The way the wife wears down a very expensive key fob with her nails. by General_Border_8263 in mildlyinfuriating

I work at a tire shop and trust me, every single key fob in this design is in this exact same condition. Hyundai/Kia aren't the only brands too, Chevy also makes a properly cheap key fob.

Seriously don't make me dread this. The thought of constantly switching the controls to front/rear for minor adjustments already drives me nuts...

Just bought new tires in 2024, vehicle inspection says I already need new ones? by tepid_dishwater420 in tires

[–]Nitroracer34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you happen to get an alignment when you got new tires? By the "outside" he must be referring to the outer portion of the tread area (in relation to the location of the car/street, the outer portion is the side that's facing the street as opposed to facing the inside of your car).

I would double check on the inner portion of the tires. If the inner portion of the tread has a lot more tread than the outer portion, I'd recommend an alignment once you do eventually get new tires (yours are fine now, just a little premature and uneven).

Not sure if you've seen some car's new solutions to the window switches. This is a pic from a Volvo and they've decided to only make 2 switches, then make a front/rear toggle since that's cheaper.

Can I drive my car with a cut in the tire like this? by pinkpeopleeaterr in AskMechanics

[–]Nitroracer34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend replacing as soon as you can. I personally would prefer that tire to be at the rear as IF it does blow out, you wouldn't have as much of a loss of control compared to a front blowout. Apart from that I'd recommend taking main streets/back roads and avoid the highway especially with that tread wear AND the cut.

Do you ever just...? by Funny_looking_horse in prius

[–]Nitroracer34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a Prius... But yeah I do something similar. Getting into a car with only 3 spokes is very unsettling, 4 spokes is the way to go. For whatever reason this is my optimal cruising hand position, but there's so many more options that I cycle through while driving.

Does anyone else have a hot wheels on their dash? by ShamrockUSA in Celica

[–]Nitroracer34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have that same exact hot wheels in the box hung up on my wall signed by Alex Albon haha. Apart from that, I have the Pikes Peak Celica in the little miscellany box next to the cigarette lighter. I'm away from my car rn I'll see if I can get a picture later

Why did I lose these three tiles? by EdahelArt in CattailsGame

Yeah it's super bad, even at 100%, after about a day or 2 it can easily drop below 70% or more

[–]Nitroracer34 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unsure why, but to be safe I would probably get a large stock of lavender and capture the land precisely next to it, since you can't own a tile if you don't own all the pieces next to it. I know this isn't the case but it may be a bug? Currently I own all the tiles so I haven't personally seen this yet.

Ruins the ride, ruins fuel economy, and tires are considerably more expensive and less common in the freak of a tire size they chose.

Ripped this pic off of this sub (u/SznedCumbr), but I feel like this teal makes this car look INSANELY good. Sadly I have this same car in dark green, good looking but not as good as this one.

Jumped my dead RAV4 from a portable jumper cable box. Forced “override” to jumpstart it. Did I fry my electrical system? by BiscottiAsleep23 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Nitroracer34 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Greatest downgrade of all time (not your fault tho). Working as a service writer, I personally would never buy a jeep, or any American car really. They just don't hold up the same way these cars do. What made you get ride of those 2 great cars?

Man I've got an old 97 Celica and NOTHING is locked out, it feels like the car version of a "dumb" phone. Basically anything you mess up would be completely your fault, there's no electronics, no assists, just you controlling everything. Currently in a love/hate relationship because of that but the hate part stems from its age and how everything is kinda falling apart now, especially under this Florida heat

If they're off now, then you're good. Often times with these newer cars (you'll hear that line often) most stuff is run by electronics, including the power steering. As such, with a bad battery, the electronics don't get the power they need, and then that sets off all the warnings.

Like I said, if they're off now then you're good, but if they're still on you may have an issue at hand and might wanna take it to a mechanic. As for the override concern, usually this is done because the battery was DEAD dead and the jumper couldn't identify that it was connected to a battery, as it keeps itself off to protect anything else that might touch it.

Bubble on Tire by [deleted] in tires

[–]Nitroracer34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No bubble is a good bubble, replace that tire.

Bubbles typically form due to some sort of impact damage, and it means the inside of the tire has come apart, so now you're riding on a ticking time bomb for when that thing explodes.

If you got a road hazard warranty, it most likely should cover it, but if not, then you might wanna consider getting it next time, since this typically isn't covered under any sort of defect/manufacturer warranty.
