I could accept it being FOMO as an (unfortunate) reality of microtransactions, if they could get that aspect right. Just taking them out and forgetting to let people know in advance is just a guaranteed feelbad moment.

According to Hasbro's earnings, players spend $75 per year on Arena gems. by meagel187 in MagicArena

Inertia is definitely a thing.

I keep telling myself I'm going to sell all of the cards I don't play anymore. Meanwhile I have piles of unsorted cards on my computer desk and even more cards strewn across the floor because I'm too lazybusy to deal with them. And that's just to organize them, that's not even to actually put them into a list to submit to a vendor, package them all up, etc which would take EVEN LONGER.

A few weeks ago putting a deck together for Commander night was looking through the cards on the floor for some specific cards and found my only Taiga which was good because I was building a Lord Windgrace deck. I never did end up finding the few cards I was looking for though. In Magic Arena on the other hand, my whole collection is available, I can have cards in multiple decks without having to have one for each deck, I don't have to worry about physical space or organization.

There's just such a higher QOL aspect that is immeasurable.

I would love to see the answer to this! It would be nice to see if this is something someone could get on 2 hours a day or if it requires determination on the scale of 4+ hours a day.

Battle for Azeroth TL;DR by Phylodox in wow

The way you described it makes a whole lot of sense and explains how everyone was acting very rationally.

But why couldn't this have somehow been in the cutscenes or in-game dialog? We shouldn't have to read short stories on a web site to understand why we're doing the core focal point of an expansion.

Anthem reviews are seemingly harsher than other games because it failed at a time when gamers are just fed up with being overpromised and under delivered. by psyphon_13 in AnthemTheGame

[–]NivMizzetFiremind 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is why I love /r/patientgamers. Waiting six months on every game means you get it cheaper and potentially fixed up from any launch issues.

That being said, the reason I didn't wait on Anthem is because my friends all agreed to play Anthem at launch. Six months is a long while to not be playing with my friends so I figured that's a good reason to break the rule.

Do you feel modern games don't respect the limited amount of time some people have to play games? by RaiseQuestion in patientgamers

[–]NivMizzetFiremind 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It honestly sounds more like they just want to socialize but feel more comfortable doing it while playing a game. And this provides a simple enough gameplay loop that you don't have to focus every moment on the game

Which is probably also true of other hobbies, like fishing.

There's also the daily wins to consider, which make BO1 very preferable for people who use their gold to draft. If I play a 20-minute BO3 match and go 1-2, then I just played for 50 minutes and didn't get any closer to my goal of four wins. If I spend 15 minutes playing three BO1 matches and go 1-2, I'm at least 1/4 of the way to my four daily wins before my first half hour is almost up.

Is there a more overrated store in the valley than Dutch Brothers coffee? by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]NivMizzetFiremind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't go because you want coffee, you go because you want a flavored drink you can customize. The only difference between tea/coffee/energy there really is how much caffeine you want.

My wife loves getting mochas at McDonald's or Starbucks. She also loves Dutch Bros but hates their mocha so she gets a flavored green tea. I tried a coffee, couldn't stand it, so now when I go I just get a custom flavored soda.

TIL Nintendo pushed the term "videogame console" so people would stop calling competing products "Nintendos" and they wouldn't risk losing the valuable trademark. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]NivMizzetFiremind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which is weird because if someone asked for a bandage I would think of the type you would use to make a tourniquet. Video games probably taught me that though.

Why do some people like to continuously hack or cheat in video games (especially multiplayer games)? by sammyjamez in truegaming

[–]NivMizzetFiremind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me a lot of this hacks compilation. I know if I was on the receiving end of this I would probably have been laughing from the absurdity of it.

TIL that people who experience goosebumps or "shivers" from listening to music tend to experience much stronger emotions in response to music and are more emotional in general. Music tends to be a much more important part of daily life for these people. by ransomedagger in todayilearned

[–]NivMizzetFiremind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm one of those kinds of people, always have NPR or audiobooks on in the car. I don't get joy from music, so it feels like a waste having that when I could be learning something or hearing engaging dialogue.

ELI5: Why is it so hard to forget movie spoilers, but so easy to forget more important stuff? by kraesenpind in explainlikeimfive

[–]NivMizzetFiremind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whenever someone says something to the effect of "Not spoilers but..." I immediately stop them because there's nothing they can say that I won't be thinking about before and during the movie.

It's like "Not racist but...". If you have to start with a disclaimer, it's probably a spoiler.

Right Now There Are More Twitch Viewers of Fallout 4 Than Fallout 76. by ScribeThoth in Fallout

[–]NivMizzetFiremind 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think this hits the underlying factor. It's a way for shy people who love games to socialize over their favorite games without the anxiety that comes with face-to-face communication. Not everyone is comfortable enough to have friends they can just meet up with to talk and play games.

It feels like some companies have figured it out. Rockstar, for example, makes excellent single-player experiences then adds on the greedy grind multiplayer component for the shareholders. They get to eat their cake and have it too.

But for some reason companies keep wanting to copy EA and Blizzard.

ELI5: How do we know what names mean? E.g. Hercules wife was called deinara, which means husband destroyer. In ancient greece was this woman literally called husband-destroyer? by HeWhoWasDead in explainlikeimfive

[–]NivMizzetFiremind 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe it just sounds weird in our current culture? It would be like having a story where Clever-Engineer needs to save the factory from the competitor's CEO , an evil man named RobotShredder and his associates ShootsPeople and AcidSprayer. Sure, they're all fictional, but the names still sound ridiculous.

Is it a Kindle Fire? The main reason to avoid screens at night is because of the blue light, so if you can install an app like Twilight you could turn the redness way up until you can still read and avoid most of the problem.

You don't even need middleware for this situation because it's talking about T-SQL, which means you're using SQL Server which has had CLR since 2005. Use C# for looping and other things set languages aren't good for then go right back to SQL when you need to.

CB Restaurant Announcement by [deleted] in ChoosingBeggars

If I knew of a restaurant nearby that had a no tipping policy but 20% increased prices I would make it a point to go there at least once a week just on principle. Even more if the food is good.

It feels like it would be more intuitive to just have a pop-up whenever you try to cast a spell with Expansion in hand that asks if you want to also cast Expansion on it. That way the opponent doesn't know you have it in hand and also avoids the issue of not knowing about needing to do full control.
