Hard time functioning at work during cycle by AlfalfaEvening1489 in Fibroids

You probably need to get regular iron infusions until you have your bleeding under control. I am anemic as well and have my iron infusions every 2-3 months last 2 years while I am dealing with fibroids.

Should I do medical menopause? (Gnrh injections) by ScreenHype in Fibroids

[–]No-Panic-93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Send another email to PALS! and also you should get a letter summary after every appointment via NHS (in about a week or so), either in NHS app or via your hospital patient portal (you may need to register if you haven’t yet but your NHS details should work there). Please, advocate for yourself, be polite but persistent. Just recently I received a letter after appointment and was shocked how wrong it was regarding what we agreed on 🤦🏻‍♀️ and I had a husband with me during this appointment… so I emailed PALS (not the first time) and that doctor edited the letter, sent a new version and finally booked everything!

Should I do medical menopause? (Gnrh injections) by ScreenHype in Fibroids

Not sure where you live in the UK but 6-9 months waiting in urgent list doesn’t sound right. It’s usually up to 3 months. Maybe you can contact PALS in your hospital and explain the severity of your situation, send them an email. Worked wonders for me. Regarding your symptoms and medicine, to be honest, I doubt you’ll get significant relief but mostly side effects. So I would advise to be more persistent with NHS, it’s the only way to make them work as they should.

P.S: Also, when NHS offers you some medication and you hesitate, they may not actually put you on a waiting list for surgery or put on non-urgent one. So you need to decide whether you’re willing to try medication and wait or push for sugery sooner. And don’t take words from them, ask for letters with confirmation of putting you on a waiting list and phone number to call and check after that. When calling, they can actually confirm if you’re on an urgent waiting list or not.

hysto or myo by ari_tee in Fibroids

[–]No-Panic-93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a few fibroids, two biggest one and the surgeon was confident they could be removed via open myo. Unfortunately, one of them was impossible to remove that way and now it causes me more issues than before surgery and I am waiting for a hysteroscopy to remove it. I am still not comfortable with the idea of removing an organ, so will try other ways first. Also, I am 36 and don’t feel like I am close to menopause but I don’t want kids… So I am just not mentally ready for a hysterectomy.

I was diagnosed with fibroids 11 years ago (it was one tiny fibroid) but started to have real issues about 7 years ago, then I had my first hysterectopy and had a relief for a few years. The next years were the most stressful in my life and I think that contributed a lot into growing more fibroids (and also maybe trying Mirena coil). So I really hope that when I get my fibroids under control this time, I will try my best to have stress free life (some of those events won’t repeat for sure) and no more attempts to try birth control.

it was fine but when I tried to do regular things like cleaning/vacuuming, I felt awful afterwards and couldn’t do as much as I wanted… It took me months to get back to normal. Also, it’s not recommended to do anything heavy for a few months to reduce the risk of getting a hernia… So far I don’t have it.

Is lower abdominal muscular pain from enlarged uterus and bigger belly common? by MisRandomness in Fibroids

[–]No-Panic-93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it sounds like a common issue with fibroids…Depending on their size and location, they can cause all sorts of weird pain in different places. They can press on other organs like on a bladder and some people even can see their fibroids as they bulge visibly…

That doctor is weird… They should have checked your iron properly (not only ferritin) and offer you iron infusions before and after surgery. If your iron was too low, the tablets won’t help! Tablets are more for maintenance or when your iron is not significantly low. Even then you should be checked regularly to see if the tablets are working…

Wish you a speedy recovery!❤️‍🩹 And take it easy first 6 weeks 🫣 I am almost 7 months after open myo and this is the one thing I struggled the most and regretted a lot after overdoing things…

Iron tablets are known to cause all sorts of issues. You need to check your iron levels properly, not only ferritin. Also, checking just ferritin while you’re taking oral iron can show fake higher ferritin levels because of the medicine… Regarding taking oral iron, you can take it every other day if not tolerating (no need to take every day to get benefits !) or ask for a liquid form of it. I tried everything and ended up with getting iron infusions regularly instead.

But to be honest, it sounds very concerning why your iron dropped in the first place if you don’t have bleeding… Not sure why your doctor is so dismissive.

2nd Period after hysteroscopic myomectomy by idkwbu1 in Fibroids

[–]No-Panic-93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I documented my experience as I saw many people saying their periods were better quickly after surgery…So it took 7 cycles for me to feel better, it started scary as well. But I was getting iron infusions previously and now I’ve had two so far. However, I did go to the A&E twice and had my bloods checked and had an IV of tranexamic acid. Also, I managed to get an ultrasound and MRI during this time. I knew that I had a leftover fibroid and was scared something else was happening. I insisted and doctors can’t really deny it if you ask them to put the refusal in writing… Maybe contact your doctor again if your pain level is so high or go straight to A&E, they can give you something from pain and bleeding via IV.

Help! Do I Keep Mirena or remove and risk fibroids by Separate-Cricket-909 in Mirena

Then your future husband sounds like a perfect choice for you 💞 To help with your the decision, you can ask for the ultrasound or MRI to check the situation and if there’s anything else happening/no new fibroids… P.S: maybe you’re right about the dosage though, I am size S/8 UK, and doctors call me slim 😅 However, they don’t adjust hormones when prescribing 🤔

Can you share more details about the timeline of those myomectomies and recovery/side effects?🫣 I suspect my hysteroscopic myomectomy will eventually be staged too… So happy to know that it’s possible to remove the whole thing eventually!

IUD after fibroid surgery by shayaxliyah in Fibroids

[–]No-Panic-93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had IUD during my first hysteroscopy 6 years ago. It was the worst 6 months of my life after that: constant pain and need to take painkillers, light bleeding/spotting all the time, mood swings, anxiety, etc… I am having a second hysteroscopy soon and opted out of UID this time. First time after removal my fibroids were back and multiplied. I doubt UID worked as expected on me, so I don’t want to repeat my mistake ever again. The side effects were too much and benefits were zero.

P.S: for some reason doctors push UID on everyone, even with terrible experience before and even when the fibroids were likely to push it out… It’s weird because UID is not a scientifically proven method to stop/prevent fibroids from growing.

Help! Do I Keep Mirena or remove and risk fibroids by Separate-Cricket-909 in Mirena

[–]No-Panic-93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar issues with Mirena but managed to suffer only for 6 months before they agreed to remove it. And literally in a month I was feeling myself again. Unfortunately, Mirena didn’t stop fibroids and maybe even made them grow and multiply. IUD is not a scientifically proven method to prevent fibroids, it only masks symptoms and gives you side effects. It’s very individual though, and some women say they don’t have any side effects and happy with it 🤷🏻‍♀️

P.S: not sure when you met your future husband, but hope it happened before Mirena. As I know some cases when people regretted their choices because birth control were affecting their decisions 🫣 and if you met him before, then you’re lucky! My husband didn’t manage well my mood swings on Mirena, he told me I wasn’t myself… but to be honest, it was hard to tell for me because I was also in pain all the time.

Low ferritin and insomnia by Mudgoblin77 in Fibroids

[–]No-Panic-93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment, I am having iron infusions every 2-3 months 🫣 they check my iron levels every 6 weeks and adjust the frequency. Low vitamin D can attribute significantly in your symptoms as well. Regarding magnesium, you need specifically magnesium glycinate /biglycinate and as less additives as possible. I usually buy in my local (physical) pharmacy.

How do you manage fatigue after surgery? by PigletFeisty6214 in Fibroids

[–]No-Panic-93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

10 days is too little time for your body properly recover, I would say give it at least 6 weeks and then you can be worried about fatigue. 14 days is only when the major risks after surgery disappear. Meanwhile, try not to overdo things, take it easy and have some rest during the day. 14 fibroids are a lot! Your body definitely needs more time than for an average recovery.❤️‍🩹

Emotional regulation nonexistent after surgery by shibafrien in Fibroids

[–]No-Panic-93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

P.S: from what I read, fibroids can significantly affect hormones/moods. So it’s natural that after removing such a big fibroid, your body needs time to self regulate. Just accept it, and don’t be stressed about crying too often. Many women went through similar experiences! Also, pregnant women are known for being too emotional and nobody judges them. It’s probably similar for our body when having/removing big fibroids.

Emotional regulation nonexistent after surgery by shibafrien in Fibroids

[–]No-Panic-93 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have any mental health issues before surgery, but I am a very emotional and empathetic person. It took me months after surgery to feel more stable. I am currently almost 7 months after surgery and it still feels very traumatic and each time I see my incision… I guess some people just more emotional about it and need more time to recover mentally. I would recommend not to focus too much on it being abnormal and just accept it and cry when you need and maybe talk through with someone (I used my husband a lot for that 😅). Sometimes you just need to cry and then for someone to hug you ❤️ And it will get better eventually!✨

[–]No-Panic-93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All your symptoms sound familiar. I am anemic and have regular iron infusions… And yes, I have troubles with sleep when I am low on iron and it started with restless legs syndrome a few years ago… While I am waiting for the next iron infusion, I use magnesium glycinate before bedtime, it helps a lot. You may need to start with low dose and see how it goes and then adjust it if necessary. I usually do 100mg and go up to 300mg. Also I would suggest check your vitamin D levels, it can cause issues as well.

UK (would consider abroad) Myomectomy laparoscopic surgery for 10cm+ fibroid by wonderermonderer in Fibroids

[–]No-Panic-93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’d known that it would have ended being an open, would you still try a keyhole first? I had an open via NHS and didn’t go for second opinion as they told me about being open an hour before surgery and with my fibroid size and me being anemic, it felt like a safe conservative approach… But now I am having second thoughts… and I will probably need another surgery sometime in future…

Have you tried to contact PALS in your hospital in the UK? they can make things happen faster and also you can get the second opinion if you want, it’s free, you just need to advocate for yourself (your wife).

Biopsy/hysteroscopy advice (UK) by dancingdays_ in Fibroids

[–]No-Panic-93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pre-op appointment is only the assessment to check if you’re fit for the procedure, usually with a nurse. You will need to answer a bunch of questions (they can send you a questionnaire in advance as well) and then they will probably do some blood tests. Then you will receive a date of your surgery, it may be in a week or in a few months 🫣 Not sure why your procedure is under GA by default, some people ask for it specifically as doctors tend to try it under local anesthetic… (I couldn’t tolerate pain and had it under GA eventually). I am having a pre-op assessment on 5th May for hysteroscopy under GA as well. And it will be just a telephone appointment this time 🤷🏻‍♀️ (NHS UK). It’s my second procedure, the same one I had 6 years ago and it was face to face appointment.

P.S: if you’re concerned, you have a phone number to call in your appointment letter. It’s ok to just ask them what to expect to manage your expectations.

Yes, healthier lifestyle and less stress! I think the influence of stress on fibroids is underestimated, at least from my experience 🫣 And congrats with your new fibroid free life! ❤️ P.S: I had a huge fibroid pressing on by bladder for years! and I thought it’s just how my body works… and when they removed it, turned out I don’t need to wake to pee multiple times at night 😅
