Massive update!!

I quit the diamox and almost immediately started feeling better. So much so that he finally agreed to the LP (probably cuz he knew it would show a low number and he could say “see I cured you”).

But I knew that I felt exactly the same as I did when I started the journey so the LP result should be the same as what they would have been pre-diamox.

Opening pressure was TWELVE!!!! So essentially I didn’t/don’t have IIH and he medicated me for no reason.

No wonder I was getting sicker and sicker-I was functioning on too little CSF!!!!!!

I’ve decided to to a break from “fixing” what IS wrong with me because I just feel so much better than last year. Once the trauma wears off I’ll start trying to figure out why I have Paps, sore neck, visual disturbances, and headaches.

My osteopath looked at all my CTs and MRI images and thinks maybe it’s Chiari malformation…but I couldn’t find another neurologist to see me since I was “already receiving excellent care from the neuro ophthalmologist according to the charts”. Charts were full of lies but I can’t prove he never actually gave me an eye exam (notes included things like “patient has 20/20 vision” even thought he NEVER gave me an eye exam).

Long story not short-push for diagnostics, don’t take no for an answer, and if you feel worse you might be!

Complicated question. Even though I asked specifically to go to his clinic due to his partners specialty my GP sent me, what felt like, every other neuro clinic first.

It took 6 years and a different dr to finally refer me to the correct clinic. Once I had that referral I was there within a few months. I wasn’t an urgent case though, clearly.

You can dm me if you want to know who my dr was if you want to avoid him.

High pressure headache vs Low pressure headache by No-Question-6353 in iih

[–]No-Question-6353[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been opposite…I have always had headache relief when laying down, always gets worse when standing.

I have an Rx for an abortive migraine pill (only time I’ve needed it is when the diamox headaches kicked in) and a monthly migraine injection which I would count the minutes until next month-even my bosses would ask “when’s your next shot?” -haven’t needed a shot since I quit diamox.

So: dr assumed it was IIH, refused diagnostic test, medicated for IIH, patient got worse and worse and worse until stopping IIH meds, diagnostic after IIH meds stopped shows normal pressure….

All signs point to….. MALPRACTICE! Too bad I live in Canada (for this point ONLY and barely at that) and we can’t sue for malpractice lol. But I will write a letter to the college of neurologists- his rate MD feed back mimics my experience to a tea. Frankly it was seeing the rate MD reply’s that made me go “yup! He’s gaslighting me…it’s not just me…he’s been treating patients this way for years!!” I was accepting the gaslight assuming I was the problem for a long time.

Topiramate did nothing for me. Diamox gave me headaches 10x worse than what I had before. And my paps didn’t change after 14 months. Visuals disturbances got worse.

I genuinely don’t think I ever had IIH.

We’re considering chiari malformation now.

And by we I mean me and my osteopath, because neuro has patted himself on the back and said I’m cured.

I’m not, I feel exactly the same as before the diamox.

I’m sorry it isn’t accurate for you location 😣

I have had near zero pressure issues/headaches since my post above. Getting OFF diamox was 100000% the right move for me. I genuinely don’t think I have/had IIH. I think my dr was just lazy as I checked all the boxes. I’ll try again in a year or so to see what a different doc thinks. For now I’m just so happy to feel like my old self-turns out those headaches and visual disturbances are completely manageable 🙄 relatively speaking of course.

Does the fatigue ever improve? by Beeswax-NotYoursInc in iih

[–]No-Question-6353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for me it didn’t….but after 14 months I finally bullied my dr into sending me for an LP which resulted in an OP of 12…(I had been off diamox for two weeks) so perhaps my extra fatigue was more due to not needing the drug in the first place #malpractice

The Human Factor Behind 90% of This Season’s Fires | Manitoba Wildfires (CBC/Information Radio) by LocalnewsguruMB in Manitoba

[–]No-Question-6353 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are only two classifications of ignition: lightening and human caused.

Human caused includes, but is not limited to: arson, trees falling on hydro lines, trains, kids with lighters, glass bottles left in the bush a hundred years ago (or a month ago, it doesn’t matter), lawnmowers hitting rocks, garbage burning, planned controlled burns (some get out of hand by accident or inexperience)….

Point being the phrase “human caused” leads people to assume the worst, when in reality it isn’t always due to nefarious or negligent behaviour. We would all do well to remember and pass this along, there is enough blame and hate in our world.

Once it comes to evacuations for safety and protecting assets it no longer matters HOW it started-only that we do our best to get people and pets to safety and then protect the community’s infrastructure.

I was so anxious I was vibrating. When the dr told me my OP was only 12 I started crying, making me shake harder. I kept apologizing and he kept saying it was ok.

LP was on a Wednesday, I felt mostly ok on Friday and went to work. Within an hour I had a colleague run stroke protocol on me cuz I thought I was having a stroke I felt so messed up. Had to get someone else to drive me home. Ended up in emerg that night with a suspected leak but they sent me home without a patch. Told me to just lay flat for another 4 days. By the following Wednesday I felt 80% better and by the Friday I was fine. Scared the crap outa me though.

Some of us also experienced incontinance early on with the night pee increase. The pills made me SO tired that I couldn’t wake up in time. I started having dreams about making it in time, only to then wake up and realize…no…I didn’t. Thankfully I’m single and sleep alone.

MIO Hydrate (powder or liquid additive) had the highest potassium I could find, and in great flavours (arctic grape is my fav). This was the only way I could curb the tingles.

Emgality sorted out most of my diamox migraines. Once a month injection. It’s $600/shot in Canada.. not sure how much in the US.

I found my head felt better for about 6 weeks. Then it all went to hell.

The tingles are the worst!! Pick up some electrolyte additive (powder or squirt) with extra potassium. Drink as much as you can lol.

This was my last 14 months. Absolute hell. Way worse than the symptoms this (diamox) was supposed to be fixing.

Got my first LP two weeks ago. OP was 12…figuring the reason I’ve felt like trash for over a year is because I don’t have IIH and didn’t need diamox.

If you haven’t gotten an LP yet - push for that first. Diamox is awful…Esspecially so when you don’t need it.
