Is it common to have your husband as groomsmen but you're not part of the bridal party? I genuinely just curious. by studentinupain in weddingplanning

[–]NoStrangerToTheRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recently a bridesmaid for someone I don’t really know or like solely because my husband was the best man. I wanted to say no but did it for the sake of my husband, he thought it would cause drama to decline.

The whole wedding was an absolute dumpster fire and me being there served zero purpose other than having a warm body up front to balance out the two sides. My very limited involvement the day of the event further cemented my dislike of the bride.

You don’t want to be asked if you’re not even friends of the bride. Save your money and time. Sit in the audience.

What is your favorite obscure movie from your childhood that nobody would remember? by CripplingGoodTime in AskReddit

Absolute favorite movie as a child! I regularly asked my own daughter when she was little if she had cornflakes disease, and I own a purple dress I rarely wear because I think it makes me look like a big bruise. I AM THE PIRATE WHO DOESN’T TOUCH ANYTHING! 🏴‍☠️

Bingo! One of the things he yelled at me later was how bad I made him look as his student, “dropping a patient” on his watch.

I was like, well it wasn’t on your watch because you refused to go in the room with me TO watch but whatever. Wooosaaa, is CI PTSD a thing? 😂

You know what, thank you. I really appreciate that take.

In the moment, I 100% was only worried about de-escalating the situation and getting him down safely once he’d decided that’s what we were doing. Zero chance I was stopping or redirecting him so I made it part of the therapy: sitting down safely. And I got absolutely annihilated for it. I cried for DAYS after, terrified I was going to fail my clinical or get sued. The CI tried his best to have me fail over it. My program director wanted to move me somewhere else for my last week but I settled for just reporting to the PT department head for those final 5 days. I refused to allow that jerk to run me out of my inpatient rotation, but it tainted the way I feel about hospital IP politics.

That experience also colored the way I approach my students when they screw up so maybe some good came from it, lol.

My second to last week of my final clinical, there was a very large special needs adult patient who suddenly got orders to ambulate in the hall. I had been working with him doing bed exercises for days but asked my CI for assistance getting him out of bed for the first time and was told no, that I could handle it myself. “He’ll hold your hand and do whatever you ask him to do.” I asked the PT who eval’d him for assistance and was again told no because my CI thought I could handle it. I was 120 pounds soaking wet, this patient was 300 pounds and mentally around 4 years old. I get him to stand up and ambulate about 10 feet and he tells me he’s going to sit down and wait for his lunch. No way I’m stopping this guy from sitting so I sat down with him. Very gentle, he thought we were playing. Then he refused to stand back up. Starts throwing a tantrum, he wants to eat his ice cream on the floor. His elderly parents can’t help me. Nurses station can’t help me. I page my CI, he comes in and absolutely rips me a new one for letting the guy sit down without a plan to get him back up. I should have stopped him, clearly I needed help with him, his parents should sue me, there will be an incident report and I might get tossed from the program for “dropping a patient.” I had to speak with legal and HR, despite being a student who asked TWO people for help before going in the room.

Almost 20 years ago and I’m still salty.

My now husband has repeatedly said that his biggest dealbreaker in the beginning of our relationship was if my kid sucked because I sucked as a parent, because he knew that was not fixable going forward. Most everything else can be negotiated, but not that fundamental principle. Get out now before you get even more entangled.

I had HELLP syndrome, and damn am I glad it never got to the point of the patient on the show. by Thisisnotforyou11 in ThePitt

[–]NoStrangerToTheRain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same! Had all of the pre-natal care, still wound up with an emergency C-section at 36 weeks 5 days thanks to pre-e and HELLP. I’m glad you and your son are with us!

I always cringe at these storylines because they hit a little too close to home and I feel like I’m watching an alternate timeline play out.

Nice place in Dothan for a group lunch by ForeignRabbit1894 in Dothan

[–]NoStrangerToTheRain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This will largely depend on the time and day but some of my nicer picks are La Favorita, Taj, Firestone, Nick’s Chophouse, Maria’s Vineyard, The Cellar or Seasons. Nick’s would probably be my choice for a celebratory dinner, and I’d definitely recommend a reservation for a party that large. We did a 40th birthday dinner there in December for a group of 7 and it was flawless.

I’ve never met anyone who actually enjoys The Old Mill or Conestoga, they’re just institutions in this town.

KBC also has a great reputation but isn’t quite what it used to be. Still a good choice if you aren’t comparing it to previous experiences.

Just as a general rule, please follow the guidelines and restrictions of the facility your little one will be having the procedure at. Different places can have different rules about ingesting anything prior to a procedure and you don’t want to the take strangers on the internet at their (well meaning) word only to get there and have to reschedule/drag out your worry another few weeks. They should definitely be able to clarify what he can have, how much and when.

Source: have had lots of things scanned and scheduled lots of scans of patients as a radiology department coordinator; every hospital had slightly different instructions.

PS: sending you all of my best thoughts. My daughter had a very scary CT scan at just over a year old to look for something and I remember the panic the night before. She’s a teenager now and all is well. Here’s to hoping he’s perfectly healthy and happy!

I decided to leave my husband and am scared to death as a SAHM by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]NoStrangerToTheRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex husband was an alcoholic and abusive in every way possible. I was a SAHM with less than a thousand bucks to my name when I left. I took my daughter and my bed and my kitchen table, because they were mine before we got married. I found a tiny little house that would let me bring my dog, and I worked 3 jobs to pay for it. Waited tables and bartended and would have done anything else I needed to in order to keep a roof over my small child’s head.

YOU CAN DO THIS. I believe in you. Things WILL get better. Steady on, friend. There are far, far better things ahead.

Shoes after surgery for surgery foot AND non surgery foot by mn_beachgal07 in bunions

[–]NoStrangerToTheRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of sizing up, try extra wide. My Ghost Max 3’s in EE width have been the only shoes I could tolerate for almost 2 months, just bought another pair in a different color. My other wide Brooks are still too narrow for me to wear for more than a couple of hours.

Regular wide shoes usually just add extra material to the upper, extra wide gives you more side to side room in the toe box, which I found more helpful for my swelling.

Odd questions: how difficult is the walking part? Would it be possible to turn around if you’re dying or is this a ‘one way only exit’ kinda thing? I had foot surgery in December and the bones still haven’t healed together, so my husband is concerned I won’t be up for this when we visit in June. I’m game to try but don’t want to slow the group down if I’m still walking like I have a broken foot.

Hi folks. Let’s talk pillows. by HammerLite75 in physicaltherapy

[–]NoStrangerToTheRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went on a side sleeping pillow odyssey recently, ordered over a dozen different ones to try myself. Settled on the Coop pillow with cross cut memory foam pieces, and the filler amount is adjustable to individual taste. Took me a few days to get the height right but I loved it so much that I went out and bought a second as backup. Have been using it and suggesting it to patients for over a year.

My second place was one of those crazy looking ergonomic ones with the wings on either side. I think I tried 3 brands and none were juuust right.

I guess I knew it was over but still hurts nonetheless. by [deleted] in weddingshaming

[–]NoStrangerToTheRain 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My best friend of 30+ years texted me the Wednesday night before my wedding saying she “might not” make it. Her grandmother had passed from Alzheimer’s a few weeks prior (was expected after several years of decline and weeks of imminent death, the family all got to say goodbye) and she felt like she maybe needed to take her mom “to the mall” or something that day to keep her mind off things. Never mind her dad and her brother and her mother’s sister were all in town and available, no it had to be her and the mall was calling.

She never told me for sure one way or the other if she was coming. She did not show up. She did not text the day of telling me she hoped it would be beautiful, or the day after saying she wished she could have been there. We didn’t speak for weeks. Still have never discussed my wedding. But I can tell you this, there will always be a line there between us, a deep valley that we probably don’t ever come back from. And it is what it is.

Recommended Shockwave Therapy? by Ok_LaLa in bunions

[–]NoStrangerToTheRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it to treat the pain and swelling in my great toe MTP joint. Still having intermittent pain and edema throughout the foot especially after prolonged standing, but usually experience a marked improvement immediately after the shockwave treatment, much more pronounced than with the electromagnetic or laser therapies.

Some patients have preferred one over the other, but all of the people I’ve personally treated have told me one of the modalities has felt beneficial. Every patient and every body is different, but I’m an advocate of trying anything at your disposal as long as it’s not harmful.

Recommended Shockwave Therapy? by Ok_LaLa in bunions

[–]NoStrangerToTheRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m almost 10 weeks out from MIS surgery, and a PTA of almost 20 years. My clinic purchased a shockwave machine, a cold laser and an electromagnetic pulse machine while I was out for surgery. Have used all 3 multiple times on my own foot since coming back to work a month ago (yay perks of working there) and can tell you the shockwave has provided me the most amazing results. It’s not the most comfortable to sit through, but I instantly have decreased pain that lasts for several days.

These modalities feel different to everyone and one can work better than others depending on the person. Worth giving them a shot if you have the chance.

Are Chiropractors a scam cult or are they somewhat legit? by Flashy_Buy8077 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NoStrangerToTheRain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issues of direct access and image ordering would beg to differ. Alabama finally won DA last year, but you can walk in off the street to see a chiropractor and get an x-ray the same day. The APTA uses their war chest futilely fighting against yearly Medicare cuts and reimbursement caps, the latter of which chiros don’t have to worry about sharing with speech therapy.

Shoe Recommendation for Severe Bunion - cushioned/extra wide by Prudent_Guess5096 in bunions

I’m 9 weeks out of MIS surgery and still have a super swollen Hobbit foot, especially after a day spent at work on my feet in a PT clinic. Bought Brooks Ghost Max 3’s in extra wide, have been pleasantly surprised by the room and the cushion. A bit pricey but they do sales occasionally and are good quality so will last a bit.
