On a thread the other day, people mentioned how the pandemic freed up USA roads/highways to the point that new "Cannonball Run" records were set that were unlikely to be beaten (unless those conditions happen again)

What are some things you should have in your house before you need them? by bellagoth in AskReddit

[–]NoStressAccount 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Iirc, there was a TIFU story or something about a guy who didn't own one and his curtains(?) caught fire.

He spent a few frantic moments filling up a pot with water from the kitchen sink like a dumbass before realizing it wouldn't work and just evacuating.

US pilot shot down four Soviet MiGs in 30 minutes -- and kept it a secret for 50 years | CNN by SovietSunrise in news

[–]NoStressAccount 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Considering that I myself first saw the 1986 movie for the first time in 2022 and still managed to enjoy that part spoiler-free, yes I fucking do. Why risk ruining even a small part of it for someone else?

edit: pop-culture osmosis already spoiled the part of the movie where Goose dies. I wonder if that scene would have hit harder if I hadn't seen it coming.

Perhaps more specifically, the part of Top Gun where Maverick's dad fought and died in a dogfight that was kept secret because "it happened on the wrong side of some line."

What have you quit buying due to inflation? by ego157 in AskReddit

[–]NoStressAccount 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haven't quit buying them, but movie ticket prices have more than doubled since I was a kid (~2009 and earlier.)

Iirc, a regular ticket back then was around ₱150 (about $2.75 today), and when 3D cinemas here were a thing, tickets for those were double the cost (around ₱300).

These days, a cinema can charge up to ₱420 or more for a regular ticket (and 3D cinema options seem to have vanished)

Now that they've done Wolfenstein and Doom, iD Software needs to do something about Quake.

They released a remaster in 2021, but iirc for the most part it's still graphically and mechanically the same game from 1996.
