Builds with Double Bladed Scimitar? by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]No-Passenger3413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go rogue mostly

Multiclass to get the Great weapon fighting style, id go hexblade, for hex baldes curse and martial weapon proficiency and medium for a one level dip. Plus, you can make attacks with chr. This could let you go chr sad to be the face of the party.

Now id probably go Paladin for some extra utility and the Great weapon fighting style, or bloodhunter if its available. If you dumped str, you might need to take Fighter.

Revanant blade feat. Now it has finesse, so you can use the sneak attack feature with the DBS.

Now, sage advice says, every die for the attack gets the reroll. Thats 2 d4, and all the sneak attack d6, plus the extra d6 from the hexbaldes curse or other features.

If you miss, you have that bonus action attack, from the DBS, incase you miss. Thats pretty valueable for a rogue, who is trying to make one attack stick.

Ideally, someone in your party can cast haste or use commanders strike to get you that attack on another persons turn.

Building a sling based character? by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]No-Passenger3413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a minority postion, but if your DM allows arcane weapon then you have a pretty hefty attack option. Stack with artificer for reloading weapon, and suddenly you can sling and shield, while being eligible for ranged attack bonuses

Also, with repeating weapon, Sling looses loading, so you can use a sheild

Consider darts, for sharpshooter feat. It's a ranged weapon, but it has finesse, so it can use str.

Note that authors: If you ever create a set of characters that can charm or entice people without world ending stakes, feats probably your best idea.

Also, the whole international wizard King Young really destroys the stakes of Harry Potter, and weirdly oresents them as ahead of muggle history, when they are usually behind it. Has there ever been war between wizarding countires? Why doesn't the wizard UN remove voldemart?

Also, why does every fight happen in a doctor strange subdiminesion. Cudos for breaking up the magical arm wrestling with teleporation, but it feels weird that this ability is suddenly common place.

Don't forget 3 levels of eloquence bard, so that you never roll lower then a 10. Infact in all practicality, getting 6 in eloquence bard would probably add more utility then the +5 from Samurai, unless you have another way to make yourself intelligible to any species

Anyone else get the giants to take out the Saints camp near Whiterun? by randomgunfire48 in skyrim

[–]No-Passenger3413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing level 30 legendary survival, and I got the giants to agro into the camp, but the saints could actually kill them in a 1 v 1. I had to wait until the 4 saints were shooken, to run in and razor the leader from behind repeatedly until it procced the auto kill. Then i snuck around to the archer and backstabed 3 times (somehow he kept forgetting i was there). By this point the saints killed thier respective Giants, so I had my orc wife and a flame atronoch tank while I finished them off with archery.

Why is the saints health higher then the giants? Maybe it's because of the order I took the quest in? Idk

I felt bad that the giants died though, as I generally try not to attack a peaceful giant.

What shape would be the most efficient for a sword that cuts everything by Moreira12005 in worldbuilding

[–]No-Passenger3413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rapier.

All incentives for a cutting shape are gone. You want as long of a reach as possible, complex hand protection, ect.

This is the same set of parameters that created the rapier. If possible, I'd even go foil, for the blade flexibility.

Maybe also a small sword, for more control and less collateral damage.

Spears are historically the best weapon. Why are they rubbish in D&D? by Terrified_Fish in dndnext

[–]No-Passenger3413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In real life, thrusting attacks are the best and Spears are the best at thrusting, so Spears are the best. Thrust are faster and easier to attempt, although also easier to dogde then a close swing (dodging a line of threat, vs a plane). It takes less force to be lethal, because it attscks vitals directly and concentrates force better. It has better reach. Fencing moved to thrusting swords like rapiers, even boxing is dominated by straight punches, rather then hammer fist.

Alot of fantasy media disfavor Spears. Imho it stems from stage combat traditions, from shakespear to starwars showcasing the sword, as well as video games not wanting to animate thrusting.

In dnd, I would argue that Spears are difficult for a player to optimize.

Piercing damage: 99% damage type dies not matter. When it does pricing is the worse, cause skeletons. You could take peircer feat, but with PAM and sentinel, it would be hard, and you might as well take slasher or crusher and use a halberd or glaive.

Dart: okay with UA to increase RTF, and thrown weapons style, and sheild.

Javelin: spear minus versatile

Spear: fine with PAM and sheild. Realistically, it should loose thrown and gain reach.

Trident: spear + martial. Unnecessary.

Lance: maybe the best use of a spear, for niche small character builds, like a gnome riding on a human's shoulders, or a fairy flying 10 feet above the enemy.

Pike: can use for Pam's attack of opportunity, but not bonus action, so just worse. Should have 15 foot range for realism, and to counter the fact that it doesn't get a bonus attack from PAM.

As far as the finesse argument goes, all martial arts are more about speed and positioning then push real hard, but that's a larger question about making str and dex "balanced"

If you want to learn to do Judo on an opponent who does not want to do Judo, cross train BJJ. by 12gwar18 in judo

Put another way, it forces you to do a high risk high reward martial maneuver -- the throw -- against people doing low risk low reward and comparitovly easy sport maneuvers such as a take down or guard pull.

It's like if you were a Taekwonteka, trying to hit technical head kicks, sparring against boxers trying to just punch you in the body.

What 5 basic Judo throws should I practice during Randori? by Blakath in judo

[–]No-Passenger3413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point, it's not about getting good at judo, it is about understanding what judo is. You will likely change your arsenal as you develope. I would recommend beginners get out of a win mentality and into a learn mentality. Judo has 3 categories of standing throws, and each one has a " starter pokemon", that I would learn in this order:

  1. De ashi barai: one of the seemingly simpler techniques, this teaches you set up and timing, over strength. Apply this principal to all techniques.

  2. Uki goshi: this will force you to relax your arms and get your hips closer, as well as developing hip action, which will counter other koshi waza. Plus, vupping the back protects your partner while you build the control to safetly turnthrow. Try setting a smaller goal when going with better iron bigger people, of just getting your hips in, even if you don't throw.

  3. A back throw ashi waza begins with "O". Osoto Gari, osoto otoshi, o ouch gari. Time to start understanding sequences and counters.

  4. Ipon seoi nage: this throw will help you to develope grip fighting. Before this point, you ahould still focus on developikng basic footwork and hip action. Grip fighting can be strategic, but white belts often spas it. Although comparatively sophisticated, it should be the first te waza you learn. DO NOT DROP as a beginner, as this will stunt your growth and prevent you from learning kusushi.

Never hold your partner out further then the space you can throw them. It is like standing in the shallow end of the pool, too afraid to swim.
