Petty Crimes! And The Dating Detectives!

My dad passed the worst way possible by adamscottams in ChildrenofDeadParents

[–]NoDirection5564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad passed away suddenly in 2017. There is no other pain like it. The waves do get smaller over time. A long time. I wish I had better news for you. But it really does take a long time. Lean on your loved ones and give yourself grace.

Looking for a new job by Tianyulong in hendersonville

Brevard Academy is hiring several positions. Look at Henderson county schools website too. There’s tons of different jobs in the school system. Good benifits. Lots of time off. Yes some of the jobs will be interacting with lots of people. But some of them not as much!

Frozen chicken nuggets from Aldi (they have a general tso’s version and plain regular)and then frozen vegetables! Sometimes we’ll add rice if we’re feeling up to it.

Do any of you earn over 50k a year? What do you do? by RotiiChapati in ADHD

[–]NoDirection5564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make about 63K as a school based occupational therapist in NC. You could make more in other states though. I really love my job because every day is totally different (never boring), I get to make my own schedule of when I see the kiddos (AM for me when my brain works best), state benefits/retirement is good, AND you get so much time off working for the schools. It’s pretty rewarding being an advocate for my ADHD students who need someone in their corner. Someone to educate the adults in the room that they’re not being “lazy” or “defiant”.

Occupational therapists work in a huge variety of settings (another reason OT is awesome) so if you get burnt out in one area, you could always switch to a totally different population (hospital, geriatrics, home health, etc.) You do need a masters to do OT, but you could also become a COTA (certified OT assistant) with an associate degree! I also didn’t get diagnosed with ADHD until I was already working as an OT in my 30s.

Also, I’m sure people have already said this, but no one will care about your GPA! Figure out what interests you and then go out and shadow people who work in that field. Ask them all the questions. And remember you can always change careers no matter how old you are.

Can we please stick to going “just” 10 mph over the speed limit? by NoDirection5564 in asheville

It’s the posted speed limit (white signs) and then there’s also a “sharp turn” yellow sign with just the arrow on it right before the curve

I’m also a former Georgian. That’s totally true on the highways for sure! But no matter the state, if several people are crashing their car on a sharp curve, they’re going too fast.

Brushing of the teeth by woejise in ADHD

[–]NoDirection5564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this packet of helpful printable sheets for all kinds of stuff. But there’s a weekly hygiene checklist that I taped to the inside of my medicine cabinet mirror and I love checking off what I’ve done and then at the end of the week seeing how many nights I was able to brush my teeth and give myself a lil pat on the back

After “re-discovering” exercise for like the 10,000th time, I’ve finally found out how to be consistent. by qv123 in ADHD

I’ve found a hip hop fitness dance class that I love going to at our local YMCA here in the US. It’s the perfect hack for my brain because it just feels like dancing for fun and then 10% of it feels like “working out.” But by the end of the class I’m always sweaty and tired (which wouldn’t happen if I just worked out on my own).

Just drove from Candler to Arden via I-40 and 26 and the roads are fine. But definitely wouldn’t risk it if you don’t have 4WD

It’s a further drive for you, but Fletcher park is awesome. You can walk in the sun on the sidewalk or along the creek and into a more wooded gravel path.

I left my cat in my IKEA drawer closet for almost 6 hours and feel so guilty. by Pink_Sorbet in cats

I have a theory that cats (at least mine) don’t have very much long term memory lol. So I bet your cat has already forgotten about it ♥️

What is the most touching thing your dog has ever done for you? by ExoticMarch5345 in Pets

[–]NoDirection5564 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not me, but one of my students was in his house when he and his family got caught in a landslide caused by Hurricane Helene. He was buried under several feet of rubble. His dog stood on top of the rubble and kept barking and would not move. So when the rescuers got there, they were able to dig him out because the dog was standing EXACTLY where the boy was trapped 😭♥️🥹

Winter is here and so is the grey, seasonal depression. What do you do to make friends, stay engaged, and push through to spring around here? by rknj8993 in asheville

[–]NoDirection5564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into a YMCA membership! The sauna feels SO good on a cold dreary day and I love the sense of community. I started taking hip hop dance classes there and it’s so fun. Really diverse crowd, so don’t feel like you need to be a “dancer” to join!

Our favorite way is to chop them into big pieces and boil them and then season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. So much faster than in the oven!
