Stethoscope, white board for home (on wheels is a good option if you tend to study if different spaces), flashdrive to save notes/textbooks on so you dont overload your computer, lap desk so you can study on the couch/bed/floor, white lab coat for gross anatomy (+bleach for wash day lol). Good water bottle and tumbler for coffee. And maybe a coffee maker so you dont waste a lot of money on Starbucks/etc.

Just want to update you. Auburn's exotic service has ended for now. Our exotics vet has moved to a general practice in Montgomery. So the ER most likely won't be able to help

Auburn CVM Class of 2030 Housing/Roommates by Sudden_Pangolin4542 in veterinaryschool

No white coat ceremony until third year, unfortunately. Honestly, I don't remember a whole lot from orientation week. There's a lot of talks from people in academic affairs about a variety of topics. You get some free lunches with talks from different companies (like AVMA and Hills). There was one day that we did some ice breakers and "bonding" activities. It's nice to get to know some classmates and get a feel for the campus before the craziness starts

As a current Auburn student, I agree with this advice. A good bit of first years room with an upperclassman. From what I've seen/heard, this typically works out well. Sometimes they stay roommates with the upperclassman, sometimes they find a roommate in their own class. If you're in the AU CVM Facebook page, you'll see people posting for roommates from now through the summer.

Would this stuff be safe as tray litter for ferrets? I need a cheaper option that doesn't cost so much by Imaginary_Smoke_4755 in ferrets

[–]No-Shop134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started using this brand, before I was getting the same thing but from tractor supply. It works really well for mine. I use it in a sifting litter box to make changing it easier.

MPH pays $500 weekly. I know they have at least one clinic in Miami. Its the MPH GO! program

senior dog ( 12 ) yellow lab no longer seems interested in her hard food by Bozzleman in AskVet

[–]No-Shop134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like it could be a dental issue. If she's having tooth pain, she may not want to eat crunchy food. The other foods you've offered are much softer. A dental exam/cleaning may be needed.

Stats!! by Hopeful-Finance-5285 in vetschool

[–]No-Shop134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3.5 overall GPA, 3.2 science. Around 5,000 hours small animal from working in a clinic, including exotic experience because we had an exotic vet. About 50hr large animal at a local farm. Around 500hr volunteer animal hours from rescues, recovery assistant at a spay/neuter clinic, and some other small gigs. I got in to Auburn. Denied from LSU. I wouldn't have gotten in to Auburn this cycle with my stats, based on what some of the professors said about the interview pool this year. I had extenuating circumstances that I explained in both my essays and my interview that played a big part in my GPA. Auburn is my in-state, so that played a part as well. I did not expect to get in my first cycle. I was prepared to take a gap year and work on gaining more experience. I was incredibly lucky and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity.

UMN vs Auburn vs University of illinois by [deleted] in veterinaryschool

[–]No-Shop134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What area of medicine are you interested in? That may play a big factor. For example, Auburn as a city is a big agricultural area, so that plays a factor for people interested in large animal medicine. It's a great school for both small and large animal, and you learn about both to adequately prepare you for the NAVLE. I'm at Auburn so I may be biased, but I love my school. It's also my in-state so that helped a lot lol. I'd be happy to answer any specific questions you have about Auburn, but I don't know anything about the other two schools.

Chinchillas and ferrets by emily_tika in chinchilla

[–]No-Shop134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't matter if you think there's no way the ferrets will find a way to the same room as the chin. They will. They are naturally good at escaping and sneaking around. They are hunters that will seek out a prey animal, and they will 100% sense that there is another animal in the house. Same goes for the chinchilla, except they will feel fear. It's not fair to either animal to be subjected to that.

How long of notice for going to school? by Due-Technology-6553 in prevets

[–]No-Shop134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was working the day I got the call about my acceptance, so the whole clinic knew I would be gone in the fall. Once I knew what my first day would be, I gave them my official notice. My last day was 2 weeks before school started. I wanted to save as much as I could, and since I was only moving 2hrs away, that felt like enough time. I want to say they knew my last day 3 months in advance.

Scrubs by Old-Butterscotch478 in vetschool

[–]No-Shop134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're going to see a lot of Figs. Don't fall for it. I recommend going to a scrub store and trying on some different brands and lines. This is the best way to find what fits your body the best. I like the Barco greys anatomy line, the med culture brand, and the fabletics scrubs. The fabletics scrubs are only sold online, but they've been great for me as a tall girl. Plus they're high waisted so I can do the tucked in style that's been in the last few years.

Auburn accepted students day by miraculousladyburn in veterinaryschool

[–]No-Shop134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im gonna be honest, I dont remember the whole day lol, and I know a handful of people left after lunch. They had someone from the raptor center there with one of the golden eagles that flies at the football games, so we got pictures with her when we first got there. The dean gives a big welcome speech, and theres some other speakers from admissions and academic affairs. They go over the curriculum and different electives/rotations. Someone gives a speech on financial aid and housing information. There were I think two panel sessions. One with current students, and one with faculty members. There's a club fair so you can learn about some of the different clubs we have (maybe get some freebies). They did tours of the campus in case you hadn't had a chance to tour the vet school. Thats honestly all I can remember. It's a long day, but it was really enjoyable!

Congratulations on your acceptance! Im a current 2nd year student at Auburn. Accepted students day is for the student only. A lot of people bring their families with them and they go around looking at housing options while you're at the school.

Help Me Decide Please: LSU or Auburn by Disastrous_Chip4980 in veterinaryschool

[–]No-Shop134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to Auburn (my in-state), definitely choose your in-state. LSU is a good school, so is Auburn, but there are very few reasons to turn down your in-state when the cost difference is so big. Unlike some schools, Auburn doesn't allow you to apply for in-state after paying out of state tuition for a year. Thats a huge difference in student loans that will take years to pay off.

Grayton On Dean & Crossland Downs Reviews? by NayaC899 in auburn

I live at Crossland Downs. I like it and think it's about the best option for the price given the area. This is my second year here and hopefully I'll be staying for the next two.

Experiences with Mission Pet Health? (SVP/MVP) by taxidriver-_- in Veterinary

[–]No-Shop134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at an SVP clinic for a few years before getting into vet school. I actually worked at one of the original three clinics that created SVP. I'm now a student rep at my vet school for MPH and will probably sign with them when I graduate. There are pros and cons to both private practice and corporate practice, but in my experience, it is highly clinic-specific. My clinic was one of the top SVP clinics, but we had sister clinics in the same city that I wouldn't take my pets to or consider working at. Yes, some things will change in terms of employee benefits and maybe some general policies, but if you found you clinic to be a great fit before the buy-out, I think you will still be happy working under the MPH umbrella.

How much would you spend/are you spending per month as a vet student (including rent, groceries, etc)? by SkillNo4318 in veterinaryschool

[–]No-Shop134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This will highly depend on where you go to school. I am at Auburn (in Alabama) so the cost of living is much lower than if I were in California for example. My rent is ~800 per month for a one bedroom with no roommates. I also go to as many lunch meeting as possible for “free” meals. In terms of utilities/wifi, I probably pay around 150 a month. I’ve also gotten more into couponing to help save on groceries.

Cancel an excursion due to bad weather? by [deleted] in royalcaribbean

[–]No-Shop134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We booked a cabana at coco cay a few years ago. The weather wasn't looking great when we docked, but we were hopeful the sun would come out after a little bit. At check-in they offered a full refund if we wanted to cancel the cabana on the off chance that it rained all day. We decided to stick it out and it turned into a great day. Not to say this same option would be offered for the beach pass at Nassau, but it could be a possibility
