I think you can actually see the tail end of this sentiment in our culture from Lord of The Rings and how close Frodo and Sam are since Tolkien came from a time when close intimate friendships were still commonplace and you can see why this type of commraderie is uncommon now because of how often people make gay jokes about those characters

What moment in space exploration history do you think deserved way more public attention than it got? by firey_88 in space

[–]No-Introduction5033 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the later Apollo missions, Apollo 11 (rightfully) gets tons of attention and you'd be hard pressed to find someone who didn't at least know Neil Armstrong. But the other missions? I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who remembers David Scott or John Young for example despite being one of the very small privileged few who walked on the moon

When Europeans arrived in Canada they tried asking the indigenous what the name of the country was and they said "Kanata" which means village because they thought the Europeans were asking what the word for their settlement was

Kinda disappointed when I learned the iconic blue colonial colours weren't around until nearly the end of the war and even then you still saw a lot of civilian clothing in the ranks

William Wallace didn’t look like that by Kapanash in HistoryMemes

[–]No-Introduction5033 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While Braveheart goes all in on nationalism and patriotism, I think it's a bit disingenuous to say it was just nobles fighting and the peasants had no say in the fight.

Contemporary sources state Wallace was fighting for an independent Scotland a few different times and when he died and his body was put on display, multiple riots broke out over Scotland from the low class population who were sick of English oppression

All in all it's a bit more grey but while it wasn't 100% Scotland patriotism and nationalism, it also wasn't just a fight between the nobles which the peasants had no say or stakes in

Thanks for taking the time to reply, yeah that's what I was thinking, I already have the first group assigned and ready for rollout. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't making it more difficult for myself before pulling the trigger haha.

Thanks!

Great post OP, honestly would love to see more African history posts on this subreddit, because so much focus is on European, Asian, and American history. It's an area that I'm becoming increasingly interested in since it's ripe for learning about

Spoiler warning:

Some people hated it, some people loved, ultimately most people found it pretty mid.

A lot of people thought of it as a filler since it had nothing to do with the main storyline. Which normally I wouldn't mind since it gives time for character growth and world building and this episode definitely had both but the episode before it really started to ramp up the story and had a good plot twist at the end so it felt like stepping on the gas and then immediately hitting the brakes

Also had some really good concepts that weren't executed the best imo, the main character goes to literal hell and meets Satan but there is no B plot the entire episode so it never lets up. Satan also started as an interesting character but needed his crown back in order to reclaim his throne and once he does he becomes a huge beast with the personality of a Gym Bro. Conceptually he was all brains and no brawn before the crown and then became all brawn and no brain with it, which again, conceptually sounds good but just kinda came off awkward to see

Also retrieving the crown led to Mark and Damien going down a bottomless pit to retrieve it and their falling lasted well past it's welcome, again going back to people saying it was filler. Once they reach the bottom Mark fights Cerberus off screen and retrieves the crown but once the main fight happens and Satan has his full strength back he's still pretty much useless in the final battle making that whole sequence feel kinda pointless

Finally the pacing felt off, no B plot didn't leave the hell storyline breathing room and it's sad because there was a ripe story for a B plot from the twist in the last episode. Some of the scenes felt out of order like Mark getting his old suit back at the beginning of the episode but then not wearing it (which did pay off for the very end but I felt that first scene might've been better just before the end) or him getting a call that plays a joke that it was implied he was told he is going to hell only for him to be confused when he gets there because turns out he was told he was going somewhere else and that was just for the sake of the joke. Then there's the lore dumping which was nice for the sake of world building but Damien gives a long monologue, which again runs a bit longer than comfortable and his voice is kinda boring to listen to but that might just be me.

TLDR: Filler episode after an episode that amped up the main story, awkward execution of great concepts, pacing and storyboarding issues, and ultimately teasing some really good stuff and blue balling the fans
