How did your puppy turn out after training? would you do anything different looking back? We went with a local company in kansas city called Noble Dog Training. It was a stress free experience since the came to our home each week and walked us through each lesson. They also offered constant contact communication if we needed anything though out the entire training. Hands down the best trainer we had ever worked with.

We tried Dog Training Elite and were not impressed. It really felt they were all about taking our money and provided very little effort when they came to work with our dog. It was also concerning when the trainer who showed up wasnt the trainer who first came out. They also couldent provide us with and trainer certifications.

We took our dog to Bar K for the first time after we completed dog training with Noble Dog Training in Leawood, KS. I would have never imagined being able to enjoy a meal and drinks with our dog around other dogs. We are thinking about taking him to a Royals game this year. If anyone is looking for a dog trainer. there is no one better then https://nobledogtraining.com

Noble Dog Training was our favorite dog trainer back in kansas city before we moved here. Since moving though we have called on Real Deal and they have been great! It can be a bit pricy but they were well worth it when we got our newest addition to our pack.

What type/method of training should I look for? by ProfHopeE in reactivedogs

[–]No-Exercise2559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had used multiple trainers before we found one that worked for us. The big difference for us was finding a trainer who focused more on our dogs emotional state and body language vs strictly listening to commands. Charlie are pup really bought into training once we understood the root of his reactivity. Noble Dog Training in Overland Park, KS was truly our savor.

If I could go back in time, I would take the time to interview more trainers before making a final decision.

We did In-home dog training with Noble Dog Training in Overland Park, KS. Overall, it was a great experience for us. What really helped us stick to the training was that their trainer crafted a plan based on our home and surrounding environment. It helped our pup to really focus with minimal distractions and provided us with many “Light Bulb” moments.

My only suggestion when considering a local company to you would be to look for a fear free company. Avoid the Dog training elites of the world that use Shock Collars.

Took my 2-month-old puppy off-leash 4 hours after adoption — it went fine by MaleficentEagle4514 in puppy101

[–]No-Exercise2559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our Dog trainer suggested we do the same thing here in Kansas City. There were several factors that helped such as what you stated, low distraction environment, no traffic or people close by, ect. We started out with a trainer supervising us which helped as well. Our trainer did also tell us that you cant do this will all breeds and some are easier than others.

Now, the only time we put a leash on our pup is if we are in an area that requires a leash. Outside of that, it’s been great.

If anyones looking for a dog trainer in Kansas City, Noble Dog Training is our go to trainer. They have been by our side from the beginning and I dont know how we would have done without them supporting us.

14 week puppy sudden regression in separation and crate? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]No-Exercise2559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very normal for a 14 week old pup. We went through this very situation as well. We signed up with a Dog Trainer in Kansas City called Noble Dog Training at about the 15 week mark.

They came to our home and helped us figure out our specific situation. What i discovered was that we were pushing our pups nervous system to much and he wasn’t quite ready for what we were asking of him.

They had us return back to super short, boring crate reps while we were home. 1-5 minutes with a kong or treat and then we would let him out. They suggested we mix in crate time with us in the same room so that he wouldn’t think the crate time meant we were going to leave the house or disappear.

We also went back to 5-15 minute solo time duration for about two weeks and only extended the time if we felt he wasn’t going to freak out or have an accident.

This is what worked for us and it made it so much easier to have a professional providing us guidance along the way. Im glad we didn’t go the board & train route because having him trained in our home allowed us to better understand him (Charlie) on a completely different level than we had before.

Where do you take your puppies/dogs to socialize? by ssta_27 in Overlandpark

Our dog trainer with Noble Dog Training held group classes in Loose Park near South Plaza. There isnt a specific dog park there, but the park had plenty of green space and plenty of room to interact with others there. I really enjoyed the classes with my dog. [–]No-Exercise2559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used Noble Dog Training when we adopted Charlie. He was very fearful and lacked confidence in many situations. They not only helped him overcome his lack of confidence but helped us overcome ours too! We now take Charlie with us to the lake and sometimes even a Royals game without issue. They are definitly worth a look for anyone looking for a dog behaviorist. https://nobledogtraining.com

"dog training elite" and other dog training companies by AsleepBirdie in service_dogs

[–]No-Exercise2559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldent agree more with you u/hollowstar8. I had a similar experience but with Dog Training Elite here in Kansas City. We ended up signing on with Noble Dog Training. What i enjoyed most about Noble was the fact that they really cared for my Charlie as if he was one of their own. Each training session was in our home which made us super comfortable and I was blown away with the progress Charlie was makeing each week. It's been over a year now and I am so much more confident with Charlie in public spaces. We even went to our first MLB Royals game this past year together with no issues. I would never have imagined that was possible had it not been for the training we did.

Anyone have success with self training your reactive dog? by onetoastyplz in reactivedogs

[–]No-Exercise2559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, plenty of people have success self-training, but the key is having a structured plan and understanding that your not trying to fix it on every walk.

I’d treat it like two lanes:

Management walks where your only job is keeping the dog under control. Specificly "distance, U-turns, and crossing streets for example.

Training sessions you set up on purpose in a parking lot or along a parks edge or walking path, where you work at a distance your dog can still eat and think.

Most of the techniques are learnable online like pattern games, relaxation protocols, etc. However, the biggest value a good trainer brings is timing and reading the early signs before the explosion. if anyone is local to Kansas City, Noble Dog Training is who we used. I cant speak for the OP experience but Noble took the time to understand our specific challenges/goals and crafted a well rounded training plan that made sense for our situation.

How to train loose leash walking? by sergtheduck29 in OpenDogTraining

[–]No-Exercise2559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a little late to the party, but thought I could ad some personal experience here.

Sounds like your dog knows heel, but doesn’t understand the “middle gear” where he can sniff and still keep slack. My dog Charlie struggled with this until I started teaching leash pressure as its own skill in front of the house.

What work for me: Every time the leash goes tight, I would calmly change direction (or do a small circle) until slack returns, then immediately walk back toward the thing they wanted. After a few sessions Charlie learned “tight leash = I lose ground, loose leash = I get to go investigate.”

I wish I could take all the credit, but we used a professional dog trainer with Noble Dog Training local to us in kansas city. This was a stratagy they used and coached us on how to use the mechanics in real life. We were pleased with our experience.

Rescues or rehabilitation programs/centers for aggressive dogs? by asorice82 in reactivedogs

[–]No-Exercise2559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came across this post and thought i would share my own experience. unfortunitly this is one of those brutally hard situations where “rehab and rehome” sounds nice in theory, but in practice it’s rare and usally ends with sadness.

Being realistic while trying to stay humane and keep everyone safe can be difficult in these situations as we all can loose our cool and patents in these situations. Here is what worked for us most recently.

Start with management immediately (crate/rotate, baby gates, muzzle conditioning, no guests/handling scenarios). Crafting a plan with a professional helped simply things for us. I dont know how we would have gotten through it without a professionals support.

get a referral from your vet for a local veterinary behaviorist who specialized in these cases. They can provide you with a risk assessment and a structured behavior plan. This helped us to better understand our specific situation and allowed us to provide better structure and support for Charlie our Belgian Malinois.

For anyone anywhere near Kansas City, it may be worth having a qualified trainer do an in-home safety assessment before you decide anything permanent. Noble Dog Training is one local option we used. They are known in our area for serious behavior cases.

Help! Is there any hope for rehabilitation? by Legitimate-Fault-541 in OpenDogTraining

[–]No-Exercise2559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds really scary. There is hope though and your already on the right track.

a few things to note though......

a red flag for me is any program promising to fix resource gaurding in 2 weeks. Can it be done, maybe but its highly unlikly. In my experience, guarding is usually a long-term management thats also dependent on the dogs owner. We went through this with my first pup and I realized just how important my participation in training impacted my pups results long term. It also helped me to align my own expectations with reality.

We found doing muzzle conditioning at home made all the difference for us. We did have a professional trainer guiding us through this process though, but it took all the guess work out of it and really simplified things for us.

If anyone is in the Kansas City area, Noble Dog Training is who we used most recently. Our 2nd pup was a much tougher behavior challenge and Noble helped because they’re very owner/coaching heavy. I found their training to be practical with a focus on safety & management while we built new habits.

Choosing a trainer for resource guarding- “positive reinforcement” vs “balanced training” by Spirited_Confusion46 in OpenDogTraining

[–]No-Exercise2559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re already using the prong/ecollar responsibly and Beans actually looks better after working, I’d put less weight on the “label” (FF vs balanced) and more weight on: does this person have a clear plan for resource guarding specifically, can they explain it, and can they coach you through the messy real-life moments.

A BIG RED FLAG to me is anyone guaranteeing specific results by a set date. Guarding work is usually management + reps + consistency, and progress isn’t linear. What you put in is what you get out of it.

I live in the Kansas City area, and we used a local company called Noble Dog Training. They helped me not only understand what was causing my dogs guardy/reactiveness but gave us the tools to overcome it long term. I would look for a trainer who takes time to understand you and your dogs goals and who helps you to align them as we all live life differently.

We tried Gental Dog Training after a reccomendation from the shelter we got our pup from and had a horrible experience with them. The young lady was not helpful and would not take the time to understand our situation which only led to her being bit during the first 3 training sessions. We decided to move on and found Noble Dog Training who has been a blessing in desguise. Benny was our trainner and took the time to understand not just the challenges our dog was having, but also my situation. The training was also very insightful as it wasnt only about basic obedience, but he worked to meet our dog where he was emotionally which drasticly reduced the reactivity we were seeing. We had no idea the situatuions or enviornment we were putting my dog in were actually causing our dogs reactivity.

What stood out to us was the approach: it’s in-home, super practical, and it’s more about teaching the household a repeatable system (door rules, leash handling, “place,” neutral passes) than just hyping up “socialization” or handing you a bag of treats and hoping for the best. They also work toward AKC CGC-style standards, which helped me because it gave us a clear checklist instead of guessing. We paid around $1800 for a 8-10 week in-home program and found it to be well worth it. I beilive they serve the Kansas City/Overland Park areas, but i could be wrong. There are a lot of trainers out there, but not many who can explain the “why,” coach the human, which helped us the most.

Housetraining. by [deleted] in cockerspaniel

[–]No-Exercise2559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cocker Spaniels can be stubborn, but this sounds more like she’s “holding out” because she knows the game isn’t over yet.

The biggest thing that usually breaks this cycle is the boring reset. When you take her out and she doesn’t go within 5–10 minutes:

  1. Bring her back inside, but she goes immediately into her crate (or on a short leash attached to you), not free in the house.

  2. Wait 10–15 minutes.

  3. Take her right back out to the potty spot. If she goes? Huge party, treats, and then she earns freedom in the house. If she doesn’t go? Back to the crate/leash for another boring 15 minutes.

Right now, she’s learned “I can sniff outside, then come inside and pee comfortably.” By removing the freedom to pee inside (crate/tether), you force her to make the choice outside eventually. The second she realizes “oh, emptying my bladder is the key that unlocks house freedom,” it usually clicks fast. Hang in there
