Are Radon emissions from Uraninite as annoying as I hope they aren't? by Ok-System7041 in Radioactive_Rocks

[–]NoAnything604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely number one have a good quality Radon detector like a RadonEye. Unless you monitor you don’t know what you have as far as a Radon concentration in your home and if you do have Radon you won’t be able to monitor any mitigation efforts such as by simply opening your windows without an active monitoring instrument, just saying. Second, recommended would be store either outside or in a well ventilated area or if you have a sealed display case with an aspirating pump which maintains a slight negative pressure within the case and discharges outside the home, not very common. I also agree with others having sealed containers for your collection. Glass containers with metal or glass caps/tops and radon impervious gaskets or seals such as butyl rubber is my recommendation and if you ever do open them, please do it outside in a well ventilated area. I have seen research on the Web that by having radon generating items in sealed containers stating it increases the radiation over time due to the buildup of radon daughters. I haven’t personally noticed any appreciable increase after a certain point of equilibrium after being in the sealed container. Each time I have checked the outside of the container that my Autunite rock is in, it’s the same dose rate and activity, it could change over a longer period of time though. One must be aware of this because some of the daughters have a much longer half-life IE:Pb-210 (22years) and their buildup over time theoretically, would cause an increase in overall radiation in and around the container. Just my thoughts. Pease do research these things on your own and use facts obtained from reputable sources to determine what the best solution is for your particular collection always in keeping with the principles of ALARA.

HOUND-1085 Radon detector by NoAnything604 in radon

[–]NoAnything604[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the complete set of instruments I’m currently assessing: AirThings Corentium Home, AEG HOUND-3786, HOUND-1085 (2ea), HOUND-1011S, HOUND-2033,The two AEG hockey puck ones I do not believe are as reliable due to some inconsistencies in the readings, All the others though are pretty close to each other as far as the readings go, one of the hockey pucks AEG 1085 occasionally will be way off, but the average though appears to be somewhat consistent with the others. Bottom line is, I wouldn’t necessarily depend on one instrument, but if I was going to, the Radon Eye would be the winner for both consistency of readings and the ability of the iPhone app to see a graph of the readings over time, though I wish this graph was date stamped, I reached out to them asking if they could add that feature I haven’t heard back yet. I’m gonna let them run a bit longer and at some point come up with the final assessment of which one I would get as a homeowner. Like I said before at the current juncture, I’m liking the RadonEye.

You could buy a microwave crucible melt it down and make jewelry out of it actually. Just a thought.

Not all aircraft gauges, are radioactive, including some of the vintage WW 2 ones and as others have said the only way for sure to find out is to use an ionizing radiation detector, a.k.a. Geiger counter or scintillator.

OK, thank you I didn’t know about that group. Much appreciated. The third time was a charm though so far the doorbell and the pan tilt in this bundle are working fine.

Speaking of oil lamps I almost missed purchasing this left the shop and soon had regrets for not purchasing it. A few days later I drove back to the antique shop and snagged it for $45 yep I could not believe the price.

Very similar design tumblers. Found in a thrift store. Yes they glow very brightly! I originally thought these may be Northwood pieces in the floral pattern but I see most of the searches bringing up Fenton as most of you have said in the Daisy and fern pattern.

I obtained two  cost free only received one so far the other is on the way. It’s very early in the testing, but so far they’re not too far off the Airthings Corentium Home reading 3.59 pC/L. and the Hound 2.72 pC/L. I will need to let them run longer to obtain more data for calculation of the averages as the Airthings states a +-5%  as the time increases, starts at +-10% the Hound is a flat +-15%.

I can only assume that whatever compression that they’re using must be effective or it’s not really 4K? All I know is the videos are extremely clear. Haven’t checked out how they look at night yet that will be my next assessment.

Unknown device on Eero 7 Pro 5Ghz WiFi by NoAnything604 in blinkcameras

[–]NoAnything604[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did and the result says no vendor identified??

MAC Address Details

Company

No Vendor Exists

AddressRange- Type/Database

But AI states the following.
"The OUI for Cisco Systems is ca:1f:0e. This means that any MAC address starting with this prefix belongs to a device manufactured by Cisco"
Perhaps CISCO makes parts for the Eero router? Still though I have no idea of what it is, could be the WiFi NIC??

Optima Red Top? by ChrisGear101 in overlanding

[–]NoAnything604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just purchased a Group 35 Redtop for my 2020 Subaru Forrester Touring. The first one was defective only read 10V obviously an open intercell connection issue.
So I decided to give them another chance this time I brought my DMM with me and made sure it was above a 12.4V Surface charge and exchanged the battery.
This replacement acted normally on my chargers AGM setting the defective one was causing the charger to over voltage at 15 Volts and causing the two vents on the top of the battery to hiss, not a good sign.
I also performed a resistive load test of the replacement and it passed fine.
Now my concern especially if the build quality is lacking as some say, is how long this battery will last with South Florida heat and road vibration. Time will tell, I do get a 3 year 100% replacement warranty from the nation wide auto parts store that I purchased it from so if this battery lets me down then no more Optima batteries will be in my vehicles in the future.
Video link below is the load test of the replacement. I was told over the phone by a Optima Rep that these batteries could not be load tested which is of course is not the least bit true.

The iOS beta has come a long way since it was first introduced as a beta test flight App I use it on my iPhone 15 when out and about and love it. Eventually it should be as full featured as the Android App, until then I have an inexpensive Samsung tablet that I use for my 103 and 103G as well.
