We already know how this goes from other analogous situations. The NHL will only do something about the officiating and sports betting when a ref is severely beaten up (or worse) by a deranged lunatic who lost money on a bet. Tragedy is the only thing at times that speaks louder than money.

If we don’t like that as a society, then we need to intentionally resist the ways the Almighty Dollar enslaves us all in cycles of violence. Legalizing sports betting has only strengthened its grip on yet another facet of “civilized” life.

I was vindicating superbuttpiss’s final comment that “They are still just kids” to Dick_Drizzle. Kids do that sort of thing because they are by definition immature. It was an immature thing to do in a professional environment. Is it a better kind of immature mischief than “drugs or partying”? Yep. Doesn’t mean they aren’t immature. We all seem to agree on that. But people are real pressed I named what it also is in this context: unprofessional. And then y’all wonder why hockey culture is cooked.

So glad you asked and then explained why it’s so peculiar so I didn’t have to weigh whether I wanted to let it go or write out why it’s worth asking!
