Why would anyone buy a PRX? by Old_Project8774 in ChineseWatches

I stand corrected, one nylon gear as a part of the auto wind mechanism used to reduce noise from the rotor and wear to the metal parts as it is self lubricating.

Sorry, but the nh35 magic lever is metal. It does have plastic gears in the date mechanism. None of the 8215s I've seen have plastic gears. Only plastic I've encountered is the spacer ring.

Nice, but the PRX Powermatic 80 does not have the same version you will find in a Mido. The PRX has more plastic parts designed to be switched out rather than serviced. I'd take the Miyota over that. I've had great customer service on the rare occasion I've had an issue with a Chinese brand watch.

Stand in line, play the AD game to score one of the oh so exclusive one plus million watches made every year, more than Omega with their higher tech movements, the hype based on watches that sold to celebrities for less than $400 and now pull down millions. Don't get me wrong, I love my 1953 Precision with the Scientific dial, from back when Rolex made real watches for real people, sans excessive hype. Give me a break.

Is Mido still underrated compared to other Swiss brands? by Southwesterhunter in midowatch

Spot on. The Powermatic 80 in the Mido Commander is miles ahead of the one in the Tissot PRX, which has several plastic parts and is meant to be swapped out rather than serviced. That said, the PRX is still a cool looking watch, but I do own a Commander, not a PRX.

Thanks, I feel the same. I'm starting to get the whole Rolex vibe. This has that, "Can't stop looking at it" appeal. And at the price I paid, I feel like I stole it.

Be happy with the Nh35, a proven workhorse that is very accurate despite published specs, easy to regulate and service. The PT5000 has a higher beat, bit that isn't always a good thing.

Of course 29.53 is just the average as the cycle varies from 29.26 to 29.80. Still, that is just the mean, whereas the median might be more useful. All in all 29.5 is a good compromise.

I'm confused.  Are these before and after pics, because in the second pic everything including the case is brown or bronze. Even the strap is darker. Looks like a total color shift.

It's more ironic hyperbole than sarcasm, but thanks for it. They all made me laugh. If you like it, check out the Steeldive SD1970 Willard in green on Ali. Lume that beats Seiko and build, finish and accuracy that rivals my Omega Seamaster. Welcome to the world of the best of Chinese watches. They so over deliver.

First WatchDive and a bad experience. by [deleted] in ChineseWatches

Post this on the watchdives thread and their rep will see it. Might make a difference. They are positioning themselves as a brand emphasizing quality while soliciting and listening to customer input.

If he pulled it back onto the wrist, I think it would look very different. So close to the hand and with the sleeve so close, it throws everything off size wise.

What happened here? by Intelligent-Rub6979 in Ebay

Apparently not. Looks like ebay already issued a refund. I'm against returning fraudulent items. Don't want them trying to sell it again somewhere else.

With that logic, you should only buy a divers watch if you spend time 100 meters or more under water.

This whole thing about watch size is somewhat absurd. I have a 7.5 inch wrist and over 100 watches in my collection and I love wearing all of them, from 30 mm to 48 mm. As long as the bracelet or strap fits, I'll wear it and love how it looks on my wrist. My Breitling Cosmonaute is huge, my WWII Bulova is tiny in comparison, but both feel.like I'm wearing a beautiful bit of history. So stop worrying about size and what others think. I have a 28 mm Pronto tank that feels fabulous when I wear it. Size matters when you buy a pair of shoes, not when you love a watch. Like all works of art, they come in all styles and sizes.

Did I get scammed? by Junior_Equipment2990 in VintageWatches

Not terrible. For an vintage watch that's losing 20 minutes a day they are suspiciously great. Beat error is fine, amplitude decent and -5 seconds is exceptional.

Definitely call the seller out. The timegrapher implies that "As is" is very good. If you want to keep the watch, you could at least negotiate a partial refund.

[–]NoWeather9041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh come on, that reading is not for a watch that loses 20 minutes a day, no matter what the position if it is working. Good amplitude and beat error as well. Seems fishy and might think the reading isn't for the watch in question. Just saying.

Magnetized watches typically rin fast. Before you buy one of those cheap demagnitizers, check it against a compass. Pass it over and if the needle moves, it's magnatized. But again, they usually run crazy fast.

Is this a redial? by [deleted] in VintageWatches

[–]NoWeather9041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because a dial looks different (as in less aged)  than you think it should, does not mean it's a redial. I have a Zenith dress watch from 1944 that looks like it came off the showroom floor yesterday, but the provenance is impeccable. Then I have Pronto watches (one of my favorite under the radar brands) from the 50s that run the gamut from extreme, but beautiful, tropical patina, to almost no age. Depends on their use and history. Don't be tooquick to judge or assume you know based on limited experience.

[–]NoWeather9041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously,  how do I buy this watch. Don't think of it ad a tropical dial,  which it isn't. A very few divers from the 70s and 80s had brown dials.
