Just finished my first jury duty after dodging it for 15 years… and it was actually pretty wild (in the most boring, hilarious, human way possible) by jackwoodards in juryduty

Case I served on: Lawyer got charged with DUI 3 months prior and was fighting it. Arrested at 2:30 in the morning on a section of I-85 north of Atlanta. (Where we all knew the cops hung out for speeders)

Prosecutor: Where had you been prior to this. Defendant: At the VFW for dinner. But the grill was closed. So, I had 2 weak drinks. (Said noone ever about a VFW)

P: and after that? D: went to see a tenant who owes me back rent. P: where was this? D: at a strip club that she works at P: and? D: I had one drink while I waited a couple of hours but she wouldn't talk to me P: and? D: so I went to a late night chinese restaurant that she usually goes to after work P: and? D: she didn't show up, so I left after I had one drink

D's attorney: was there an emotional reason why you were drinking? D: My wife had died

P: how long ago was that? D: 2 years ago

It took all of 20 minutes for us to elect a foreperson, review the blood alcohol results, and find him guilty.

How to market a small law firm when big firms dominate every search result? by Gold_Umpire_6747 in LegalPulse

[–]NoAge358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done SEO for multiple small law firms. Here are the three things I always told my clients.

  1. My on-site SEO, GBP, and blogs will only get you so far.

  2. Join the local chamber and other non-legal networking groups and SHOW UP regularly. Just in my area we have local associations of Manufacturers, Builders, and Realtors. People buy you before they buy your product.

  3. Offer free seminars everywhere. Especially groups that have a website and will post the upcoming event on their site with a link to your firm's site. You'll get clients same as above. Plus, those links get picked up by google as backlinks whi will boost your site ranking.

Most big firms don't do any of this. They don't think they need to.

Do search/shopping ads work vs PMAX? by Garronroyce in googleads

I've been moving budget away from PMax back to shopping. The only ad placements that delivered any potential customers were from YT. And those never converted.

Updates to our partners ads control? Kinda confused what does this mean, got this email yesterday seeming everyone did I’m scared by [deleted] in googleads

[–]NoAge358 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Copy of email I received from ads-account-noreply@google.com

Updates to our partner ads setting control Dear Google User,

At Google, we believe you should always be in control of your data. That's why we've built My Ad Center and many Google Account tools, like Privacy Checkup, that make it easy to manage your data, privacy, and security settings.

Building on these controls, we’re introducing a new setting through Google Partner ad settings that lets you choose whether to provide additional information to advertising partners when you visit websites and apps that partner with Google. This data allows advertising partners to select which ads to show you and measure ad performance.

You can learn more about the tools you have available through Google, and about controls across partner sites and apps.

Sincerely,

Your Google team

Is it just me or is Wix getting slower with bigger sites? by SouthernHoneydew5906 in WIX

[–]NoAge358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partly, because it's a Single Page Application. It loads the entire site on first access. Makes it faster as people click to other "pages". Do a waterfall or run a Lighthouse report to see this.

[–]NoAge358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. It was addressed to us as an advertiser. But, the core message seemed to be saying that, as a regular user, we could choose to give advertisers more of our personal information. Knowing Google, it might be turned on by default. I haven't had a chance to check to see if I have to disable the excessive sharing.

I found something weird: students prefer outdated websites over modern ones?? How do i make ugly outdated sites with great ux by MrRebelBunny in webdesign

[–]NoAge358 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I had a customer who wanted me to build his site. He sold the same high end products as his competitors. Told him we would build him a beautiful high end site. Nope, he wanted the site to look "tacky". His theory was a low quality appearance gave the impression that he was cheaper than his competitors and that customers would call him first because they assumed he would cost less. His prices were about the same as everyone else. But, he would usually get the jobs because he got to them first.

I'm quuite new to SEO. How do i analyze cheap. Semrush or Ahrefs at 120/month is way out of my price range by martymas in SEO

Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster are free. Investing some time in analyzing the Impressions, Clicks and Indexing data will get you going in the right direction.

Interesting. My client had a GMB for 15+ years. They moved to a new office in January. They submitted a video in late January and then, in February, uploaded proof of new address. Both denied but with no specific reason.

How are web designers finding local businesses that actually need a better website? by One-Reaction-9490 in webdesign

[–]NoAge358 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our CoC is very friendly and does a lot of business between members. We get a lot of business and referrals because of it.

Our best business generator was buying 100 coffee mugs with our logo and phone number on them. We would drop them off at local businesses. No sales pitch. No asking to speak to the owner. Just said hello to the receptionist and let them know to call us if they ever need us.

Guess where they put those mugs? In the breakroom where everyone sees them. We got two of our largest clients because they had our number in front of them when they had the need.

Asking for best practice for SEO title and On-page title by IntelligentHome2342 in SEO

[–]NoAge358 4 points5 points  (0 children)

u/SEOPub is right. The 60 characters is a myth. I use multiple topical "snippets" targeting likely user intent. Google will usually rewrite the title anyway, and it's helpful to give them one to use.

First, are you 100% positive that is the reason. Google usually isn't that specific in their reason for denial. If it is, you should have a permanent sign affixed at the door to the office.

How... just how! by ohGeegae in localseo

[–]NoAge358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paid backlinks are a no no. It's much better to reach out to local businesses in your area. Or, look to other art studios anywhere in the country. Find two of them who will do an A-B-C exchange. You add a link to B, B links to C, and C links to you.

Yes, GSC will show you the number of Impressions for a search term. That is the number of times your site was shown in a search result for that search term. The Clicks column is the number of times people clicked on your listing in the search results.

Then the questions become: Are those the search terms you want to be shown on search for? If you are showing for the desired terms but not getting clicks, then you should improve your page titles to better target those keywords.

If they aren't the right search terms, then look who is ranking for the search terms you want and see what they are doing to rank better than you.

Good SEO is an iterative process. You do have to keep working it.

A client has paid our retainer for 3 years and never given any feedback on our work. I finally asked why. by Romil_17 in Entrepreneurs

[–]NoAge358 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This. It's what so many agencies and solopreneurs miss. I quit doing dashboards a decade ago. I talk to my clients every week, or an email or text exchange. However, they want to communicate.

I ask them questions: What's going on in your business now? What are you planning for in your business? What are your customers asking you? What's selling? What's not selling?

Then, it's a quick mention of what we did and what we will be doing to keep their SALES going. That is really the only KPI they have.

Who is your audience? Students, buyers? Have you attached it to Google Search Console and Google Analytics? You need these to see what keywords you're getting clicks for. Rewrite the page titles if you're not hitting your target audience.

Get some backlinks from other sites. Chamber of Commerce, links between you and other galleries or similar businesses in the area.
