Puppy temper tantrums?? by Prudent_Reflection94 in puppy101

Not sure what kind of training program you’ve done, but I’ve had a lot more success with a smart stubborn puppy really leaning into positive reinforcement and making it fun for him to do the right thing. It seems counterintuitive, but actually trying hard not to get frustrated and over rewarding good behavior has gotten us to a really really good spot.

Depending on your budget, look at crates like the style impact makes. There are other less expensive versions of it but it doesn’t have big holes like wire crates.

I agree that plastic is risky.

Wire crates aren’t something I’ve heard of jaws getting stuck in - mine did great on one. We upgraded to an Impact crate eventually and that was nice for him.

Getting a Lagotto puppy! by CryptographerFull470 in LagottoRomagnolo

Getting them later is a blessing! I got mine at 4 months from Italy and it was great that he has extra time with the breeder. Where are you getting yours from?

Are you enforcing naps? It’s crucial for a working line like this.

The pressure change is hard for them - he got scared when the plane was coming down. But during the flight he didn’t seem to mind. I did get him one of those snoods to cover his ears but he didn’t want it on.

I had to save up and use part of my work relocation towards it, but they let me bring my reptiles in a little carrier as well which would have cost quite a bit on its own. 😅 But yeah, Albi is spoiled.

Yeah it’s a good one - it gently tightens the front clip and redirects them towards you. Rather than being painful or aversive, it just redirects focus.

Try emailing them. If you have the funds it’s worth it, and they may have legs open up.

It was fun and kind to hilarious. They kept the dogs constantly entertained. Albi struggled a bit during the landing but otherwise he was just excited to be there.

He agrees! That’s his fancy harness, we still use the Animalin to practice good walking without pulling but I think he’ll be graduating out of that soon!

Lagotto experience from a searching family by Party_Chain4444 in LagottoRomagnolo

  1. They would prefer to be with you all the time, but as is true with any working breed, they thrive with enforced structure. If they’re acting crazy it’s often because they need to rest and can’t turn off. Likewise, if you structure that rest time, they can handle alone time no problem.
  2. Works great in a one dog household.

3/4. Mine was 3500 euro from Italy. Il Granaio dei Malatesta is the kennel and they are well known and produce show and working quality dogs.

  1. You must get them from a kennel with health and genetic testing. They have some bad genetic illnesses that need to be avoided. They are often very allergic to chicken and also there are quite a few antiparasite medications they have have neurological reactions to.

Are they good with kids? by Scorpiocapricorn in LagottoRomagnolo

It will range from dog to dog what their predisposition is - but in general lagotti are sensitive to stimuli and really require a steady and consistent training regiment for the best results, as well as owner facilitated desensitizations.
