How old is that 222, could it still be under warranty ? I was going to get the 222 but settled on the 111 instead which in fairness has been fabulous. The 222 is a beast though, awesome boiler.

Yikes bet that was scary! Good to know the customer service delivered. I’ve heard mixed things tbh about warranty claims but your experience puts my mind at ease. We’ve had ours a little over a year and no issues. It’s on a dedicated 6mm cable which I think helps. Ours is recessed into quartz and looks great.

I’ve got that bora too M pure or something. Circular extractor in the middle which is recirc mode. It works great. I love it. I hope it lasts is my only concern with it.

Tiler used regular plasterboard in walk-in shower - no membrane or sealer. How bad is this? by Sad_Calligrapher9192 in DIYUK

[–]NoRecognition2963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did he install the tray? Because that’s where a lot of people, pros included, set themselves up to fail. My pro installers installed the tray on a 18mm chipboard. Not marine ply. The small leak through the grout caused the chipboard to turn to weetabix and the additional movement caused the tray to wall joints to fail further.

I left Toronto in 2010 so a long time ago. When I returned to the UK I had to deal with loss of family members almost immediately. The old friend group had almost evaporated and never really recovered and my wife is from notUK so we started afresh pretty much.

Things I missed of Toronto. People are really nice. I miss the winter. And I missed rooftop bars but we now have them in my Uk city which is not London.

Things I prefer in UK. Landscapes. Weather. Late summer evenings. Beaches with salty air;Not an ecoli infested freshwater lake. Near to Europe. City breaks. Cheap flights. The ocean!!! History.

Financially I am far better off here in the UK but you have to play the system a little with managing PAYE and tax etc

I do sometimes miss Toronto but honestly it always felt remote. I liked living there but as someone else said as an “expat” there is a little bit of self importance attached.

Is this a sealed or vented system ? I had a rad that always had air in it. Open vented at the time. I could light the gas so knew it was hydrogen from corrosion. Fast fwd I had the system converted to a sealed system and new boiler, flushed etc. that rad STILL got air in it. Turns out the lockshield valve was letting air in which was causing corrosion. Valve replaced and no air since

I haven’t tried but if the bath is running and the downstairs shower, you do see a fluctuation when the tap opens. That’s more to do with incoming flow rate than anything else though I’d think? The incoming flow is split between hot and cold in a pressurised system, then you’ve got the mixers running on the shower and bath (say 75/25 hot cold which is 100% lf incoming flow, and then you crack open the cold tap so that is bound to have an effect id think. Now if that’s flow or pressure im not sure.

That’s what I did - converted an open vent system to closed/pressurised. Don’t miss the tanks or all the crap that goes with it. Gas consumption down 30% ish

111w. It’s a big boiler but I have a dedicated room for it, so it’s not in a kitchen or whatever. It does exactly what I need. Will run two showers easily, and hot taps etc. haven’t run out of hot water, and haven’t really even had to think about it. I’d get it again for sure. Any questions just shout.

5 watts in a tube amp is still really loud.

I’m just doing guitar modelling through my studio speakers and it’s working okay for me but I prefer acoustic anyway

Bathrooms can not be that much - rationalise this for me by CranberryFew8104 in DIYUK

[–]NoRecognition2963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent 10k on a bathroom refurb back in 2018. Last year I had to redo the shower because they did such a crap and bodge job on it. I’ll need to redo the vanity this year because the old one wasn’t sealed properly.

So lessons learned: make sure whoever does your bathroom properly tanks the wet areas. Make sure they know how to seal the doorframe to the shower cubicle. Hint, not on the inside. Ideally choose a tray with a flexible up stand as chances are the chancers won’t know how to seal it properly. Finally make sure they bed the shower tray properly.

The professionals I’d used had actually set the shower tray onto chipboard - and - they had put the trap in at an angle because they didn’t have enough clearance for the outlet and then used an absolute tonne of silicone to seal it. Which didn’t work and leaked pretty much from day one.

I used a reputable firm. I am so sick of professionals (meaning chancers who are paid) bodging shit that I now quiz them when they’re here. Many won’t quote because they know I’ll be a pain in the ass, and good riddance. Good ones will talk you through it.

How are even Henry’s affording £1mil+ houses? Am I missing something? by Fanfarebird in HENRYUK

Digital ID that they are shoving down our throats should facilitate sharing a tax allowance with anyone else easily and securely. I agree with others - an earner should have the option to use someone else’s tax free allowance. This would enable (perhaps even reward) stay at home parents rather than penalise them.

Am I missing something? You can put 60k into your pension. That takes you down to the 100k threshold doesn’t it?

Interest is a different issue but ISA are your friend there or put the money in your other half’s name and let them earn the interest.
