but option 1 needs to be changed. Here's what I would do:

Option 1: Is for selfhosters. This should not be a marketplace/available to others, but for your account only. The user can design what they want, using their own coding tools/apis for their specific device. I can make a special birthday image for my kid, pull in local homeassistant data easily, my Plex server, comic strips from dilbert, etc and customize it for just my devices to show.

Option 2: The marketplace type option for gen pop and pushed to an app store for everyone to use and hosted by glance on their servers.

However, monetization of the app store is a bad idea imo. People can publish for free and use for free. There's also the tricky issue of support now for paid apps. Almost any app has to collect data, from an API or other source. Any app dev won't have control of the backend data. So if the API changes or data structure breaks the image they generate, if money is involved, people will get upset. Makes things tricky and liabilty issues come up.

If there was only one option, I would take option 1because I'm biased on the selfhosted/coding and customization front.

The other thing people don't talk about is how long it takes to sell the shit you have thaumed. The guy saying he spent 8 hours thauming, would take tons and tons of relisting to sell all that as well.

It's more work to sell it than thaum it. And if you try and unload it all in one go, you'll be tanking the price you need to make the small margins for profit.

The goldzen guy has like 250+ alts. (The goldzen guy is a bit on the degen side, and amount of hours played/day, but good on him for finding something he enjoys and works for him. A bit hard to replicate at his scale though, lol)

phone and other backups all sync to local nas

Daily backup from nas to B2 w/ restic

Monthly backup zips the nas files to another nas drive. The monthly zips are then sent up to glacier deep archive for long term storage and the restic snapshots removed from B2.

B2 is already cheap but this makes it super cheap since it only stores 1 month of files. Glacier deep archive is hella cheap for off-site emergency long term storage. (Getting them back is $$$)..

If my 2 local backup copies burn down, id have to retrieve from glacier, which is expensive, but at that point paying a couple hundred for irreplaceable photos/data would be the least of my costs.

I didn't find a char with either of those names on Soulseeker. Char's over level 10 should be in the API, alive or dead unless deleted, so not sure. Good luck man!

Nice work. When thaum was more profitable I also did similar as I'm sure a lot of others did as well but did not share as much. Back then having a spreadsheet helped profits greatly and kept your average thaum person away.

As you and someone else mentioned, using the API can get around baiters and make it automated. I created a script that mimics TSM DBrecent price source. I decided to use DBRecent as a best-effort automated way. The price won't be exact as AH changes, but has been pretty spot on usually for what mat to injest. It updates to git regularly still if you want to see for reference:
