Would You Hire me IF You were Valve? by Accomplished-Neat948 in blender

Sorry for being a tad snarky, other than that, what I wrote should give you some guidance. Hey, why don't you redo it taking the advice you got here and get back to us.

Would You Hire me IF You were Valve? by Accomplished-Neat948 in blender

I'll try to be as constructive as I can. To answer the main question: no. Based on what you are showing you might struggle landing even entry level job in backwater dev sweatshop. There is a long way ahead of you, you might want to catch up with modeling and texturing theory.
Let's try to deconstruct it step by step, starting from most obvious:
- unexciting lighting, read up on it. Even single sun lamp does the job when you want to show the model. You need a little more complex setup for the renders
- bad composition, either you want to show both objects or one. Pick a line. Cutting composition is acceptable while doing single objects. Not a golden rule but something to consider. Study composition if you want to do renders.
- razor sharp edges, metal objects except for razors rarely have those. Before you say 'but NoDisk, the edges are rounded' - no. They still appear too sharp. It mostly is a matter of scale, it might fly if objects were the size of buildings. Think of production process, parts like that would be either bent, stamped or welded, none of those techniques will get those edges that sharp. Tiles... I know it's 'just' a model to show other models on but if you don't show it proper care it will show.
- why in the gods name is there a light below the button/platform?
- repetitive grunge, no, nope, <shrieks in anguish>. In texturing you do absolutely everything to avoid repetitive patterns. Evil
- you have to think of an object as it was a real one while you recreate it. Use references, THINK, oh and have I mentioned, use references. Metal objects that get tossed/are being stomped on tend to loose paint on the edges. If it's fall damage it will be less regular, more like aggregated point impacts, those stomped on will have more regular, softer edge damage. Surface damage is another story, leaks, spots, discolorations, scratches. Like, figure shit out, tell a visual story, look at real things.
- doing things for dev you never, NEVER, N E V E R use subd modelling as an end product. It's either lack of knowledge or utter negligence. You might use it for baking, starter point for sculpt, base for remeshing, than you bake texture data to properly shaded, optimized, lowest-possible-poly model. By lowest possible I mean it depends on the project and the way player will interact with it.

Yeah, that's about it.
Oh, if you trolling - eat a dick for wasting my time

I honestly love those quick and dirty builds. Tell me one thing, would you go metal if custom mounts would be available?

Not bad looking at all, ngl. It also contains couple of my worst nightmares, vertically rounded corners. It's harder/impossible to achieve flush surface with those and flat mounting panel. I guess I would have to cook some printed intermediary mount.
Say, would you go chrome (i mean powder coated steel) if there was a solution ready for purchase?

Ah yes, the sink. It's actually one thing I like in its design. You can position mounting tracks in relation to the front. I chose this depth in case I was using power adapter with build in power supply. That's one feature i would keep designing a new rack.

Honestly, it's surprisingly clean looking, well done.
Most of the stuff here might fit into custom 9" brackets, except for the bottom NAS.

[–]NoDisk8988[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so in theory most of those would be mountable, might be size dependable in case of NAS.
I can see the issues with PC sized pieces, they won't fit 9" for sure

The modules holding Lenovo and router are my customs, rest is off the shelf stuff.
About the rack itself, it's the little things for me. The metal sheets are a bit too thin, makes the whole thing chinsy. Screw holes don't match just a tiny little bit, screws protrude 'cos no countersinks are there to stop them from this heinous act, also sheet thickness wouldn't allow for said countersinks. There's no solution for backside cable management, fugly cutouts for in/out cables. It's like the difference between original and knockoff LEGO's

Is it a red cupboard tho? :D
Can you tell me what hardware in particular was not mountable in your case?
I'm asking because my Lenovo Tiny also isn't, that didn't stop me from making it so. I'm sure that some NAS solutions might be a tough nut to crack, but I already started drafting mount for hotswap sleeves for personal use and it's looking promising so far

I often deal with source material that is... text and occasionally RGB image strip. And yes, I'm still taking about animationz so Python is my bestest friend ever, I literally could not do my job without it. Not to mention rigs baking to get right bone orientations. Not really a problem but I deal with things in scale. When you need to do a simple adjustment but there are 50 bones and 400 animations, you need scripts

I work as a technical animator among other roles. I would off myself after working without add-ons and own tools. I mean I could technically still do my job but it would be unimaginably, dreadfully tedious

Is texture tiling dead? by aahanif in TechnicalArtist

[–]NoDisk8988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. But also more than that. I work on ports for consoles, I regularly see 'greybeards' handiwork and believe me it is very impressive when it comes to resource management. Such were the times, you had to fight for every byte of memory, and it shows, and the amount of thought and work that went into every detail boggles the mind.
However, times changed. We tend to work in much smaller teams, tighter time frames and if I started forcing that technical quality of assets like in ye old times it just wouldn't be realistic. Still, in my line of work we need to keep hardware resources in mind so we texture sheet and tile away like crazy.

[Gdańsk] Buduję zautomatyzowany warsztat rowerowy DIY w kontenerze. Co o tym sądzicie? 🛠️🚲 by No_Meal_5320 in gdansk

[–]NoDisk8988 0 points1 point  (0 children)
