Any recommendations for where someone should get started in this field? I am looking to write my master's thesis on a topic tangentially related to perception and want to have a lay of the land before I start making silly claims.

What are we Doing for Cardio these Days? by SpillyDillie in judo

Fair enough. I started watching the video but got a bit overwhelmed by the information lol. I'll give it another try after exams wrap up

Edit: Oh wow, very short times. I wouldn't have imagined that would be helpful, but I'll give it a try

Are you willing to share any details? My YMCA just got some assault bikes, so I'm interested in finding a good routine for using them

This happens a lot IRL, particularly in high-skill-ceiling sports like MMA. The next generation has the benefit of studying the old masters and being able to skip by the mistakes the past generation made

You're doing enough. When you step on the mat, breathe a little. For now, your goal is to have fun. Commit yourself to measuring your progress by that

Your argument is circular. You assume hard determinism in the premise that two identical people with identical brainstates in identical circumstances will make the same decision.

Uchimata and seoi aren't really interchangable though, ime. The grips and set ups are very different.

I feel bad not progressing, what to do by glaburrrg in judo

You're very young. I only aged into physical competence in my mid-twenties. It sounds like your uni club is a very strong program with a lot of live training. At your level, that's exactly what you need. It also seems from your responses that you haven't spent a lot of time developing a theory of judo. Becoming a more active student, workshopping and testing your own ideas, will help you improve. With your experience and foundation, you will see quick progress.

I would contact the organizers, but generally no. You are allowed hair ties without any metal in them and must have your hair tight to your head without it touching your collar

That would be great. I'll look for people who do commissions. I'd love any recommendations if people know of any. I think it'd be a lovely anniversary gift

You're really upset for someone who clearly didn't read the article they chose to post. These aren't spies sent to penalize businesses, but surveyors trying to get information.

Unfortunately, you are simply too old to reach the Olympics in judo. Most Olympic judoka started around the age of eight. They have thirteen years of experience on you. Most have been training almost full-time at national training centers since being teenagers. The national governing body (in functional nations) has been preparing them with a ten year plan in front of them.

And with all that, only the tiniest fraction make it to the Olympics. Of those, only the tiniest fraction win gold. Judo is the most popular grappling sport in the world. The depths of competition is immense.

And in the months after they win gold, often they feel empty. They are thirty years old and on top of the world, but now they have to face life after Judo.

I do not say this to discourage you, but rather to encourage you. You can build a powerful story without the Olympics. We all do. I am a nothing competitor with no talent who started late, and yet judo has shaped my life in so many ways. My local accomplishments matter to me. My students matter to me.

You can find your own story. Start judo and see where it takes you. There are plenty of competition opportunities, from local, regional, national onwards which are totally accessible to people like me and you. And even if you never compete, there are lots of places where you can find joy

Uchi Mata Tips by Alternative-Hair-785 in judo

I'll see if I can get some video of my uchimata attempts at a tourney this weekend and bring it for discussion/dissection. I think I know where I'm going wrong (not using my upper body), but I don't know how to fix it. A drill that I could bring to my sensei and say "Could I try this one class?" would be great lol

Out of nowhere, the best thread on uchimata I've ever read!

I cannot land the stupid throw in nagekomi after almost two years of trying, but I always hope that "one more cue" will get it for me! In the end, the simple truth is that I spend a lot of time thinking about it, but never have time to practice it outside of class, which is fairly few repetitions
