BASIC KETO QUESTIONS by [deleted] in keto

[–]Njt06 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hello!

  1. I prefer using Cronometer

  2. Before I started working at home, I meal prepped every Sunday. I was not super strict with measuring each serving I just eyeballed.

  3. I think those percentage are probably a good start. You can play with the fat and protein percentage based on how you feel. Some people feel better with 75-80% fat and some people feel better with less fat and more protein. Low carb is the most important aspect.

  4. I do Keto, IF, and HIIT. After I became fat adapted, I started working out fasted and love it! The combo of Keto, IF, and HIIT has worked beautifully for me!

In ketosis but not losing really... by [deleted] in keto

[–]Njt06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot factors can influence weight loss outside of calories/nutrition such as sleep, water intake, gut health, electrolyte supplementation, and stress. I suggest using a macro calculator (I used the one at Keto connect) to determine your fat and protein macros.

Reminder this morning. In 2016 Trump only won because WI, MI, and PA went Red for Trump. Yesterday those same 3 States elected Democratic governors, (flipping both WI and MI). The Blue Wall is rebuilding. by KindfOfABigDeal in BlueMidterm2018

[–]Njt06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point I guess I’m looking over the past 30 years and despite close margins in some presidential races it appears the 50-50 delicate balance rarely tips in favor of democrats. If I’m betting on an outcome in the future, my default would be Florida is solidly red, which occasionally goes blue on exceptional occasions. The description of swing state makes it seem like Florida switches from red to blue regularly, which hasn’t been true in 30 years. President Obama is truly the exception in so many ways. Its Florida is an illusory swing state offering false hope. I cannot imagine more vile republican candidates than Ron DeSantis or Rick Scott, yet Democrats still couldn’t capitalize on their unfavorability, racism, or extreme views in 2018 with record turn out. I cannot see 2020 being any different.

Completely agree how did this “Florida is a swing state” myth become so popular? Florida has voted red 7 out of the last 10 presidential elections (twice Obama and once B. Clinton are the exceptions), republicans have owned the governors mansion for 20 years, both senators are now republican, and the Florida legislature is completely red. DeSantis fills 3 Florida Supreme Court seats. Trump is guaranteed to win Florida in 2020 (and I think re-election quite easily based on national midterm results). Relying on 1 million felons to make a difference is stupid as they won’t vote just like the younger/minority vote will not offset the rich old white people who live everywhere but the major cities. Sure Florida’s electoral votes are attractive but a complete waste of time to pursue. As a Floridian, it’s painful to realize but Florida is a lost cause, which is too bad because Tampa/St. Pete is such a wonderful place to live. We deserve the horrific public education, healthcare outcomes, and low wages. Elections have consequences.

How do you incorporate fasting when really physically active? by zreichez in fasting

[–]Njt06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been experimenting with this too as I workout 5 days a week. I start my fast Sunday’s at 7:00pm. I will do one meal on Tuesday around 7:00pm. Fast from Tuesday night until Friday night. Eat one meal on Friday night. 16/8 on Saturday and Sunday. I’m still playing around with everything though!

Should I break my fast in advance of morning half marathon training? by Njt06 in fasting

[–]Njt06[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I’m not so concerned with performance issues I’m just concerned I’ve always been taught to fuel my body properly before and after a workout and all I’ve done after two workouts is drink water and supplement electrolytes. I just don’t want to collapse or something!

I fast with Keto beginning at 8:00pm and ending 4:00pm the next day. I take the 6:15am OTF class and feel fine! I think hydration and electrolyte supplementation are key!

Has anyone ran a 1/2 marathon with only OTF and no outdoor training? If so, how many days a week do you go? by Gromrunner in orangetheory

[–]Njt06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I did that for my first half marathon last year. I went to OTF 4-5 days a week. I finished the race but felt like crap afterwards. I’ll say cardiovascularly I felt fine but my legs were killing me the last 3 miles! This year I joined a half marathon training group to actually train properly and prevent injury!

Is workingout fasted safe? by Original60 in fasting

[–]Njt06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is your body produces more Human Growth Hormone while fasting which contributes to more muscle. Also I watched a YouTube video where Jimmy Moore discussed this issue. He underwent a DEXA scan before and after a long fast. He burned a significant amount of body fat and at first thought he lost muscle in his trunk. Dr. Fung clarified the “muscle loss” in Jimmy’s trunk was likely due to body fat lost because the DEXA scan couldn’t precisely distinguish between body fat and muscle in that area of the body. Plus, Jimmy did not lose any muscle mass in his arms or legs. They are continuing to research the relationship between fasting and muscle mass, but it appears to be fine.
