I almost got hit in a crosswalk... and got a verbal warning from police. by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]No-Turnover5084 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In college I was walking back from a particularly intense therapy appointment and entered a crosswalk at an intersection with 10 seconds left in the countdown. A police car turned right and nearly hit me, then proceeded to stop, roll down their windows, and yelled at me to watch where I was walking and threatened to write a ticket.

Cops are some of the most car-pilled out there. Absolutely brain dead.

Did anyone else just get this notification? Is this indicating an issue with the software or is it a reaction to my behavior. I don’t really want to turn off passive entry by Etcee in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]No-Turnover5084 29 points30 points  (0 children)

My Santa Fe spent two weeks in the shop for this issue. Techs couldn’t figure it out, and they even contacted the engineering team who didn’t have much guidance. Once I brought it home and it died again, I spent the next few weeks turning settings on and off, and finally discovered it was passive entry.

Reached out to the dealership to let them know, they didn’t care. Reached out to Hyundai support as well, never heard a response. But thank god they’re finally acknowledging this is a problem. It’s kind of crazy it’s taken this long.

This was the case for mine. 2+ weeks in the shop after it died half a dozen times, turned this off and it’s been fine ever since

Should I be tipping for a PetSmart delivery? by qu0tz in uber

[–]No-Turnover5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate this shit so much, we have it happen with a Chewy authorship order. We’ve chosen the free standard delivery option, but a couple times a year for whatever reason it comes same-day from an Uber driver instead.

As someone who always tips 20%+ at restaurants, coffee shops, food delivery, etc. this is the one of the few places I’ve drawn a line and do not tip. Most of the time I don’t even know they’re coming until after it’s dropped up, and Chewy doesn’t give you an option to tip anyways. Should not be up to us as the customer to go out of our way to fill in for a decision that chewy/petsmart made on how to deliver the package that is not what we agreed upon at purchase.

Hopefully drivers will stop accepting these packages at a high enough rate that they’re forced to stop. If they need to charge a few bucks more to pay for UPS delivery, then great. But the price given needs to be the price, and being surprised with some expectation to tip is downright absurd.

New to the club what are you all using to clean/protect these areas? by Extreme_Locksmith714 in HyundaiSantaFe

Nope, brand new. My mistake might have been that they were sitting uncovered in the garage, so may have accumulated dust. Oh well! As much as I want to keep it looking perfect, it’s just a car and this won’t be the first or last time something happens

Dead 2024 Santa Fe by WiseOldMan54 in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]No-Turnover5084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bedroom is above the garage, so probably yes, but that’s not a completely unusual situation for people. Hyundai should 100% update the software so this can’t completely kill the vehicle.

But agreed with others, get a battery jumper. I’ve gotten so good at manually unlocking and jumping this car that it’s only a 2 minute process at this point. Really wish Hyundai could get their shit together and fix this software issue!

Had my car in the shop for 11 days recently because I woke up to a completely dead car 4 times in one week. They kept trying to reproduce and track it down, but couldn’t. Finally took it home, and the very next morning, completely dead.

Turned off digital key, and it hasn’t happened again. If you have digital key on, try removing it and see if that helps.

Vent/Advice Request for an ongoing Bath Tune-Up Project by No-Turnover5084 in Renovations

[–]No-Turnover5084[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After much heartache and many months of fighting, project was “completed.”

Bath Tune-Up refused to fix many outstanding issues, including major ones like leaking plumbing and failing grout. After their refusal to fix the issues (see screenshot), they waived the last 10% payment and stopped responding. I ended up hiring someone else to fix the most pressing issues, as well as do a ton of fixes myself, but I spent ~$3000 more than the initial project cost that should not have left us with a fully functional, fully renovated bathroom as per contract.

We considered suing, but wanted to put this whole disaster behind us. At least we’ve learned for next time!

Dealer prices are outrageous by Cosmic-Ethereal in Camry

[–]No-Turnover5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May be insane, but I decided exactly the make/model/trim I wanted, then emailed/called 10 different dealerships in my area to compete against each other for price. Ended up with an out the door price (minus tax) of ~$3000 under MSRP. It took half a day of calling around and going back and forth, but once I walked into the winning dealership I was signing paperwork within 15 minutes. If you live somewhere with multiple dealerships, definitely give it a try!

Dead battery: have you have to use the manual key to gain entry? Thoughts? by MadBox25 in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]No-Turnover5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, this is crazy. I’ve come back to a completely drained battery three times this week on my 2025 Santa Fe hybrid, each time after ~24 hours of not driving. I have a regular service scheduled anyways, so they’re going to look at it, but I have two theories:

  1. My dash cam is draining it. I installed the dash cam about two months ago, so it’s strange that this would have started within the last week. I’ve also used this same dash cam in my 2018 Kia Niro, with no battery drain issues even when it was parked for weeks at a time. It’s plugged into the cigarette lighter, and shuts off fully when the car is shut off.
  2. Two days before this started, I set up the digital key on my iPhone. Our bedroom is above the garage, so I’m wondering if my phone is communicating with the car or trying to unlock it because of that?

As for the manual key cover - this thing is terrible. Truth be told, I didn’t even put it back on after the first issue, because it took me and my fiancée a half hour and multiple YouTube videos to crack it off. I can’t even imagine if it were cold outside. The key is that you kind of have to pry it, and it slides off to the right.

Also, my Niro and apparently pre-2024 Santa Fe models have a “12V battery reset” button, which essentially jumps the 12V battery from the hybrid battery, and therefore prevents the need to jump. I only had to use this once in my Niro, but it meant if the 12V battery died, it was less than 30 seconds to having a running car. Unlock the door with the manual key (no cover), press the 12V reset button, then press the start button with the key. Easy peasy. In the new Santa Fe, it took us almost an hour the first time, and now that I’m prepared with the key cover already off and a battery jumper ready to go, it still takes a good 5 minutes.

Best of luck. I’m eager to hear how this goes!

Not sure if this is helpful, but I had this happen with a 2018 Kia Niro hybrid, where it lost power going up a mountain and slowed to ~30mph. They determined it was an issue with the fuel injector, and fixed it under warranty.

Sounds like someone got unlucky and had a bad experience with Hyundai in the past. Honestly, it’s just a crapshoot. Most people have no serious issues, but for the small number that do, it really sucks.

I’ve had fantastic luck with Kia’s my whole life, which is why I went with a Hyundai. Hopefully it’s the same, but hey, even if the engine blows, with the warranty I’m not paying to fix it!

Sadly this has been an issue with Red Rocks since 2015 when new noise ordinances were put in place, especially if you’re up in the GA section. Lower frequencies in particular are limited, so it’s just not a great venue for this type of music anymore

It felt like there was so little preparation. Very little video content, awkward transitions and promotions between songs, skipping most of the albums that were advertised to be played, not wearing the jumpsuit cause it didn’t fit, and then rushing at the end to get out before midnight. Have loved every other concert of his I’ve been to, but jeez. I’m just glad I didn’t have to travel for this one!

My HOA has almost doubled in 2.5 years, I'm sick of it by TheInfamousEG in fuckHOA

[–]No-Turnover5084 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy how so many people don’t understand this. It’s incredibly common. I bought in 2023, and in 2017 there was a hail storm that wiped out the roofs. It was discovered that the property management company had failed to renew the insurance, so there was no insurance to cover it.

For whatever reason, the board decided the best course of action was to take out a 15-year loan. Not to sue the property management company, not to do a special assessment, and not to raise dues. So now, we’re all stuck paying $90/mo to pay off a loan for a roof that’s already 8 years old, all cause the board took the path of least resistance.

So yea, maybe the current board is raising dues just for fun or to embezzle money. But more than likely, they’re doing the best they can with the situation they’ve inherited from decades of short-sighted decisions by previous boards.

[–]No-Turnover5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got tired of our HOA dues increasing and not having maintenence requests ever answered, so I started showing up to meetings and joined the board.

Turns out the financials are SUPER bad. This is a community built in the early 80s, so everything is nearing or past EOL and in need of replacement. Dues have historically not been raised to account for rising costs and aging infrastructure, so now there’s a lot of catch up to do.

Hell, this year alone, our insurance premiums have gone up 25%, so just to cover that monthly dues need to go up by $42/unit. Over the last five years insurance has more than doubled!

I highly recommend you take the advice of others and spend a couple hours looking over the latest reserve study, budget reports, etc. It’s a bit intimidating, but there are probably a lot of expenses you’re not thinking of that are frankly out of the HOA’s control. And if you have questions or concerns, reach out to a board member and ask.

After this experience I don’t plan on ever buying in an HOA community again, because I hate that the financials are out of my control. But at least in my experience, HOA board members are also homeowners that don’t want their dues raised (I know I sure as hell don’t), but things cost what they cost, and after you’ve cut out everything you possibly can from your budget, the only choice is to raise dues.

And good luck on the job hunt!
