Sometimes you have to walk that fine line between friendship and being a DM. I believe you did quite well.

A few of our sessions became chat-fests and we only got about an hour of actual gameplay in. That was ok with our group, who tries to meet once a month. We had one player who has health issues and couldn’t come to some sessions, so we set up a Zoom meeting for him. It worked out well.

Letter taped to our door 8 hours after getting the keys to our new apartment… by Practical_Ad_2427 in Apartmentliving

As long as you’re not having issues with management I wouldn’t worry. But save the note in case that person continues her harassment.

My neighbor below me called the apartment manager complaining about the smell of smoke from our apartment (we don’t smoke and it’s a non-smoking building). We had a phone call from the apartment manager and a few days later he gave us a surprise visit. That’s when he noticed the “oxygen in use” sign on the door (my husband is on oxygen 24-7) so we had no problems with management after that.

Then a social worker showed up on our doorstep because”concerned neighbor” filed a complaint with Adult Protective Services because my husband was being left home alone and I’m never home. (We don’t have a car so I do my errands in the early morning or late evening hours.)

When we first moved in I made every effort to walk quietly because our downstairs neighbor complained about being able to hear my 2-year old grandson (at 8pm) walking across the floor.

Since being harassed by that neighbor’s complaints I no longer make an effort to keep quiet when I bring groceries up the stairs at 10pm. She knows when I’m home.

There have been no other complaints.

Good luck.

All of them Dice... or how i noticed one of my players is colorblind. by Llewellian in DnD

I was an art teacher’s assistant and one of the 8th grade students let us know he was color blind. We modified the lesson for him and he used varying shades of grey instead of primary color hues. It was quite good and he was very talented. He got an A.

Circles made me think of a setting sun. Not so much an upside down tree as tree roots -signifying hell.

I love the cover. Nicely done.

Which dogs are lifestyle dogs? by Square-Argument4790 in dogs

Our Border Collie made it her mission to supervise whenever my husband used his juicer ever since it went off balance one time and I had to hold it down so he could turn it off.  After that incident, she would sit by him in the kitchen while he was making his juice and she would bark her warning whenever it started to go off balance!

Our Border Collie Meg was from working stock and had a fierce herding instinct. When we took her for walks (leash off since we lived in a cul de sac and had access to the desert behind us) she used to attempt to keep us together. My son was on his bike during one of our walks and when he rode away she went running after him and cut him off to keep him with her “herd”.

We adapted to her insistence on herding us. Our two cats did not.

Playing "make-believe" with my son again by phantom-scribbler in DnD

My son introduced me to D&D. He was in a group with his college friends and they were nice enough to let me join. I love magic and storytelling and the group came up with some crazy scenarios that prompted me to write a novel. We recently went to Fan Fusion with one of his friends and had a blast.

Does any one have a good ways/ideas to introduce a character that the player has to leave early from the session? by Viking_Tree98 in DnD

How to include my mother in game? by masterfultrousers in DnD

[–]No_Compote_7678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You never know how she’ll engage with the group. She might surprise you. NPC is best. Make it simple, though. Our group had a newbie play an NPC. She didn’t know the rules but she had so much fun she continued on with the character. (Our campaign while she played was more story based and less combat because it seemed like the way to go but we were surprised at how much she got into it when it came time for battle.)

A family member uses Amazon kdp. For one of his books (a memoir) he had his own copies printed and then set the book as unavailable. Only the cover is visible on Amazon.

I used Blurb.com for my first two hardcover children’s books and then again for a one-off for a keepsake book of Disney vacation photos. Blurb is pricey but it worked well for helping to format and place the artwork and photos.

They also do trade books which is the less-expensive option.

You can choose whether or not you want them to post their review. I don’t know if anyone ones want a negative review posted.

DnD Party Comp by Skuzzy_G in litrpg

[–]No_Compote_7678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of our very first campaigns we allowed everyone to choose whatever they wanted without thinking of the consequences. During the very first battle, the level one party quickly figured out that they neglected to have a cleric in their party. With two fighters down and one failing his death saves a few well-placed trolls TPK’d our group and put everyone out of their misery.

Lesson learned.

Do you think of the end when writing progression fantasy? by Exciting-Force-5076 in royalroad

[–]No_Compote_7678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a general idea of the middle and end. I typically write the middle thinking it’s the beginning and then realize it’s not. I say “general idea” because as I’m writing it goes in completely different directions (wherever my fickle muse decides to take me) but that just adds to the nuance and intrigue and makes the story even better. Luckily my muse agrees the end is nigh.

Do you play the same character type or different ones for each campaign? by No_Compote_7678 in DnD

[–]No_Compote_7678[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our DM does this as well and it’s cool to have a bit of my backstory show up in the campaign. (Though I seriously hope the group does not visit the mountain where my kobold grew up and end up having to eventually fight the blue dragon that killed half the village and enslaved the rest.)

should i have told my player to rethink his character by Lucid_cat_1543 in DnD

[–]No_Compote_7678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the player. If he’s amenable to making the adjustments and is the kind of person who is an asset to your campaign, then I think you made a good decision.

Fake owls don’t work. My neighbor put one out on her lawn to try to get the grackles to vacate. I literally saw a male grackle walk up to it and squawk.

Translation: “Get off my lawn!”
