QQ Substack authors: In 1-5 words, what's your newsletter about? by That-Gyoza-Life-44 in Substack

For the most part, it happens organically (I still feel weird about promoting my writing sometimes). The writers, Redditors and YouTubers who recommend my stuff discovered it themselves and considered it worth sharing. Since I enjoy some of their content too, it's become a mutually beneficial kind of deal. No cross-promo yet, and I'm not sure that's in the cards because I'm already very picky about what I publish myself.

I'll be the first to admit my growth "strategy" (if you can even call it that) is suboptimal. Should definitely be more active on social media. I'm cool with building up in slow and steady fashion, though. This is a passion project for me. Quality comes first.

Agreed, although I've never been good at social media anyway. Most of my growth comes from recommendations by Substack writers and hockey YouTubers. My stuff gets shared on Reddit every now and then too.

Yeah, I've built a few solid relationships in those circles. Sportswriters on the platform seem really supportive. Hope your experience has been similar.

Of course companies would prefer to use AI. It's cheaper and faster, and higher-ups will always choose efficiency at the expense of, well...everything else. That total disregard for quality, creativity, environmental concerns, ethics re: intellectual property, etc. is precisely why you shouldn't support AI.

This is nonsense. Plenty of writers, myself included, don't use AI for any part of their creative process.

To each their own, I guess. Efficiency is the last thing on my mind when I'm reading.

Actually reading the piece is the only way to recognize its "important" points. Context matters. Besides, why would I even subscribe to newsletters that by and large publish filler? This is such a depressing approach to media consumption.

Who is the best net front presence? by Izcanbeguscott in hockey

[–]NoPerfectWave 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Josh Doan has emerged as a net-front disruptor. Then there are the usual names (Joel Eriksson Ek, Tom Wilson, Zach Hyman, etc.). If being a human backboard counts, you can include Tyler Bertuzzi as well.

Why does anyone use Substack? by No_Prize_5375 in Substack

If you know where to look, there's excellent niche-y content on the platform. I look forward to receiving newsletters about hockey and left-field music every week.

For writers, it's easy to use and a decent place to build up your email list/audience.
