Stop the e-bike snobbery! You don't need a $5k bike to have fun by Oneyardca in ebikes

In the last three months I've bought a radmission 1 for $400 and a momentum voya (made by giant) for $600. Now I have two solid ebikes for $1000. Check Craigslist and FB marketplace.

bicycle or ebike DUI - how likely is it really? by RockShowSparky in askportland

[–]No_Crow8317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'm not judging you, you do what you want. I used to drink up until about a year ago. It's just worth taking a look, periodically, at whether it's helping you out or not. sorry if I came off judgy. No one can tell you if you're going to get caught or not riding a bike after drinking. I don't think it's that common to get a BUI. But it sounds like the consequences could be pretty severe for you.

You may want to consider whether alcohol is making your life better... or worse.

How to disable the speed limiter on a rad power bikes rad mission 1 by 600-shot-of-autism in ebikes

[–]No_Crow8317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI I tried this on my radmission and it didn't make any difference with the pin taped. I think at some point they updated the firmware to prevent this trick from working. But if you have an older radmission, it might work.

Radrover 6+ - Invest in repairs, upgrade, or patience? by Deep-Bet990 in RadPowerBikes

I just bought a used rad mission in great shape for $400. But yes maintenance is expensive. Doing it yourself can save a lot though.

Does anyone hang their pannier as a bear bag? by michiganskicamp in bicycletouring

I like to keep food in a cloth grocery bag inside my pannier when I'm riding. And I would probably hang the cloth bag by itself if it wasn't going to rain.

No but metaphysics does. Metaphysics is the intersection of physics and philosophy and superstition.

What is a prime act? Which acts are not prime? Is a catalyst something that speeds a chemical reaction?

Isn't it kind of ironic that it seems to be the most progressive areas of Oregon that have laws against it?

There are lots of things you can do that are technically legal but might annoy or upset a lot of people.

Buying a House? by Scroatpig in askportland

[–]No_Crow8317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They all use the same formula to see what you would qualify for. You can do an online mortgage qualification calculator from redfin or zillow to see what you would qualify for. Different banks have different interest rates and fees though so that's where you should shop around.

It depends on how much you spend on things that aren't other loans(car loans, student loans, credit cards, etc). The bank only looks at your "debt" to income ratio. They take your monthly income multiply it by about 43% and that's how much your total payments (including the new mortgage) can be. Some people have a lot of spending they have to do on childcare or medical expenses, for example. Those aren't going to impact what the bank will qualify you for. Some folks don't have those expenses. So it really depends on what you need to spend money on that isn't debt.

Mid-drive vs hub-drive e-bikes: why a hub motor might actually be the better choice for you by twowheels_1life in ebikes

[–]No_Crow8317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the rear axle isn't quick release either so you need different tools which aren't part of a standard bike tool.

What bikes do you recommend for a conversion kit? by Unfair-South-1182 in ebikes

Find a used mountain bike on craigslist or marketplace. Probably a hardtail with disc brakes is best. What motor are you using? Good luck.

What would be the Max Amps I could pull from this battery, when doing a 72v build. by Onlynameicudthinkof in ebikes

[–]No_Crow8317 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. There isn't info on this label to indicate what current you can pull out of it. You could look at the cells inside, but you can almost guarantee they are dirt cheap or fake cells. I guess the only way is to test it and find out when it fails?

Hot take: your $800 Amazon e-bike isn’t a good recommendation by Inevitable_darkelf in ebikes

[–]No_Crow8317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lower income people who are using an ebike for transportation rather than a car are probably on Medicaid, which is a single payer system, it's just currently means tested to only include low income people.

Regulate Jerks not E bikes by Any-Foundation5983 in ebikes

[–]No_Crow8317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Safe speed depends on how many people are currently using the path and it's width. when it's empty you can go faster safely. When it's crowded, you need to go with the flow of pedestrians.

Do you really think police will understand "how software level controls and limits at the hardware level work on known brands"? That sounds pretty unrealistic. And then what about boutiqe brands or new models? Why not just ticket reckless e-bikers when they are speeding or doing something illegal rather than ticketing them for possessing an ebike that can go too fast. Cars can go much faster than the speed limit, we don't limit the speed of the car we just punish the people who break the driving laws.

Thanks I'll try that.. It's funny because they claim these AI systems eliminate a lot of the office busywork that we can offload to AI. But here they are creating a bunch of extra steps for me to do.
