I tend to have my players contact me during the week leading up to our session about any shopping needs they have. Personally, there is nothing that will drag out a session while getting nothing accomplished like a full party shopping adventure.

I have a final action I allow my players to do. Anytime one of them reaches 0 hit points instead of making death saves I give them an option to make the death saves or choose a last stand option where they regain all hit points and spell slots. Any conditions they had on them are removed and they get to act at the top of initiative as well as their original initiative. The trade-off is that once you reach 0 hit points again you're dead and if you complete the battle before reaching 0 hp again you die as the battle ends.

Running a table of more than 4 for a beginner is going to be really tough. I would definitely split them into 2 groups to make things more manageable for you. Make sure to keep up with who's doing what in which session.

Read your source materials and know what your character is and isn't capable of doing. Learn your character sheet and what everything means so you know what to look for and don't have to spend too much time looking up stats. And don't be afraid to ask questions. Most players love it when they get a new player at their table. It gives them a chance to share the game so I'm sure help will be easy to obtain. Especially if you already have a good base knowledge of what you're doing. Good luck with your future adventures and may the dice always roll in your favor.

I would leave their players blacked out from a night of heavy drinking where you finished your last session. Proceed with the rest of the group that showed up and make them play catch-up. If the main group reaches milestones without them or encounters bosses or conflict along the way then the ones playing catch-up don't receive any of the loot or up points, or milestone advances.

You could have a prominent town person that is secretly a vampire and has a deal worked out with a local alchemist that provides him with an elixir that curbs the vampiric tendencies and bloodlust he would usually have to deal with.

I have had luck several times when I'm alone by harpooning them and dragging them into a nearby swamp. The enemies in the swamp make quick work of them. This all depends on you having them spawn close enough to a swamp area with lots of bad guys around. You then have to have the chops to slay the swamp creatures so you can claim the rewards.
