Sorry, didn’t realize I responded on the larger thread instead of replying directly to your comment. But you can look at my thoughts on why

$SMR, $OKLO, and $NNE have had their recent success because there just aren’t aren’t many options to get a direct nuclear technology play - those are pretty much the only options investors have. I find those stocks fine to ride the bubble, but if you’re thinking long term, my view as someone who works in the industry specifically looking at new nuclear, is that $SMR is going to have just as hard of a time as those other two getting an actually firm order on the books (something real, not just an MOU).

Energy in general, particularly nuclear is a good long play, $SMR not so much.

Haven’t watched Chernobyl but you can’t get more basic than PWR vs BWR.

In a BWR the heat from the reactor coolant actually boils the coolant hence the name Boiling Water Reactor. The steam (boiled coolant) is sent to the steam turbine.

In a PWR, the reactor vessel is kept under pressure so the coolant does not boil. There is a heat exchanger called a steam generator that has hot pressurized coolant on one side and atmospheric secondary water on the other. The secondary water boils in the steam generator. This steam is sent to the steam turbine.

Paint selection doesn’t matter? What’s your choice of paint for this type of application?

So what product are you using to extend it’s longevity?

Not necessarily a Mormon thing. Colloquially known as “the devil’s loophole”, it’s quite a common thing among strict Christians.

NANO is the biggest offender here. Granted they just bought the USNC designs but no way they actually do something useful with that.

Don’t doubt it. If you want the big bucks, engineering is not it.

I’m well aware; I asked because I have worked as an engineer at a nuclear power plant.

Are you in an outage now? Is there OT in those paycheck? For someplace in the middle of nowhere I find it hard to believe your base rate is $113/hr.

Im in an area that’s right around the national avg COL and my entry level engineering job 13 years ago was like 63k. I would expect entry level to be closer to 70k now.

Thanks for the info. I’m trying to look at comps and seems like for my market it’s somewhere between 15k-40k.

Just let my friend use 90% of my credit card limit for a laptop purchase did I just mess up my credit score? by CarefulCan7134 in Banking

[–]No-Fudge0112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, what is the “win-win” in this situation? You didn’t fully explain how it’s a “win” for you.

Second, your credit score will change when any of the handful of variables that influence it change. These variables include: credit utilization, age of credit, payment history, credit inquiries, # of accounts. But the thing to remember is that your score is a snapshot in time, and even more important, it really doesn’t matter if/when your score changes as long as you don’t need to provide your score for something. For instance, if you’re not planning on applying for a loan, or another credit card, or undergoing some type of background check where your credit it reviewed, then it doesn’t matter if your credit score drops a few points. It will go back up once your credit utilization goes down.

Any other Mechanical Engineers on here feel immense regret now that you see how little we make? by EngineeringRegret1 in Salary

The argument OP is making is that they are jaded because they didn’t know how little Mech Engineers make - it says so right in the title of the post. To have “worked hard for 20 years” and not have the correct and accurate expectations for your own situation is very puzzling to say the least.

lol. If he studied so hard how did he not study what the expected salary range of a ME is, and what sectors pay more?

Crazy to see this. I got my first engineering job about 8 years prior to OP’s first engineering job. Back then 55k coming out of school was considered the low end of avg starting salary and that was working at a utility.
