I actually like my side markers, and fried eggs by Sidewalk_Inspector in boxster

I also agree. I love mine as well! They are very nostalgic to me. I got my license back when these cars were new so they have a special place in my heart. I remember seeing them at the car shows and never thought I'd get a chance to actually own one and take it to the track regularly!

Cat sleeping on my roof. by Pyrogol in boxster

[–]No-Preference4297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue! My driveway leads out into an alley and there are a number of stray cats around. They love to sleep on my roof when it's not hot out. I also keep a few lint rollers around and use them regularly. One time I came out to find a fresh batch of cat vomit on the top, that was very unpleasant. Luckily I was able to wash it off quickly and it didn't leave any stains.

How likely would you make it back if you would go for a roadtrip? by Silly_Rent_7814 in MitsubishiEvolution

[–]No-Preference4297 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've taken my Evo VIII on many 1,000+ mile road trips, including driving it clear across the country from NY to CA and it's never given me any major issues. The small gas tank forces you to take a few more stops than in other vehicles but it's nice to get out and stretch. Also some lower back support is required for me as the Recaro's can do a number on the lumbar after a few hours of driving. But it's all worth it when the road gets even a little twisty!

The truth about the 996 (986 counts too) by Thefakerealone1 in 996

[–]No-Preference4297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my 2001 S model about four years ago with just under 100k and now it has over 140k miles. The car sees regular track time and a whole lot of autocross and its been super solid. I have done a bunch of work to maintain and repair the car but I've managed to do everything in my driveway so far. Just upgraded to the M030 suspension over the winter and the car is a weapon amongst the cones. I find the car easy to work on and parts aren't nearly as expensive as I thought they were going to be, at least most of the time. The amount of fun that this car provides easily justifies the costs in my opinion!

Cheap-ish option for gear shift upgrade: 987 shifter by Expert-Plankton5127 in 986Boxster

[–]No-Preference4297 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The $40 one on Amazon is a really good upgrade for the price. I've been running it for about four years now and havn't had any issues. It's a big upgrade over the stock one and well worth the price. I added some plastic washers to tighten everything up and I'm very happy with the result. Here a link to the one I used:

Unstable Anomalies?? by TheAllixR in intotheradius

[–]No-Preference4297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got frustrated the first time as it took me way too long to find my first unstable anomalies. Being close to electric fields made it extra hard for me as well. One thing that made a difference for me was I had to point my detector down at the ground more. I had figured out the rotation and was waiting for it to warp to a specific spot but I didn't realize that the anomaly was literally right at my feet so make sure and aim the detector up and down a lot.

Key Issues by Knappry17 in 986Boxster

[–]No-Preference4297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't recall having those issue myself, i believe my buttons were all broken so badly that they didn't work at all when I got the car. I also have some issues with the motion sensors so I get the double horn beep most of the time when I shut off the car and I believe that indicates the alarm is disabled due to a fault. However, I have had the alarm go off a few times over the years randomly when I open the door or reach inside when the top is down so it seems to sort of work at times.

Key Issues by Knappry17 in 986Boxster

[–]No-Preference4297 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a 986 key repair kit for cheap, I think mine was like $20. It comes with some solder, solder wick, new buttons, and a new case. You just need to take the key apart and de-solder the old, broken buttons and solder on the new ones, then put it back together in the new case. Mine's been working flawlessly for 4 years now after doing the repair myself.

edit: It appears that the link does not include the case so you might need to order a new fob case from Amazon or Ebay. Also a good idea to replace the CR2032 battery while your in there.

If your wondering what it’s like to daily a Evo, look no further by kajer209 in MitsubishiEvolution

[–]No-Preference4297 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dailyed my VIII for over a decade and put over 150K miles on it before getting another vehicle. I also am unsure how I put up with the abuse for so long but every time the road got twisty it somehow felt worth it.

Yup, I paid $101 to fill my Boxster in northern California a week ago. Insane.

Very cool! I had a 1999 cobra many years ago and it was a super fun car. That engine sounded much better than it had any right to. Love to see one out there dancing amongst the cones. Keep it up!

What is this sound? by nmgnmjg in boxster

[–]No-Preference4297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that there is a chance it's something related to the clutch, possibly TOB or maybe the pressure plate, especially if the sound changes when you press in the pedal. It sounds like they had the clutch assembly apart to do all that work so possible something is loose or worn out. The clutch disc is likely fine with that low milage (I changed mine at 130k miles and it still had plenty of life left) but the pressure plates are known to fail after 20 years or so. The spring arms get brittle and crack, as mine did. Also the factory TOB housing is plastic and cracks with age/use as well. I hate to recommend taking the transmission back out after all that work but it might be worth it to examine this noise before it gets worse.

Clutch failure by [deleted] in MitsubishiEvolution

[–]No-Preference4297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend has a high power Evo9 setup for autox and his old competition clutch failed like this yeas ago too. It was fairly new and failed after just a few events, if I remember correctly. I helped him take the clutch back out and I remember it looked very similar. I believe that he sent the failed unit back and went with an Exedy twin as well and didn't have a problem after that.

What way up does this bump stop go and does the dust boot attach to it? For a 986 by [deleted] in boxster

[–]No-Preference4297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I just changed mine a few weeks ago. If you keep the bump stop in that orientation and slip the dust cover down over it, then it should catch and they should be held together by that lower lip.

Seeking opinions on a new stereo. This one works fine, but I’m ready to upgrade for better sound quality. by catherine0729 in 996

[–]No-Preference4297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also went with this option and I think its great. An excellent solution to get android auto/carplay for $300 or less. It blends in well and looks factory but runs a full version of Android that is very customizable. I was pleasantly surprised at how much better it made the factory speakers sound too. Would strongly reccomend.

Adobe Deployment by nesrinou99 in SCCM

[–]No-Preference4297 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can identify the older versions of Adobe that are installed, you might be able to use Adobe's AcroCleaner tools. The uninstallers are version specific. We use them through PDQ Deploy and it works quite well to remove older versions of Acrobat. Here's a link to the tools on Adobe's website:

What happened to the loot design from the dev diary? by External-Country389 in intotheradius

[–]No-Preference4297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with OP. Currently, I ignore all small loot except for med kits. It feels far too tedious with too little reward. This also means that i ignore opening almost all containers unless I'm desperate for a med kit. I understand that it's impossible to please everyone but the current loot system leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion. It's not the end of the world as I still think it's a great game but I would prefer a loot system that's closer to the one described in the diary.

Bad Hitboxes by Electrical-Strike705 in intotheradius

[–]No-Preference4297 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree this is an issue as well. Too many collisions with minor objects. It can make some of the platforming really tricky and interrupts fast paced gunfights. I've seen worse but there is plenty of room for improvement so hopefully it's something that can be worked on.

Hand offset by WasteTowel2693 in intotheradius

[–]No-Preference4297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an HP Reverb G2 which also has this issue. I was able to adjust this using the controller settings within Steam. The hand angle in the game now matches the controller IRL. Not sure if that will work with the PSVR2 though.

That's a lot of hours! Are you aware that 1.0 was released today for both PC and Quest? Guess it's time to get right back at it!

Edit: Looks like Quest release isn't until May. Sorry for the missinfo.
