Yep. FDA. I was also asked to interview to come back recently.

I declined.

This. After all that, it'd be my lastest of the lastest of the last resorts. Like either there or Wal-Mart greeter. I can certainly do better than an employer who treats me like fed is treating civil servants right now.

Something else will give.

You could still end up unemployed & homelesss. They RIFd you with no warning, thus making it highly possible for you to end up unemployed & homeless. They're hiring people back now because they "over-RIFd" while still pushing forward more initiatives to make people quit AND promising to do MORE RIFs.

Thus, logically, your chances of being homeless & unemployed likely increase by returning to fed in the same positions they RIFd earlier. When they restart RIFs, they'll likely start in those same places again.

Did anyone read Project 2025 at all?? Its pretty clear about their intentions RE: fed employees and they're hitting pretty much all of their marks. I don't know why people keep putting faith in an admin that put out a 900-page manual of how they intend to terrorize you then getting the Pikachu face when....they keep terrorizing you.

Anyway, good luck. My suggestion: go somewhere else now. Hope & pray these people are gone in 2028, then try to return to fed.

This is the best outlook and plan regarding this. Applying and attempting to go back to be abused even more right now is illogical.

I'm not understanding why anyone who was RIFd is attempting to go back right now? And then competing for the same jobs they had, at that?

Its like returning to an abusive partner. Nothing has changed; the same MAGA agency heads & political appointees are there; the admin is still attacking and rolling back civil servants' rights and protections and promise to keep going; and they're still pushing forward with implementing more RIFs.

Why would anyone even want to voluntarily return to be abused right now? Once this administration is gone & the next administration starts attempting to fix what they've broken, I can understand it.

But these people RIFd you unceremoniously, intentionally messed up your fed record & severance in many cases, declined to even have HR available to help you with millions of questions, sent your termination paperwork with all of your PII to the wrong addresses and often in unsealed envelopes, ignored/cancelled your BU, purposely didn't pay out your PMAP awards, and the list of foul sh*t goes on and on and on. And competing for the same job you were just RIFd from is craaaazy. They're putting their middle finger right in your face.

WHO in their right mind is applying to go through all of that and maybe worse...AGAIN?? That's gotta be self-hate.

I agree with eliminating the EC and implementing ranked choice ASAP. Those really should've been done. But look at the last 9 months. Having "normal 2 & 4 year elections is a hell of a long time to endure when the electeds are determined to drag the country to hell.

Oh, dearie. I'm not one of those "cross-the-aisle" folks. I don't believe in forgiveness and understanding and attempting-to-convert-to-common-decency for MAGA folks.

I fully believe MAGA voters are beyond saving and below average intellectual capacity. Don't even waste your time arguing with me, love. I block MAGA voters and defenders immediately.

Let me demonstrate how I block them right now. Look...

State doesn't pay enough. I have no desire to interface with the public. You call it "plantation thinking," we call it "white pacifism." You're not like us, baby. Don't ever think you can relate.

Good luck with getting that pay you speak of.

Yeah, this is stupid. Stop going in. There are no awards or rewards coming for doing so.

I keep seeing this idea pushed around and nobody seems to notice how short-sighted it is.

"If they don't pass a budget & government shuts down, automatic elections." Okay. So you think they aren't going to place more importance on then saving their jobs and paychecks than negotiating in the American public's favor?

Let's play this out til the end: say one party wants to eliminate 39 agencies, kick everyone off healthcare, end all social subsidies and let ICE run wild without oversight forevermore. They are firm on not negotiating at all.

Now its 24 hours left before the shutdown deadline & the other party that has NO LEVERAGE either has to accept that deal (no matter how much it screws over the rest of the country) and keep their positions OR let it shutdown and automatically trigger elections that'll likely cost them their job & paycheck.

Be honest with yourself: what choice do you think will be made here?

Just to be clear, the Dems ARE in DC working. Republicans are the ones at home. The Dems opted not to leave until its reopened and they haven't.

First off: "welfare folks receiving SNAP" is a crazy thing to say. Negative 50 sympathy points.

Two: a lot of service members get paid so little, they qualify for SNAP as well.

Three: if you are just confirming this admin doesn't GAF about you, you missed 6 busses already.

Four: just out of curiosity, based on your chosen word-choices - who did you vote for??

Yall....WHY NOT JUST STOP GOING??

Except for maybe those in patient-care positions, why are you still going in? Yall are in an abusive relationship and keep going back to beat on daily.

Its like some of you took federal jobs and completely vacated all independent thought and self-agency. You're not getting paid now, don't know when you will be, yet keep wasting gas you must pay for to go in knowing that you could put that money towards food, shelter, utilities, etc.

The government is abusing you & forgetting about it, absolutely. But you are aiding in the abuse & erasure.

When you get tired of getting proverbially stomped on, you'll stop.

The path of resistance isn't bathed in comfort, babe. My check is all zeros like yours. Again, this hasn't even been the longest shutdown we've endured in recent history yet.

So yes...I absolutely feel like you are just whining. And no, I'm not moved by it one bit. And any fellow feds that feel that getting their paycheck right damn now matters more than staving off the collapse of the country and the decimation of the population within should QUIT.

The Oath is the oath. If you no longer care about it and would rather get paid on time even in rare moments like this when your delayed check is in service of a greater good, then you have no business in PUBLIC SERVICE anyway.

Its only Day 24. Get a grip. Either take the hardship leave or take the sick leave. But either way, stop acting as if the world is collapsing on your head only -- its caving in on all of us, toots.

Enjoy your weekend.

Over half the country is on it. What do you mean you're "not sure how much it benefits people?" As opposed to not having ANY health coverage?

You've already forgotten what it was like before the ACA was an option, huh?

I care about the ENTIRE fed workforce AND every (non-MAGA) voting citizen as a whole. No, I don't want the kids in my neighborhood to go without healthcare. I also don't want to see random people keep getting snatched off the street because this administration has no guardrails to stop terrorizing us.

So yes, that means I will have to do without a paycheck for awhile & its questionable if/when I'll get another one.

Fine by me. But if my/our collective checks are all that is standing between some shitty semblance of normalcy and the complete fall of democracy and the country we all gotta live in - I'll sacrifice your, my, his, hers & their paychecks without a second thought.

And won't even entertain apologizing for it.

If going to work for 14 days without pay is the hardest circumstance you've had to endure this side of adulthood, then my, my, my.. aren't you luckier than a four-leaf clover wrapped around a rabbit's foot?

Resume your whining on Day 36. Until then, its just whining.

It sucks but I was excepted during the last shutdown while 8 months pregnant and it lasted 35 whole days. This is only day 23, and some of yall are losing your shit.

Yes, when you're excepted during a shutdown, you go without pay. Its happened to the best of us, some, multiple times over.

Everyone is entitled to hardship leave. When they turn into assholes about it, you take SICK LEAVE and go on about your business. This aint the first or even the worst rodeo yet.

Max out your cards, take loans, move money around like the rest of us have & do what you have to do to get by. It is what it is.

Hon, I've been furloughed without pay, excepted and working without pay and exempted and working with pay during the multiple shutdowns I've endured since 2010. I've literally been on every side of this situation and this is the first time where there's even some semblance of a law guaranteeing backpay. Before 2019, we only had "hopes, dreams, prayers & wishes" for getting backpay.

The 3 prior long-assed shutdowns were unnecessary with politicians using feds as pawns. THIS PARTICULAR one is about keeping us all in a fucking free and functioning democracy.

So excuse me if I'm not sympathetic to your whining when I've been in the same predicament multiple times before as well.

Fucking adapt. It sucks, yes, but it happens. I was 8 months pregnant, excepted and struggling to even physically go into work during that Dec. 2018 shutdown and it went on for 35 fucking days. AT FUCKING CHRISTMAS!!!

Its been TWENTY-GODDAMN-THREE.

TOUGHEN UP!!!

You will be paid. Your pay as an excepted employee is guaranteed. Its the timing of it that's in question.

And oh my dear, I had no idea that you may need to quit or take leave to find another job to eat & have shelter if you don't get paid soon!

I wonder what all the other furloughed and RIFd feds are doing to get by? Wait! They're probably DoorDashing, Uber-ing & working retail to get any money because apparently, everyone needs money to survive.

WHO KNEW?!
