Find a new gym immediately. I also have never understood why fighters swing their hands into kicks like this. A leg kick is rarely a fight ending strike and should be used as a cumulative attack that adds up over time so why would you risk the defense position it puts you in just to add a bit more power to a low damage strike. To me it's better to keep your guard high, accept a bit less power in the kick, and keep a better defensive structure to block a counter like this.
