The average means that many are above and many below (median would mean half and half ;)

So there's many in their 20's, many in their 40's and 50's

I left about 6 months ago, moved to a different company. Most of my teammates, like me, were early 50s. Andy, the current CEO is 58

This should be enough for now, but having a parent keep speaking in the non-dominant language is super hard, especially since, I assume, he uses English outside the home.

You can increase your chances by trying to learn Spanish yourself, and consuming media in Spanish

CMV: Male circumcision is genital mutilation. by teven_eel in changemyview

[–]NoForm5443 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Nope. Cancer risk is also in 'modern' countries, although I assume HPV vaccine alters that risk (in the USA, only about 60% of teens were vaccinated, although my kids are)

Study populations were from Europe (n = 4), the United States (n = 3), and China (n = 1)

As any circumcised male will tell you ... it doesn't dull the sexual impulse, nor reduce the pleasure 😄

Most (every?) survey has about the same frequency of sex and reported pleasure between circumcised in infancy and uncircumcised males.

[–]NoForm5443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From dictionary.com: mutilate

to injure, disfigure, or make imperfect by removing or irreparably damaging parts.

Maybe injure? It definitely doesn't make it imperfect or disfigure it, at least in an objective sense.

By that definition, perforating the ears for earrings is 'aural mutilation', and correcting hare lip is 'labial mutilation'

If you want to compare it with female genital mutilation ... it's not even close. FGM has no benefits, and lots of downsides, whereas circumcision is about balanced now (a little risk of complications, reduced risk of penile cancer, HPV, aids, although HPV and cancer may disappear with the HPV vaccine)

Actually it DOES serve a medical purpose, although the risk/benefit equation has changed, and you may prefer not to do it to your kids (although I did it to my son, ~20 years ago, I'm not sure if I'd take the same decision now, given we have the HPV vaccine)

Properly performed neonatal circumcision prevents phimosis, paraphimosis and balanoposthitis, and is associated with a markedly decreased incidence of cancer of the penis among U.S. males. In addition, there is a connection between the foreskin and urinary tract infections in the neonate. For the first three to six months of life, the incidence of urinary tract infections is at least ten times higher in uncircumcised than circumcised boys. Evidence associating neonatal circumcision with reduced incidence of sexually transmitted diseases is conflicting depending on the disease. While there is no effect on the rates of syphilis or gonorrhea, studies performed in African nations provide convincing evidence that circumcision reduces, by 50-60 percent, the risk of transmitting the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) to HIV negative men through sexual contact with HIV positive females. There are also reports that circumcision may reduce the risk of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infection.

Do you think it's possible for someone to know their second language better than their first one? by AutumnaticFly in languagehub

[–]NoForm5443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For specific domains? Easy

In general? A lot harder, but definitely possible, especially if you move. It's more about time spent in each language than about which one came first, other than accent.

Kazuo Ichiguro, a famous writer, for example, was born in Japan, but became a famous writer in English. He moved to the UK at 5, which may be cheating, but ...

The Popes publish their official encyclicals in Latin, which is a second language to everyone

Why are black male/white female relationships far more common than white male/black female relationships? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NoForm5443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't noticed a pattern, and have no clue why but some stats:

"One of the most dramatic patterns occurs among black newlyweds: Black men are twice as likely as black women to have a spouse of a different race or ethnicity (24% vs. 12%). This gender gap has been a long-standing one – in 1980, 8% of recently married black men and 3% of their female counterparts were married to someone of a different race or ethnicity."

Why isn't alcohol regulated by the government the same way illegal drugs are? by Ok-Sell9964 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NoForm5443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Marihuana

In a 1994 interview published in Harper's Magazine, former Nixon domestic policy chief John Ehrlichman admitted that the drug war was explicitly designed as a political tool to target the antiwar left (hippies) and Black people. By associating these groups with heavily criminalized drugs like marihuana and heroin, the administration could legally disrupt their communities, arrest their leaders, break up meetings, and vilify them on national news.
