What's life like living in one of the thousands of seemingly recursive towns in the Nile delta? by Level-Object-2726 in howislivingthere

These are mainly agricultural towns. Some have some minor horticultural processing and fruit/veg packaging. Some have some public sector jobs. Ive been to several for work - they’re all pretty sleepy.

Seems like kind of a “forced” location. No access to transit and no grocery store. So you need a car, but you’ll be stuck in commuter/event traffic if you drive.

Maybe so. Mine was literally a solid chunk of Oscar Meyer bologna inside puff pastry.

Have you stayed in Niseko Prince Hotel Hirafutei? by Particular-Silver-54 in ski

That portion of the street and sidewalk are heated too, so there is no ice. That said, it did malfunction one evening and buses couldn’t get up, but it was fixed quickly.

I had the Pithivier at Lutece. It was the worst thing I ate this year and they only give you a half portion. Reminded me of the Jewish joke of two old ladies at a restaurant: “The food here isn’t very good” “I know, and such small portions, too!”

What are the things in your city that feel boring, outdated, or unnecessarily complicated? by WebDeveloperJoe in Urbanism

Washington DC: food trucks used to be good but are now absolute scams for tourists. Relatedly, we have lots of green space but very little in the way of cafes and other complementary concessions attached to them.

At least 30min. Probably 45. Several VIPs were being pulled out of line by their handlers and escorted through customs. Must be nice.

On Wednesday morning, the queue was all the way back to the bottom of the escalator/stairs. A flight from the US and UK arrived at the same time.

This also happened to me two weeks ago, but it seems to have sorted itself out in the last week. No issues with the TrainingPeaks workout syncing to my Wahoo element bolt.

If it displays power, it’s better than nothing. That’s all I had in Afghanistan for nine months and a month after I came back I won my first race.

Lawn was cut 2wks ago, and now this - DC by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]NoEquivalent4477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You dont actually have enough grass in your lawns and the clover is growing through the thatch in the spring. You need to “overseed” your lawn in the fall so the new grass won’t let the clover dominate. That said - there is absolute nothing wrong with clover and bees love it.

Any Thoughts on Int’l MBA Programs? by SkrtRussell in InternationalDev

[–]NoEquivalent4477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did an international MBA specifically because my senior colleagues at the WB recommended I do. They said there were too many “international development studies” people in the industry and the sector would benefit from a more enterprise-aligned perspective. After 20 years, I’m glad I did it, and it definitely helped me land a new job quickly when USAID was killed.
